Two things to know about North Wales wild swimming spot named one of UK's best

North Wales Live9 hours ago
A list has been released of the UK's top 10 'picture perfect' wild swimming spots. The research took a dive into social media data to reveal the most picturesque swimming spots in the UK.
It comes as no surprise that Wales is featured quite heavily with three places in the top ten. The highest placed is Nant Sere on the side of Pen-y-Fan in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), which came in third.
When the comes to North Wales the highest rated spot according www.livefootballtickets.com - and fifth in the UK overall - was a stunning gorge that is a hit on social media apps like Instagram and TikTok.
This is Fairy Glen (Ffos Anoddun) in Betws-y-Coed, in the Eryri National Park. It is wooded sheer gorge with incredible rock formations and tumbling cascades of water. The thewholeworldornothing.com travel blog described it as "dramatic and serene and sensationally atmospheric all at the same time".
They added: "Photographs just don't do it justice, the magic of the place has to be seen to be believed. And as you descend into the emerald green realm of the Fairy Glen Gorge, it truly feels like you're entering another dimension."
But there are a couple of things any potential visitors should know - as well as also being aware of the possible dangers of any wild swim trip.
The first thing is that this is not a free dip. Entrance to the Fairy Glen is £1 per adult and 50p per child - paid in an honesty box. Money is used to assist with the upkeep of the beauty spot and for most a very small price to pay for this wonderful slice of nature. There is a further charge if people want to park there. It is cash only so many do get caught out - prompting the occasional negative review on TripAdvisor.
The other thing to be aware of is that although it is an honesty box system those not paying can sometimes be caught out by the owners who can refuse entry. There have been some unkind reviews on the owners but most say they are "perfectly pleasant and helpful".
One recent Tripadvisor reviewer said: "Absolutely stunning place, so glad we decided to visit. I guess we were lucky as it was a beautiful day and really quiet too. Join the North Wales Live WhatsApp community group where you can get the latest stories delivered straight to your phone
"Important to note if you are reading this, it's £1 in cash per adult to enter which is paid into an honesty box at the point of entry and £2 cash for the car park. The owner came over as we arrived and was a lovely lady and very friendly."
Another added: "The glen is beautiful and thanks to some rain earlier the river was fast flowing over the rocks. At the end are a series of steep steps down to the water which can be slippery. Definitely worth a visit."
But you can't please everyone and not all reviews were as glowing. One person said: "There was nothing fairy, enchanting or whatever about that glen. Two stones with some water rushing between them — you can see that set up anywhere in Snowdonia for free."
The other body of water in North Wales on the top ten list was Llyn Padarn at Llanberis. This is one of the most popular places to swim and do watersports in the whole of Wales.
There is also no surprise it meets the criteria for 'picture perfect' with Yr Wyddfa in the distance as well as multiple other Eryri peaks. The lake is designated as a 'Bathing Water', meaning its quality is monitored, and it's easily accessible from the centre of Llanberis.
While there is no charge for going on Llyn Padarn anyone coming by car will likely have to pay to park.

UK's 'best beach' with crystal clear water and white sands compared to Ibiza

A beach in the UK has been compared to the stunning shores of Majorca and Ibiza, thanks to its breathtaking scenery. One visitor recently described her trip to this much-loved destination. A woman exploring the UK in search of its most scenic locations recently highlighted a stunning Cornish beach. Cornwall, with its array of beautiful shores and natural landscapes, draws tourists from all over Britain and beyond. Cornwall is a beloved holiday spot in the UK, famed for its coastline, idyllic beaches, vibrant surfing scene, and attractions like the Eden Project and Tintagel Castle. British holidaymakers flock to the county for seaside escapades with their partners, families, or friends during the summer months, and Cornwall never disappoints. Lizzy Parkin, a travel blogger based in the Cotswolds, took to TikTok to share her latest coastal discovery in Cornwall. ‌ She began by saying: "I'm on a mission to find places across the UK that make people say 'I can't believe this is the UK' because as Brits, me included, we love to be negative about our own home but I'm trying to change that by sharing places that are undeniably beautiful and we're starting strong with a spot near Penzance in Cornwall." ‌ Lizzy enthused: "This gem of a beach looks straight out of Majorca or Ibiza if you ask me, though the water is a little colder." She also mentioned that it's "located on the most beautiful coastal path" but cautioned that the walk down isn't the easiest, involving a "short scramble" to reach the beach, so she advised potential visitors to tread carefully when heading to this location. The travel fan called the scenery on the way down to the beach 'absolutely unreal' and revealed that it is Pedn Vounder Beach, found near the village of Treen in Cornwall. Nestled among the cliffs of Treryn Dinas, Pedn Vounder boasts crystal clear turquoise waters and white sands. Cornwall Beaches recognises it as West Cornwall's most famous spot for naturism, but Lizzy noted in her TikTok post's comments that the beach was mostly full of visitors wearing swimsuits and a sign indicates it's not entirely a nudist beach. ‌ Cornwall Beaches explains that Pedn Vounder lies at the eastern end of Porthcurno cove, with the renowned Logan Rock perched atop the headland to the east, a massive granite boulder delicately balanced on the cliff tops of Treen. Lizzy's TikTok footage showcasing the breathtaking beauty of Pedn Vounder Beach has racked up 412,000 views, 45,000 likes, and over 200 comments so far. One user raved: "Pedn Vounder is the best beach in the UK. Took my breath away when I first saw it recently. As good as any beach anywhere in the world!" A third was astounded: "I can't believe this is the UK!!! Wow." And a fourth echoed: "Okay but I can't believe this is the UK."

