Heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds with afternoon storms
4:50PM RADAR UPDATE: Scattered storms have fired up north of Hwy. 60. Lightning and heavy rainfall are the main concerns. The heavier storms will likely produce gusty winds as well that may top 40 mph.
The SPC does have Southern Missouri under a marginal risk for a severe storm or two with wind gusts that could approach 60 mph.
This does not look like a repeat of last Sunday, but the gusty winds could dislodge branches broken by storms a week ago. These could come down, resulting in additional tree damage or possibly a power outage.
Pockets of very heavy rainfall are likely as well. This could result in localized flooding or street flooding.

Scattered storms increase for Sunday afternoon
Scattered showers and storms increase through the day, maxing out in coverage this afternoon and evening. While severe weather is not expected, a few storms could bring heavy downpours, gusty winds, and cloud to ground lightning. Temperatures on Sunday will be near 90 and humidity will be high with a mix of clouds and sun. Storms dissipate shortly after sunset and the rest of the night looks mostly dry outside of a spot shower or two. For Monday, spot showers and storms are again possible with the focus for the majority of this activity across southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. A cold front stalls and wobbles over the region for much of the week which means we'll see storms on and off, especially in the afternoon hours when daytime heating is at its max. WATCH: Flooding seen across central North Carolina after Tropical Storm Chantal
