Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul slammed by heavyweight contender Tony Yoka
Olympic gold medallist Tony Yoka says he cannot believe that Anthony Joshua is contemplating a fight with influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn and Most Valuable Promotions CEO Nakisa Bidarian have both added fuel to the fire in recent weeks when it comes to a potential bout between Joshua and Paul. But Yoka, who joined Frank Warren's Queensberry earlier this week, stated that the bout would be pointless, as Joshua does not need the money a fight with Paul would generate. The Frenchman told Box Nation: 'That's bull***t. I can't believe it. 'You can't make me believe that Anthony Joshua is going to fight Jake Paul, why? 'Joshua does not need money. He's the heavyweight, he's the fighter who makes the most. Everybody knows he's the one. 'Joshua is still good for a heavyweight; he is 35, 36 years old, you can't tell me he is going to fight Jake Paul. 'What's the point? I can't believe it.' Like Joshua, Yoka won Olympic gold at super-heavyweight, defeating Joe Joyce in controversial circumstances at Rio 2016. However, Yoka's transition to the pro ranks has not gone as smoothly as his fellow Olympian, the Frenchman's record standing at 17-3 and without a sniff of the world titles Joshua has claimed over the years. Anthony Joshua teases surprise move into another sport amid Jake Paul showdown talks
Anthony Joshua has taken to social media to make a plea to Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn over a business venture in a different sport. Since turning professional in 2013 Joshua has been attached to the Matchroom banner, a partnership that led to two-time world champion status for the 2012 Olympic gold medallist. Currently sidelined as he recovers from elbow surgery he underwent earlier this year, Joshua appears to be brainstorming ideas for life after boxing, suggesting to Hearn that they tackle football agency together. He posted on his Instagram story: 'Eddie Hearn, the family has conquered darts, snooker, pool, boxing, fishing, golf, owning a football club & you've had a presence in basketball, netball & gymnastics. 'I believe 'we' could look at the football agency industry and have a strong presence. 'Imagine we help manager the player who helped England win the World Cup. 'Call me tomorrow mate.' Eddie Hearn's father, founder of Matchroom Barry Hearn, owned English Football League club Leyton Orient for the best part of two decades, but that is the limit of the family's direct involvement in the sport. However, Matchroom's success across a variety of sports would give them instant authority in the world of football. There has been some overlap with football agencies and promotions in the past, with one of the biggest companies in soccer, Wasserman, buying Team Sauerland and creating Wasserman Boxing in 2021. In May, Joshua confirmed that he was exploring the possibility of buying shares in hometown football club Watford. FA Cup on display at Harwich and Parkeston FC
The FA Cup has been displayed at a non-league football club as part of its 150th anniversary side Harwich and Parkeston FC are returning to the competition for the first time since 2019, facing AFC Dunstable in the extra preliminary round on chairman Tony Armstrong said the display of the trophy was instrumental in showing how far the club had come since nearly going out of existence 23 years ago."It's the hard work from volunteers that has resurrected the club," he said. The club opened its doors to its youth teams and the public to come to see the iconic president Terry Francis said: "It's an honour for the club and inspiring for young people and non-league supporters."Supporter Mark, 38, who has been taking his daughter Holly, 11, to matches since she was born, said it was surreal to see the trophy, especially at his home team manager Matt Carmichael said: "A successful [cup] run would mean a lot to the club financially."He said the club was on a good trajectory, following their promotion to Premier Division of the Essex Senior League, and the "sky is the limit."