Shoppers spot chocolate bar that's a Kinder Bueno dupe but it has a HUGE twist

SHOPPERS have spotted a new chocolate bar in B&M that's a Kinder Bueno dupe - but there's a big twist. The discount retailer has started selling Nutymax bars which have come all the way from Turkey. At first glance they look similar to the popular Kinder Buenos, with two fingers of chocolate filled with crispy wafer and a cream filling. But rather than having a hazelnut filling, they contain pistachio - much like the viral Dubai chocolate bars. They are selling for 89p for a 44g bar, making them much cheaper than a Kinder Bueno. For comparison, B&M sells Kinder Buenos for £1.95. They're cheapest at £1.75 in Iceland, but this still makes them almost twice the price. The Nutymax is described online as having a "crispy wafer and abundant cream filling" and "pistachio puree overflowing from the wafer and the whole pistachios inside". Popular Instagrammer John's Snack Reviews shared his thoughts on the bar, giving it a solid 7.5 out of 10. "The pistachio cream is really decent. Strong nutty cream that tastes like supermarket pistachio spread," he said. "However, the thickness of the milk chocolate coating overpowers it so it's a touch difficult to taste the pistachio until the end." Commenters shared their excitement to try the new sweet treat, with one saying: "This sounds like a DREAM!" Dubai Ice Cream Another wrote "Ooooohhhh yum" while a third said they "need it". But a different commenter said they had tried the bar in Turkey and it was "disappointing". Shoppers seem to be divided as reviewers on which also sells the bar, say they are "the BEST chocolates". One person said: "LOVE them so much, great presentation, great packing and flavor perfect, LOVE them so so so much!!" Another said: "Delicious, never had these before and can't get them here. Will be ordering more in time." What other Kinder Bueno varieties are there? Of course, this is a dupe rather than a new Kinder Bueno version. But you can get a couple of Kinder Bueno varieties. The original version comes with milk chocolate, but there is also a popular white chocolate one. These cost 75p in Asda or £1 in Sainsbury's, Tesco and Morrisons. At Christmas you can also get Kinder Bueno Eggs in an 80g pack. You can also get Kinder Bueno ice creams, which are £4.94 for a pack of four at Asda. They're one penny more expensive at Morrisons, Iceland and Tesco. How to save money on chocolate We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar. Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs... Go own brand - if you're not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you'll save by going for the supermarket's own brand bars. Shop around - if you've spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it's cheaper elsewhere. Websites like let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you're getting the best deal. Look out for yellow stickers - supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they've been reduced. They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged. Buy bigger bars - most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar. So if you've got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

ITV This Morning expert issues summer passport warning

Failing to carry out one check before flying could scupper your holiday plans. An expert has warned Brits planning a holiday abroad to do one thing or risk having their summer plans ruined. Consumer journalist Alice Beer urged travellers to check their passport in advance. This includes checking it for any potential damage as well as its expiry date. This needs to be done as soon as possible to allow time for a replacement travel document to arrive. ‌ Speaking on ITV's This Morning, Alice explained: 'If you're planning on making the most of the school holidays and getting out of here, the minute your kids break up, you have got to do one thing and check your passport. Not just your passport, all the family's passports and you're checking for some really key things.' ‌ If your passport is damaged you could get turned away at the airport. HM Passport Office will consider your passport damaged if: You cannot read any of your details Any of the pages are ripped, cut or missing There are holes, cuts or rips in the cover The cover is coming away There are stains on the pages (for example, ink or water damage) Alice continued: 'One, check they're not damaged. I saw someone on Instagram whose airline had stuck the luggage tag on the photo page of their passport, when they came to peel it off it damaged it. 'And she didn't know, is this good to fly, is this not? So she spent a week, she got the fast turnaround passport. Cost her a couple of hundred quid, just in case.' On top of potential passport damage you need to be looking at its expiration date. Alice said: 'So, you're looking for how many months have I got to run, how many months do I need on my passport to go where I'm going, you'll find that on the Government website.' ‌ Some countries require that your passport has at least another three or six months left on it by the end of your holiday. Before flying you should therefore check the individual requirements of each country. However, some countries, including in the EU, don't accept a passport that is more than 10 years old. 'Is my passport, more than 10 years old?' Alice said. 'This keeps coming up, time and time again. If you renewed your passport, and you've got a carry over of extra months, you might find your passport is currently more than 10 years old. ‌ 'That will not get you entry into some countries and you'll simply turned down at the gate. So check your passports, check everyone's passports for damage and for validity.' A standard passport renewal takes around three weeks. You can apply either online or via the post. ‌ Online passport application To apply online, visit Key requirements include a digital photograph, a valid payment method (credit or debit card), and the old passport for renewal applications. Additionally, applicants must provide proof of identity and citizenship. The application fee for adults stands at £94.50, while children's passports cost £61.50. For those requiring assistance with the online application, local Post Office branches are available to offer support. Their staff are equipped to: ‌ Capture your digital photo Assist with completing the application online However, be aware that this service incurs an additional charge. For postal applications You can get a paper passport application from a nearby Post Office to apply by post. Keep in mind, applying via post generally takes more time than submitting an application online. ‌ You are required to dispatch a fully completed application form along with your supporting documents, two photographs, and the necessary fee. Post Office team members can assist in ensuring your form is accurately filled out - though you must supply your own photos. Note that this service will cost you extra. Payments can be made with cash, or through debit or credit card transactions.
