'World's cheapest pint' in Benidorm costs less than a bunch of bananas

Daily Mirror19 hours ago
A Brit abroad in Benidorm has claimed to have found the 'world's cheapest pint' in the party city, and people will be thrilled to know it's cheaper than a bunch of bananas
If you're looking to sip on the 'world's cheapest pint,' then you may be looking to book a flight to Benidorm this summer. Benidorm is party central, with stag dos and hen dos aplenty, many on their first lads' holidays, and bargain-hunting Brits looking to bag a pint for less than £7.

And, it turns out you can get a pint for less than a bunch of bananas in Benidorm, which retail for around 90p, and people are thrilled at the news. Harry, who posts on TikTok as @harrytokky, shared that at the 4JAKS, you can pay just 43p for an ice-cold, delicious pint of beer.

"Blimey! What can you get for 43p this day and age?" Harry asked the owner of the pub when he revealed the price of the beer.

There were terms and conditions to the cheap beer, however, as you can only get them four nights of the week - but considering there are only three days you can't get a ridiculously cheap pint, it's worth a try.
He shared that the pint you get is "Estrella Damm," saying it's not even the "cheap" one, it's the "good" one.

The owner then continued saying: "The reason it's so cheap is that we've done a deal with them for the promotions," so rest assured, your pint will be of the highest quality.
He shared that it's "usually between six and 10 o'clock," or "four to eight at night," depending on the day, but if he's on the premises, you can get your 50 cent pint.
In the comments, people said that they were going to Benidorm soon, admitting: "I can't wait," because they were going to try and bag themselves a cheap beer.

"I'm in Benidorm next Tuesday, I'll definitely come down and call in," one woman added.
While it's not been confirmed whether this is actually the "world's cheapest pint" as Harry claims, it's certainly a bargain for Brits looking to get boozy.
It's not the first helpful video Harry has shared about Benidorm either. He recently warned Brits going on holiday to be wary about which taxis they get into when they're there.

He said that "in Benidorm there's only one type of taxi that you should be getting into," and they are "white cars with a blue stripe down the middle".
Harry shared that they usually "have a light on the top of the roof," and it will be either green or red. "If they're red, the taxi is in use," whereas if the light is green, it's free to get in.
He said these taxis will "take you to your destination nice and safe," which is more than can be said for the "fake taxis" he speaks of.
Harry continued: "So guys, if you're coming out to Benidorm, they are the only taxis that you should be looking out for because you don't want to get into some random stranger's car" because they may not take you where you're going.
Remember to drink responsibly. The NHS recommends not drinking more than 14 units of alcohol per week on a regular basis. This is the equivalent of six pints of average-strength beer, or 10 small glasses of lower-strength wine.

EXCLUSIVE The Palace's meeting with Meghan's 'cheerleader' chief of communications who 'loves Wills and Kate' could mark the beginning of a period of reconciliation within the Royal Family, expert claims

