Large crowds expected as Longford Variety Group rolls out the red carpet for ‘Who's That Behind the Mask?'

Longford Variety Group has been arguably Longford's chief proponent of community based groups and local charities for much of the last three decades.
During that period, the group has accumulated in excess of €260,000 for a multitude of charitable bodies and schools.
It's a feat the volunteer-run group proudly celebrates with this year's major summer fundraiser. That showcase has been dubbed 'Who's That Behind the Mask?'.
It's an occasion that promises to be an evening like no other as a line-up of surprise celebrity guests and beloved local personalities don elaborate disguises, daring the audience to guess who's behind the mask before each big reveal.
The evening will act as a timely prelude to the group's eagerly awaited annual fundraising spectacular which is set to return in November.
Its corresponding 'This is Me' four night extravaganza saw the group raise a further €10,000 for a number of locally based organisations, the fruits of which were presented to a host of bodies earlier this year.
'This show is all about fun and mystery,' said Charlie Murray, Chair of Longford Variety Group ahead of next month's fundraiser.
'Every ticket sold helps fund vital programmes in our schools and supports the incredible charities that keep Longford communities thriving.'
Who's That Behind the Mask? takes place on Friday, June 28, in the Longford Arms Hotel. Tickets are €15 (+ booking fee) and are available now from Kevin's Dry Cleaners, Dublin Street, Longford, or online via Eventbrite.

UAE: Al Ansari Exchange offers customers up to Dh60 cashback after remittance delay

Al Ansari Exchange customers impacted by the recent remittance delays have received cashback vouchers ranging from Dh20 to Dh60 that can be used in their next transaction, the company confirmed to Khaleej Times on Friday, with assurances that enhanced safeguards have been implemented to avoid recurrence of the incident. The issue started on July 5, when customers who sent remittances had to wait for days to clear their transactions. It happened on a busy weekend, when many expats — after getting their monthly salary — sent money back home earmarked for household expenses, education, rent, medical bills, and other expenditures. Al Ansari Exchange, touted as the UAE's largest remittance and foreign exchange company, had apologised to their customers and noted a technical glitch caused the delay. Last week, Al Ansari Exchange confirmed to Khaleej Times that the remittance delays experienced on July 5, 'have been fully resolved and all other services remained unaffected by the technical issue.' In yet another statement on Friday, July 18, Al Ansari Exchange said: 'We have thoroughly investigated the incident and have since implemented enhanced safeguards to prevent recurrence. (We) remain steadfast in (our) commitment to operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and the highest standards of security and reliability.' 'As a gesture of goodwill and in appreciation of our customers' patience and understanding, we have extended cashback vouchers ranging from Dh20 to Dh60. These amounts were determined based on the value of the transaction fees and the length of the delay. The vouchers are redeemable on customers' next remittance transaction,' the company added. Al Ansari Exchange, a subsidiary of listed company Al Ansari Financial Services PJSC, again acknowledged the inconvenience experienced by their customers and 'affirmed that immediate and comprehensive remedial actions were taken.' 'We sincerely thank our customers for their continued trust and loyalty,' the company added.

UAE: Woman ordered to pay Dh30,000 for insulting another woman on social media

A woman has been ordered to pay Dh30,000 in compensation after insulting another woman on social media, according to a ruling by the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Claims Court, as reported by Emarat Al Youm. The court also directed the defendant to bear all legal costs and associated expenses. The case began when the plaintiff filed a civil lawsuit, claiming that the defendant insulted her by posting offensive comments on her photos, as well as sending private messages via a social networking app. The incident triggered a separate criminal case, which resulted in a conviction. The victim stated that the defendant's actions caused her emotional and psychological harm, prompting her to seek Dh150,000 in damages for both moral and material losses. She also requested that the defendant pay court costs and attorney fees. In its ruling, the court emphasised that evaluating the facts, assessing the evidence, and determining whether a wrongful act occurred are all within its authority, as long as the conclusions are reasonable and based on the case documents. The court confirmed that the criminal case files proved the defendant had used "insulting language through an electronic means of communication," according to Emarat Al Youm. In its ruling, the court clarified that moral harm includes damage to a person's dignity, emotions, reputation, or sense of honuor. Citing the UAE Civil Transactions Law, the court stated: 'Anyone who causes harm to another must compensate for the damage.' As a result, the court awarded the plaintiff Dh30,000 for moral damages, recognising the emotional suffering caused by the defendant's actions. However, it dismissed the claim for material damages, noting that the plaintiff had not provided sufficient evidence of financial loss.
