Patriots show off what-if covers for EA Sports' College Football 26
The New England Patriots' social media team had a little fun with the release of EA Sports' College Football 26 last week.
Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams and Ohio State wideout Jeremiah Smith made the front cover of the game this year. However, the Patriots' social media team created four what-if covers featuring Tom Brady, Christian Gonzalez, Drake Maye and Will Campbell.
Brady, who is the greatest quarterback of all time, makes sense as a cover athlete who has retired from the game of football. Meanwhile, Gonzalez, Maye and Campbell would have all been solid options as cover art players at some point.
Rob Gronkowski delivering his iconic spiked football would have been a nice touch as well.
Maye, Campbell and Gonzalez hope to follow in Brady's footsteps as cornerstone players for the Patriots.
The team hasn't won more than four games in the last two seasons, and they'll be looking to get back to playoff contention with the arrival of newly-hired head coach Mike Vrabel.

But before that gets started, one of the newest Patriots' players took time to impact his local community. Advertisement Safety Josh Minkins Jr. went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft and signed with the Patriots. Minkins played football at Ballard High School in Louisville, Kentucky, and stayed home to play college ball with the Cardinals. The local product redshirted his freshman year at Louisville and then played three years with the Cardinals, collecting a career-high 55 tackles, two TFLs, and a sack in his sophomore season. For his senior year, he transferred to Cincinnati, where he finished his college career with 45 tackles, and career-bests two interceptions, four passes defended, and a fumble recovery in 2024. Josh Minkins Jr. came to the Cincinnati Bearcats from Louisville. The redshirt senior safety is 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds. Now with the Patriots, Minkins will begin training camp in 10 days. But, in the meantime, he returned home for his fourth annual free skills and drills camp on July 5. Minkins hosts the camp at his high school for kids ages 5-17 to come out and have fun running drills with the now-professional football player. Advertisement "I think the biggest ultimate goal is just for the kids to have fun and just come out here and just you know, have a good time and everybody to leave with a smile on their face," Minkins said. "That's my biggest goal." Minkins saw great attendance at his fourth annual camp for the youth of his hometown, with 500 kids from the area participating. In attendance also included Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg. In a gesture to show appreciation for the undrafted free agents' impact in the community, Greenberg surprised Minkins by officially declaring July 5 "Josh Minkins Jr. Day" in the city of Louisville. Now, Minkins will get prepared for training camp as he looks to compete for a roster spot on the Patriots. Whether the city of Louisville will see Minkins playing on Sundays or not, the hometown hero has already made his impact. Christian Gonzalez comes in at No. 84 in the NFL's Top 100 players for the 2025 season
When it comes to NFL draft steals, the New England Patriots may have perfected the art form. First, it was seventh-round draft pick Tom Brady, who turned out to be a good quarterback. And while former Oregon Duck cornerback Christian Gonzalez can't be considered a steal as he was the 17th overall pick, there wasn't a lot of fanfare over the pick in the Boston area. Perhaps there should have been. In the NFL's list of Top 100 players that the league is publishing as the 2025 season approaches, Gonzalez comes in on that list at No. 84. After just two seasons as a Patriot, Gonzalez has quickly become one of the best defenders in the National Football League. He played in just four games in 2023 due to a torn labrum, but Gonzalez made a splash in just that one month of action as he was the Rookie of the Month for September. Unfortunately, the Patriots would get to see just a sample of what he could do. But in the next season, Gonzalez finished the year with 59 combined tackles (50 solo), 11 pass deflections, two interceptions, one fumble recovery, and a touchdown in 16 games and 16 starts. Entering his third season here in 2025, Gonzalez and the Patriots as a team are looking to build upon what they started last season. Having Mike Vrabel, a defensive-minded head coach such as Oregon's Dan Lanning, should help Gonzalez tremendously and propel his career even further.

Robert Kraft reveals why Patriots left Gronk dent in Super Bowl trophy
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was asked straight up if he was ever mad at legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski for denting one of the team's six Super Bowl trophies. When appearing at Fenway Park, Gronkowski and former Patriots receiver Julian Edelman were playing around with one of the trophies. Edelman pitched a baseball, and Gronkowski picked up a trophy and used it as a bat to hit the ball, leaving a permanent dent in the trophy. Kraft could have had the trophy fixed, but he decided to leave the dent as a way of keeping Gronkowski's memory alive. "We're at Fenway Park throwing out the first pitch. I invited the team, and we go out with six trophies," Kraft said on the Dudes on Dudes podcast. "Right before, underneath the Green Monster, these guys are fooling around. Julian's throwing fast balls. Our boy Gronk picks up one of the trophies and hits it, and there's a permanent ball mark. If it was only one or two, I would have fixed it. But I thought we're going to have Gronk's memory for the history of the Patriots. I said we're leaving it." The dent is the perfect homage to the greatest tight end in NFL history and one of the NFL's all-time great personalities. That sixth Super Bowl trophy will always come with the story of Gronkowski using it as a bat to hit an Edelman fast ball.