In her now notorious response to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 's interview with Oprah the late Queen Elizabeth II said 'recollections may vary'. Now, in the aftermaths of last week's bombshell meeting between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's communications secretary and the King's aide recollections between the two camps are once again varied. On Monday, MailOnline revealed that Harry and Meghan denied leaking details of the rendezvous between Meghan's 'cheerleader' head of comms Meredith Maines and the King's communications secretary Tobyn Andreae in London on Wednesday July 9. Meghan and her current PR guru share some unlikely parallels within both their personal and professional lives. Both of them are working mothers from California who cut their teeth working within Hollywood's entertainment industry. Both are also lovers of horses with Maines having joined the Equestrian Team while studying at Stanford University and Meghan who has taken a keen interest in Polo in recent years. Interestingly, the PR guru is something of a royalist. In 2011 Maines took to X - formerly Twitter - on the day before Prince William and Kate Middleton 's wedding to declare that she planned to watch 'eight hours of Royal Wedding coverage'. After the wedding she also claimed to have 'over-indulged' in the event. It is not known whether it was Charles or Harry who arranged the 'peace talks' between Maines and Andreae but pictures of the two sides enjoying drinks raised hopes of a reconciliation. Both Harry, 40, and his father, 76, are said to be keen to reconcile, especially after the King was diagnosed with cancer last year. But, Harry and Meghan are said to have been frustrated that pictures of the extraordinary meeting were published in The Mail on Sunday and sources close to Prince Harry have insisted the Sussexes were not responsible for passing details of the meeting on to the newspaper. While who approached whom has not been confirmed, The Times reported that Maines did not have instructions from the Sussexes to meet with representatives from Prince William but Buckingham Palace was contacted. From what details are available, it is clear that Harry and Meghan might be trying to heal rifts with the Royal Family that have existed since the couple stepped down as working royals in 2020. Speaking to MailOnline, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said: 'Harry and Meghan reportedly initiated this meeting, as it is clear that any contact with the Royal Family which could have positive connotations is pivotal to them as they have nothing else to offer. They want to be associated with 'reconciliation', yet previously have been so destructive. Nevertheless Fitzwilliams pointed out that the leaked meeting was still 'extremely controversial.' He added: 'The motives of both parties, who knew, who leaked it and whether Prince William was aware of it as he obviously should have been, are currently matters which are hotly debated.' Harry and Meghan's pivot back towards the royals became clear earlier this year when the Duke and Duchess dramatically revamped the structure of their staff to make it more like the hierarchical system more closely associated with Buckingham Palace - and one which Harry is more accustom to. This included the hiring of Maines, a seasoned communications strategist whose role has already drawn comparisons with Sir Clive Alderton, the formidable Private Secretary to King Charles and Queen Camilla, was placed at the helm of a team of 11, operating out of Montecito, California, and the UK. She has also taken on the title of 'head of household' which is more traditionally associated with the Palace. Speaking about Maines, Fitzwilliams said: 'Meredith Maines joined the Sussexes earlier this year. She is the most senior aide in the arrangement nicknamed 'the Sussex Royal Household', formed in June, which was reportedly intended to resemble the structure Harry used to work with when he was a senior working royal.' Harry and Meghan hired Maines in February ahead of the launch of her Netflix series - With Love, Meghan - and her lifestyle brand As Ever. Before she worked for the Sussexes, Maines was previously head of communications for the streaming giant Hulu and she worked for Google before that. Her time working with Harry and Meghan got off to a somewhat bumpy start following Harry's interview with the BBC and the launch of Meghan's latest businesses ventures. Fitzwilliams told MailOnline: 'It has been claimed that Maines was the chief architect of Harry's recent BBC interview after he lost his case over security. It was reportedly going to be relatively short, instead it went on for over half an hour. 'He came across as angry, fearful as he saw plots against him and his family, especially from courtiers and he was contradictory about his father's role in denying him and his family automatic police security.' He added: 'It has been claimed that after she joined Team Sussex in February, she was behind the unveiling of Meghan's much panned cookery programme With Love, Meghan, the second series of which is yet to be released, and her attempt to be an influencer, As Ever, her lifestyle brand, which is of the utmost significance as Netflix are partners and the Sussexes need their contract with the streaming giant to be renewed.' The bad publicity from these ventures coupled with several damaging blows to their popularity in a poll rating in part underpins why Harry and Meghan are said to be keen to rehabilitate their reputations. Attempts to heal rifts with both the Royal Family and the British public could not come at a better time for Harry with the 2027 Invictus Games set to take place in Birmingham. The Daily Telegraph reported last week that the Royal Family would be 'very much welcome' at the event and that Prince Harry is expected to invite King Charles III and other family members to the games. With this in mind, last week's meeting could be the start of a period of reconciliation between both camps after five years of bitterness between the Palace and the Sussexes.

