
KUNA Acting Director visits Huawei, urges digital tech for media advancement
SHENZHEN, China: Acting Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Mohammad Al-Mannai, visited Sunday the headquarters of Chinese tech giant Huawei in Shenzhen during his official trip to China.
The visit aligns with KUNA's efforts to integrate digital solutions and adopt new technologies to enhance media content production.
During the visit, Al-Mannai met with Huawei's Deputy CEO for the Northern Gulf Dai Xing, to explore cooperation in digital infrastructure, media tools, and training programs aimed at enhancing KUNA's editorial and technical team capabilities.

Al-Mannai emphasized the importance of collaborating with leading tech companies like Huawei to boost media capabilities through digital innovation, highlighting the urgent need to adopt advanced digital technologies that are transforming data analysis and audience engagement.
Al-Mannai and his delegation toured Huawei's exhibitions, and Research, and Development (R&D) Center, where they were introduced to the latest innovations in automation and digital media solutions.
The visit was held on the sidelines of KUNA's participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Media and Think Tank Forum, held in Zhengzhou, China. The delegation includes Acting Editor-in-Chief Mohammad Al-Bahar and Director of Marketing and Public Relations Lamia Al-Farsi.— KUNA

Gifted students office One of the key initiatives is the creation of a dedicated office for gifted students, which the minister described as 'a platform to discover and develop student potential and provide a learning environment that fosters creativity.' The new office is part of the broader education development track, which also includes integrating AI and cybersecurity into Grade 10 computer science classes and updating teaching approaches to meet future learning needs. Earlier this week, the ministry confirmed it has completed 88 textbooks for the upcoming curriculum: 2 for kindergarten, 46 for primary, and 40 for secondary levels. The books are now undergoing final language and design checks ahead of printing. To reduce the burden on students, textbooks will be divided into four smaller parts spread across the academic year, starting in 2025–2026. The curriculum also includes 21st-century skills like critical thinking, self-learning, and problem-solving, with inclusive content tailored for different student needs. Training programs to prepare teachers for the new curriculum will begin ahead of the next academic year and will be offered both in person and online. The minister stressed that the education reform plan is progressing on schedule, 'with a commitment to applying best administrative practices to ensure a quality shift in public education in the State of Kuwait.' KUWAIT: Officials from the Public Authority for Youth and Kuwait Space Company sign a memorandum of understanding to establish a youth academy for AI, space sciences, robotics, and cybersecurity. — KUNA KUWAIT: Kuwait is set to launch a national youth academy focused on training young Kuwaitis in artificial intelligence, space sciences, robotics, and cybersecurity, the Public Authority for Youth announced Thursday. The initiative follows a new memorandum of understanding between the Authority and the Kuwait Space Company to establish the academy, which will serve as a hub for empowering youth with cutting-edge skills. 'The Authority places young people at the forefront of its priorities, as they are the future of Kuwait,' said Acting Director Nasser Al-Sheikh during a press briefing following the signing. He emphasized that the new academy will help develop and support youth capabilities through 'innovative projects that reinforce their role in building the nation and developing society.' Described as a 'modern national platform,' the academy will offer specialized training and hands-on programs that contribute to Kuwait's economic and knowledge-based participation goals. Kuwait opens shrimp fishing season in economic zone
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 2: The Director General of the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources, Eng. Salem Al-Hai announced that the shrimp fishing season has officially begun on Aug 1, Friday, within Kuwait's economic zone — provided that an official fishing permit has been obtained. In a statement issued by the Authority, Al-Hai explained that the decision aims to support the sustainability of fish stocks and ensure the availability of shrimp in the local market following the end of the seasonal fishing ban. He urged all fishermen and stakeholders to strictly follow the relevant laws and regulations to protect the country's marine resources. Al-Hai also noted that shrimp fishing in Kuwait's territorial waters will be permitted starting September 1st, but only by trawling with eco-friendly 'Kofa' nets — a method designed to minimize environmental impact.
