Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old woman was fined RM1,600 or face one month in jail by the Magistrate's Court here Friday for having illegal gambling paraphernalia. Jelicy Gasok pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to having four printed papers of Wah Hui lottery tickets without a valid licence, at 2.20pm on April 14, at Donggongon town, in Penampang. Jelicy was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a penalty of up to RM5,000 in fines, six months in jail, or both, on conviction. The facts of the case presented by the prosecution, stated that a police team from the Penampang District Criminal Investigation Department was carrying out an anti-gambling operation (Op Dadu) in the area when they detained Jelicy on suspicion of being involved in Wah Hui lottery activities in a public space. The police then seized paraphernalia including a Vivo mobile phone, a black mobile printer, four printed lottery slips, and RM34 in cash believed to be used in the gambling operation from Jelicy. A gambling expert later confirmed that the four printed papers were associated with Wah Hui lottery betting, the facts stated. Jelicy, who was unrepresented, requested a lower fine, telling the court she had limited means and worked as a shop assistant. The court ordered the seized money to be forfeited as government revenue. In another case, a man maintained his innocence over a charge of having a stolen car. Fredley Justin, who appeared before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali claimed trial to having a stolen Honda Jazz belonging to one Madji Md Kadri on Feb 6, 2022, at 10.10pm, here. The charge is framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code. The court fixed Aug 1 for trial and ordered the accused to be remanded further. These included the materiality of the breaches, the impact of the breaches on the company and shareholders/investors, and the roles, responsibilities, knowledge, involvement and conduct/action/inaction of the directors. "Bursa Malaysia Securities has also reminded the company and its board of directors of their responsibility to maintain the appropriate standards of corporate responsibility and accountability to its shareholders and the investing public," it said in a statement. On July 7, 2023, Zetrix AI announced that the company received a notification letter dated July 4, 2023 from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) to confirm that the Ministry of Finance (MOF) had approved for the company to be appointed as the collection agent for the government revenue and to extend its role as the provider of online services for the Immigration Department of Malaysia. Four injured in Bukit Sentosa bus crash; police cite brake failure
RAWANG: Three people, including a child, sustained minor injuries when a bus veered off the road and overturned in Jalan Tulip 3, Bukit Sentosa, today. Hulu Selangor police chief Superintendent Ibrahim Husin said the incident occurred about 11.30am. He said the 57-year-old driver was left unharmed, adding that there were only three passengers, aged 9, 17 and 38, at the time. "The bus, travelling from the Serendah KTM station to Bukit Sentosa, had just picked up the passengers at the Serendah government health clinic bus stop when the driver lost control at a bend," he said in a statement. Initial investigations suggest the bus experienced a brake failure before skidding and flipping onto its left side. All three passengers were taken to Selayang Hospital for treatment. The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving, which carries a penalty of up to five years in jail and a maximum fine of RM15,000, upon conviction. Police are urging members of the public with information on the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Bangladeshi cleaner pleads not guilty to molesting nurse in operating theatre
MELAKA: A cleaner was charged at the Ayer Keroh magistrate's court today with outraging the modesty of a nurse last month. According to Buletin TV3, the accused, Bangladeshi Bokhari Abu Boshir Mohammad, 30, was charged before magistrate Sharda Sheinha Mohd Suleiman, with deputy public prosecutor Wan Abdullah Mohd Rodzlad prosecuting. According to the amended charge, the man is accused of using criminal force against a 32-year-old woman with the intent to outrage her modesty at Operating Theatre 4, Melaka Hospital, at about 8.30pm on June 9. Bokhari is charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or any two of the punishments, upon conviction. The unrepresented accused pleaded not guilty. Wan Abdullah proposed bail of RM20,000 with additional conditions. However, the accused appealed for a reduction, citing that he is the sole breadwinner supporting seven siblings in his home country. The court granted bail of RM4,000 with two Malaysian sureties residing in Melaka. Additional conditions include monthly reporting to the Bukit Baru police station, a prohibition from contacting the victim, and surrendering his passport to the court. The case has been set for mention on July 18 for document submission.
