Windermere speedster CJ Bronaugh's gives Gators first top-100 commitment in '26 class
UF moved to No. 13 in 247Sports team composite rankings with the commitment of Bronaugh, considered the nation's No. 12 player at his position and No. 99 overall. He also holds the No. 9 spot in the Sentinel's 2026 Central Florida Super60 football prospects.

Bronaugh originally committed to Nebraska last fall. But he flipped to UF on Wednesday even after recently visiting Florida State, one of more than two dozen schools pursuing the 6-foot-1, 166-pound speedster from Winter Garden.
Bronaugh compiled 30 tackles, three for loss, six interceptions, including three pick-sixes, and four pass breakups in eight games in 2024, according to MaxPreps.
But Bronaugh was unstoppable in 2025 as a sprinter, highlighted by a 10.24 time in the 100-meter dash at the Florida Relays — to rank No. 3 all-time in the Orlando area. His 10.34 to win the Class 4A state title might be the last time he displayed his speed away from the football field.
'It's all about summer football workouts and my college visits,' Bronaugh told the Orlando Sentinel last week. 'I'm going to put on some more muscle and keep my speed up. It definitely helps to be fast on the field.'

Few will be faster than Bronaugh, who won his final 13 100 races, including nine in 2025 with six of them 10.34 or faster. He also had four 200 victories in four tries, including an area-best 20.87 in the 200 for a third school record.
Bronaugh is the 13th commitment, and ninth in two weeks, for the Gators and coach Billy Napier.

Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos was airlifted by helicopter after suffering an undisclosed training camp injury Wednesday, according to the Miami Herald. The Herald reported that Matos is in stable condition but that the Dolphins declined to say anything else about the 6-foot-7, 334-pound lineman's injury. Matos' injury appeared to occur during an accidental collision with a teammate late in practice, per the Herald, which also reported that Matos remained on the field, where he was attended to by Dolphins medical staff and surrounded by teammates, for at least 10 minutes before his hospital trip. Matos didn't play a snap for the Dolphins last season, although he did see the field during the 2024 preseason. The former USF football walk-on is still relatively new to the sport. He was born in the Dominican Republic, where he played baseball and basketball. He moved to the United States when he was in high school and eventually played three years of Division I college basketball — the first two at New Mexico and the third at USF. He gave football a try at USF, initially lining up at defensive end before ultimately switching to the other side of the ball. Matos played 22 total snaps for the Bulls during the 2022 season, according to Pro Football Focus, which has him down for 11 special teams snaps and 11 defensive snaps that year. Flash forward to January 2024, and Matos was one of 16 NFL hopefuls who received an opportunity to showcase his talents via the league's International Player Pathway in 2024. The program provides international athletes a chance to work out in front of NFL scouts at IMG Academy before the draft and then be eligible to fill a 17th practice squad spot for any of the league's 32 teams. Matos went undrafted last year, yet the Dolphins signed him. After training camp, they brought him back for their practice squad.

NHL Insider Says Red Wings Leading Race to Land Penguins' Rust
Insider reports indicate the Red Wings being the top contender to land Penguins winger Bryan Rust. The Pittsburgh Penguins are reportedly selling off what they can from the roster with the only exception being longtime captain Sidney Crosby. One of the teams most valuable assets is winger Bryan Rust. The 33-year-old Michigan native has been a consistent 55-60 point producer and has worked as a top line winger for the Penguins during their dominant run to back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. Detroit is in need of a top-six forward to play alongside Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond with Rust being the possible answer. Over the past two seasons, Rust has developed into a top end forward, averaging just short of 20 minutes a night and posting a 0.91 point-per-game average with 121 through 133 games. His average outranks big name wingers like Matt Boldy, Martin Necas and Seth Jarvis. Rust would be a welcomed addition to a Red Wings lineup on the rise and could add much needed scoring after they finished bottom 11 in offence last season. The move would likely include prospects which the Red Wings have plenty of and due to Rust's age that would limit his years in Detroit would likely mean a return package not being overly damaging to the Red Wings prospect pool.