Iceland volcano Sundhnúkur erupts as families and tourists evacuated

The Police Commissioner has increased the Civil Potection alert level to its highest. Families and tourists have been evacuated from towns - and a luxury hotel - as a volcano has erupted in Iceland again this morning. ‌ Magma poured out of the Sundhnúkur volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula, near the fishing town of Grindavík,. The Icelandic Meteorological Office says the eruption - the volcano's ninth since December 2023 - happened in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, July 16, after the mass evacuation. ‌ The National Police Commissioner has decided, in consultation with the Police Commissioner in Suðurnes, to raise the Civil Protection alert level to the highest level as the likelihood of an eruption at the Sundhnúk crater has increased, reports the Mirror. ‌ This was revealed in a statement from the Communications Director of Civil Protection. The earthquake cluster is located between Stóra-Skógfell and Sýlingarfell, and is in a similar area to the beginning of magma flows in previous events, like April this year. The Blue Lagoon Iceland - a five-star hotel resort popular with Brit holidymakers - and a local campsite were evacuated, as was most of the town of Grindavík. Local media reports cops are driving around town, to check on local residents and encourage them to leave their homes in case of an eruption. But when the same volcano erupted in April, some stubborn residents refused to leave their homes. Authorities pleaded with them to do so for their own safety. Gas pollution is spreading from the eruption sites to the northwest towards Vogar and Reykjanesbraut, where locals are asked to close windows and regularly monitor the air quality on the Icelandic Meteorological Office website. Pollution forecasts can also be viewed on the site. Experts say the fissure is between 700 and 1000 metres wide and does not appear to be getting longer as the lava flow appears to be most concentrated to the southeast. ‌ Benedikt Ófeigsson, a geophysicist and head of deformation measurements at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, has moved to reassure communities - but said things could change quickly. He said: "This is not a major event at the moment. It's a small volume and we're not seeing any signs that the tremors are getting shallower, as things stand now. ‌ "There is always some seismic activity, but nothing extreme, it hasn't been particularly increasing." Ms Sigurðardóttir, the natural hazard expert at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, says the location of the eruption is favorable as the eruption will not threaten any infrastructure and is far away from Grindavík town. There is only a possibility that lava flows from the eruption could damage the Grindavík road near Stora-Skógfell, but only if the eruption lasts a long time.

Canadian visits Greggs in 'UK's fattest town' and is floored by one shelf

Canadian health influencer Will Tennyson spent 24 hours in a town brutally dubbed the "UK's fattest" due to its astonishing number of fast food shops A Canadian health influencer was left stunned when he visited a Greggs for the first time, in a town dubbed the "fattest" in the UK. ‌ Ebbw Vale in Wales, garnered the unflattering title back in 2023 after it was found 73% of restaurants were fast food outlets – with many delivering to the same addresses three times a day. ‌ Will Tennyson spent 24 hours in the area to find what it was really like. But before speaking to residents about crippling economic struggles, he started like many hungry Brits do, with a trip to the local Greggs. And what he uncovered in the beloved bakery chain stunned him. ‌ The YouTube star, who has almost four million subscribers, asked the chatty woman behind the till what Greggs was most known for. Unsurprisingly the response was the iconic sausage roll. Minutes later, after getting his coffee, sausage roll, salted caramel donut and lemon meringue muffin, Will sat at a nearby table. The Toronto-born lad said: 'They are the king of sausage rolls. That entire display is almost completely empty which is insane, it is only 9.30 in the morning. And it is only £1.30… insane.' ‌ But after taking his first bite, he soon realised why the delicious pastries were flying off the shelf. 'That is an exquisite sausage roll,' he told the camera. 'I'm going to be smiling a lot today. This would be the breakfast of my dreams when I was eight-years-old. 'Now I strive to have a breakfast where I can see the nutritional value but this is awesome. Like you really can't go wrong with this, just pastry, meat, you can just see a shining of grease and butter and fat.' However, he did warn that the delicious sausage roll have 24 grams of fats and just nine grams of protein. He continued: "Wow, that is good texture on this thing. A lot of people get this for breakfast here, it is a lot of calories, no protein, it is all fat, all carbs, so it is going to be a lot of calories but it is not going to keep you that full.' ‌ He added: 'Everything at Greggs is so reasonably priced it is easy to end up leaving with so many things you didn't expect to get, like this pack of four sausage rolls which I'm heavily considering.' Later in his video, he said the cost-of-living crisis and a lack of employment opportunities was impacting the health choices of locals. ‌ To make the point, he explained how a packet containing six eggs in the only green grocer in town cost £3.50 – compared to a breakfast roll and coffee in Greggs costing just £2.95. Will said it was 'hard to argue with the convenience' and that he may have struggled to have lost the weight he did in his younger years had he been based in Ebbw Vale. He said the vast number of incredibly cheap fast food options available was 'super scary' to think about and he claimed locals, who spoke to him about their struggles, were 'literally set up for failure' because of the lack of affordable healthy meals. The content creator added: '24 hours in the UK's most obese town was eye-opening. People here are kind of trapped. 'They have limited choices to be healthy and breaking the norm is extremely difficult and when financial troubles are in the mix, it isn't about health, it is purely about survival and putting food on the table.'
