Rutherglen Glencairn co-boss left with rebuild job after summer exodus, but has 'added quality'
A summer exodus has left Rutherglen Glencairn with a big turnaround as they prepare for life in the West of Scotland Premier Division.
Co-boss Joe Pryce says he has the nucleus of his squad, but admits he's surprised by how many players left at the end of a promotion-winning season, including goalkeeper Chris White.
But Pryce is confident that he has brought in quality players, which the club expects to start announcing in the coming days.
'We lost quite a few of last season's squad, it's almost in double figures, now, that have moved on,' said Pryce. 'It's a big turnaround for us.
'But the nucleus of the squad – eight or nine players – is still there, so we're looking to build around that.
'We're not going to have a huge squad, probably around 18 or 19.
'The players we're bringing in are certainly going to add quality. We've got a bit of youth, and a bit of experience. We're looking to add good legs in the midfield, to help us out.
'We need a new goalkeeper, because ours moved on, but these are things we're working on, and they're not easy to get in, because we're a bit picky.
'We want to make sure we get the right ones in, that's why we're taking our time, but I'm in no doubts that we'll get there, and we will be ready for the first game of the season.'
Glens have been priced out of the market for some players, indicating what they will be up against next term.
Pryce said: 'The finance that is being offered by other clubs is quite simply ludicrous, for our level, but it's what they're paying.
'I don't blame the players at all – if somebody is silly enough to offer you that kind of finance, take it.
'We've just got to look after ourselves, in that respect. We have our set budget, we'll work within that, and we'll make sure we're competitive in that top division.'
Glencairn have announced three pre-season friendlies, starting at Thorn Athletic on Wednesday, July 9, Petershill on July 12, and Glenrothes on Saturday, July 19, the 50th anniversary of their Scottish Junior Cup final.
Pryce said: 'There's no reason for them all being away from home, it's just those are the dates available.
'We have a couple of bounce games in-between as well, to help us out.'

Shotts' pre-season derby win lets boss run the rule over trialists
John McKeown was able to assess potential new talent as his side beat Newmains 2-0 Shotts boss John McKeown enjoyed a winning start to pre-season as he cast his eye over some trialists in Saturday's 2-0 win over Newmains United. The Bonny kicked off their warm-up matches for another West of Scotland Premier Division campaign with a solid victory, courtesy of goals from new signing Kieran McGuire and skipper Ally Martin. McKeown had three trailists in action during the clash at Dalziel Park and revealed he is also set to bring in a player on loan, who will be announced in the coming days. He said: 'It was good for the boys to blow the cobwebs off, work on formations and get minutes into legs. 'Both teams were missing quite a few personnel just with holidays, but it was good. 'The performance was okay. Some players did well and others you could see that they need to get up to speed, but that is what it is all about right now. 'I have been a manager long enough to know not to get too carried away about things in pre-season either way so it served its purpose to get the boys going again. 'But we had three trialists and I am hoping to sign one of them in the next week. 'We've also got a loan deal confirmed but that won't start until July 6 and it is one we are quite excited to announce. 'The trialists who came in have trained hard and they'll just need to impress over the next wee period.' Shotts now face a trip East of Scotland Second Division outfit Fauldhouse United this Saturday, kick-off 2pm, and McKeown will have two key men back for that one. He added: 'We now play Fauldhouse on Saturday and that will be a big test for us. 'We will have Marc McKenzie and Ally Small back but there's just a lot of comings and goings at this time of year. 'With the turnover of players we had this season - losing so many and bringing in eight players - it is just really important to get everybody communicating and get good habits forming. 'These games are vital and more so than previous seasons with the amount of new players.'

'Proud day': Renfrewshire councillors pay tribute to Johnstone Burgh after Scottish Junior Cup win
The club has been formally congratulated following the penalty shoot-out victory over Lowland League side Tranent. Renfrewshire councillors have paid tribute to Johnstone Burgh after they lifted the Scottish Junior Cup for the first time in 57 years. The club has been formally congratulated for its achievement following a penalty shoot-out victory over Lowland League side Tranent on Sunday, June 1. Striker Kyle Lafferty converted the decisive spot-kick to ensure a 4-2 win – sparking euphoria among the players and supporters – after a 1-1 draw in normal time at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire. It meant captain Derek Esplin became the first Burgh skipper to hoist the trophy aloft since 1968 when George Caughey did just that. Recounting his experience of the day at Thursday's full meeting of Renfrewshire Council, Councillor Iain McMillan, a Labour representative for Johnstone South and Elderslie, declared it would "live long" in his memory. He added: "For those of us who were at the game, it was absolutely fantastic and I was very fortunate – I was there with my dad, I was there with my daughter and I was there with my granddaughter, so there were four generations of the family. "Being a supporter of a rather large football club, the difference you get when you go and see a smaller community club like Johnstone Burgh is like chalk and cheese because you virtually know everybody in the crowd. It's that community feeling." Ciaran Diver grabbed a second-half equaliser to take the final to penalties after opponents Tranent had taken a first-half lead through Harry Girdwood. Murdo MacKinnon's Burgh then held their nerve during the shoot-out, netting all of their penalties to send their fans and coaching staff into a state of jubilation. The West of Scotland League Premier Division outfit's pitch perfect cast of takers included Fraser Mullen, Diver, Ross Davidson and Lafferty. Later that evening, hundreds of punters draped in red and white descended on Johnstone's Houstoun Square for Burgh's eagerly anticipated homecoming. Councillor Andy Steel, an SNP representative for Johnstone South and Elderslie, said at the meeting: "Similar to Councillor McMillan, I was there with my boy and, despite very kind invitations elsewhere, I really wanted to be there with my son to create a memory that hopefully lasts a few years for me and a lifetime for him because that's what it's all about really. "We go to the Burgh on a Saturday afternoon and I like going to watch the Burgh because I get to spend two hours with my son, which I don't very often, so it meant an awful lot." Provost Lorraine Cameron added: "It was a very proud day indeed for everyone in Johnstone. "It just gave the community a whole buzz and you'll be pleased to know I'm in the process of organising an appropriate civic hospitality reception for the players and guests." Two motions congratulating Burgh were unanimously agreed among elected members.
