Dulquer Salmaan's Fans Are Now Celebrating His Exit From Thug Life, Here's Why
Dulquer Salmaan's fans are flooding social media platforms by praising his decision to reject Kamal Haasan starrer Thug Life.
Kamal Haasan's Thug Life has been bringing waves at the box office right from its opening day. Mani Ratnam's stylish direction alongside an ensemble cast featuring Haasan, Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Rohit Saraf and Baburaj in key roles, has been liked by many. Contrary to this, the film has also been garnering mixed-to-negative reviews from movie buffs and critics for its nearly disappointing script. But did you know Dulquer Salmaan was the initial choice for the gangster action drama, and he rejected it?
Dulquer Salmaan was the first choice for casting in the Tamil movie Thug Life, produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies and Red Giant Movies. However, he declined the offer due to reasons best known to the actor. Post the movie's trailer release, social media users criticised Salmaan's choice of opting out of Thug Life, only to realise months after that it was one of his 'greatest decisions'. Here's Why —
After Thug Life's disappointing reactions, social media users flooded the platforms, complimenting Salmaan for his decision to exit the project, highlighting his praise-worthy script selection skills.
One of his ardent fans wrote, 'After the trailer, everyone trolled him for his decision. Now after watching the movie, everyone is celebrating his decision."

'If Script Selection is an Art Dulquer Salmaan is Picasso on it .." read a comment lauding Salmaan for picking up great scripts while subtly pointing out his decision to exit from Thug Life.

Dulquer Salmaan was offered the role of Amar in the multi-starrer project – a part which then eventually passed on to Silambarasan, known for his performance in the 2010 Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, co-starring Trisha Krishnan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya. The Sita Ramam actor was officially cast in the film along with Ravi Mohan and Gautham Karthik.
As per reports, all three of them opted out of Thug Life in March last year apparently due to scheduling issues and production delays. But then, social media users believed that Salmaan lost the chance to work with great icons of the film industry, including Kamal Haasan, Nassar and Mani Ratnam.
Things became more clear after the movie's release when Thug Life, co-written by the director and the lead actor, wasn't able to strike a chord with many viewers, who expected the movie to be a powerful cinematic experience.
Talking about Salmaan's work front, he has a number of films in his pipeline, including I'm Game, Aakasam Lo Oka Tara and Kaantha, as well as a cameo in Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen's upcoming projects, produced by the Kurup star himself.

Mrunal Thakur opens up about her strong belief in evil eye amid dating rumours with Dhanush: 'Bohot nazar lagti hai'
Fresh off the success of Son of Sardaar 2 alongside Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur is in a celebratory mood, but she's keeping her cards close to her chest. In a recent interview, the actress revealed she's manifesting big things for her career, but avoids speaking about them aloud, thanks to her strong belief in the concept of 'nazar' (evil eye). 'There are a lot of things I still need to do with my career, a lot of boxes I haven't checked,' she shared with Instant Bollywood, but admitted she won't discuss them openly. Mrunal believes that revealing too much too soon can bring bad luck. 'I will talk about those things once I actually do them, because I don't want to jinx it... bohot nazar lagti hai,' she added. 'You should control how much you tell the world' Mrunal went on to explain that she maintains strong personal boundaries, especially when it comes to navigating fame and fan expectations. Director Aanand L Rai And Dhanush Mull Legal Action On Raanjhanaa AI Ending: "Worried About Our Other Films"
New Delhi: Filmmaker Aanand L Rai has confirmed that he and actor Dhanush are exploring legal action against the AI-altered re-release of their 2013 film Raanjhanaa. The filmmaker called the modification which features an alternate happy ending "a very dangerous precedent" and raised alarm about what this could mean for the future of creative ownership. "I am very worried about my other films. So is Dhanush. We are actively looking at judicial remedies to restore and preserve our creative content from such extraneous interventions," Aanand L Rai said in a strongly worded statement. He emphasised that while they're examining long-term legal measures, the immediate focus is on the unauthorised alteration of Raanjhanaa. The Tamil version of the film, titled Ambikapathy, was re-released by rights holder Eros International on August 1 with an AI-generated climax that gives the film a happy ending, a drastic departure from the original. Aanand L Rai, who directed the film, shared his deep disapproval on social media, calling the AI edit "jarring and disturbing." In a post, he wrote, "The past three weeks have been surreal, and deeply upsetting. To watch Raanjhanaa, a film born out of care, conflict, collaboration, and creative risk, be altered, repackaged, and re-released without my knowledge or consent has been nothing short of devastating. What makes it worse is the complete ease and casualness with which it's been done." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Aanand L Rai (@aanandlrai) Dhanush, who played the lead role in the film, echoed the sentiment. In a post on X, he said, "The re-release of Raanjhanaa with an AI-altered climax has completely disturbed me. This alternate ending has stripped the film of its very soul, and the concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection." For the love of cinema 🙏 — Dhanush (@dhanushkraja) August 3, 2025 In response, Eros International Media Limited, which holds the copyright to the film issued a statement saying that they are the "sole and exclusive copyright owner" and have full rights to exhibit, adapt, and re-release the film in any format. Pradeep Dwivedi, Group CEO, Eros Media World, told NDTV in an exclusive interview, "While not legally required, Eros believes in fair engagement. In this case, despite the ongoing legal matter, our notice of creative intent was conveyed post-production to Mr Rai. We regret his response but stand by the decision to proceed responsibly and transparently." Dwivedi further said, "We view Mr Rai's public outburst, especially timed just days after the regulatory disclosures advised previously, as a conscious attempt to shift focus away from the legal and governance issues he currently faces. It is unfortunate that a filmmaker of his stature would attempt to conflate legal accountability with creative victimhood." As for Dhanush's objection, the studio issues a statement, "We would like to respectfully clarify that an Eros representative had engaged in direct communication with Mr Dhanush's team regarding the proposed revisions, and no formal objection was communicated to us prior the AI-enhanced re-release of Ambikapathy." Even as the controversy grows, Aanand L Rai and Dhanush seem determined to take the matter to court, warning that if left unchallenged, such use of AI could set a precedent that undermines the integrity of creative work across the film industry.
