The English translation of the late author Fumio Yamamoto's short stories collection The Dilemmas of Working Women has hit the shelves.
Translated by Brian Bergstrom, the book tackles the relatable lives of women in modern Japan through five tales. Divorced and unemployed, Izumi wonders if the alternative is really better; the people around cancer survivor Haruka think now that she has recovered she should just forget about it; Kato feels invisible to her husband and children; Mito is cheating on her boyfriend and can't decide whether or not to accept his marriage proposal and Sumie is searching for a place to live.
Brian admires Fumio and in a social media post, expressed his joy of getting to deliver her work to an English-speaking audience.
The post reads: 'This is a dream come true as I've been a big fan of her for years, and I had almost lost hope of her work getting translated (not just by me, but by anyone!) after her untimely death (at 58 due to pancreatic cancer) in 2021. But in the end, I found people who responded warmly to her unique voice and vision and were willing to do what it takes to bring her to a whole new set of readers. I couldn't be happier.'

John Cena loves a traditional fish and chips

Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles John Cena absolutely loves fish and chips and a Full English Breakfast. The 48-year-old actor has been over to the UK a lot over the past two decades during his time as a WWE superstar, and he's embraced the local cuisine to the point that he went for a very traditional meal before Tuesday's Heads of State world premiere in London. Appearing on ITV daytime show This Morning, he said: 'I enjoyed [fish and chips] so much that right before our premiere last night, we had about 90 minutes and myself and my two friends, all from America, we sat down, we ordered fish and chips, we had a pint, and that got us ready for the world premiere.' John - who revealed he went for vinegar and a little bit of dunking in the tartar sauce' - got more of a taste for a chippy after the dish plays a role in his new movie with Idris Elba. The Hollywood star also opened up on his admiration for a 'savoury breakfast', which he learned to love during his early WWE days. He added: 'All savoury! In America, we tend to lean on the sweet. It's all very filling, but very sweet. Boy, do I love a savoury breakfast! 'I've been a fan of the English breakfast for a long time - you gotta remember, with WWE, I've being coming over here for 25 years.' Although the lines between real life and art have been blurred with his food preferences, John insisted that won't be the case after he played the President of the United States in the new action comedy. He quipped: 'I am playing the role of the president of the United States. I would much rather play the role of President of the United States than BE the President of the United States. I'm happy in my lane!' When This Morning host Ben Shephard joked that real life president Donald Trump often appears to be playing a role too, the wrestling legend kept his response diplomatic.

South Korean Hit 'Squid Game' Dominates Global Netflix Charts with Season 3 Release

The global phenomenon Squid Game is back and bigger than ever. The South Korean series took the top spot worldwide on Netflix last week, according to the streaming giant's announcement on Wednesday. Season 3 of Squid Game topped Netflix's global rankings from June 23 to June 29, amassing an impressive 60.1 million views. The show, which follows financially desperate contestants competing in deadly games for a massive cash prize, continues to capture the attention of viewers across the world. The series reached No. 1 in 93 countries, including major markets like the United States, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Its viewership was ten times higher than the second most-watched non-English series, the Spanish drama Olimpo, which tells the story of a group of high-performing young athletes and only garnered 6.9 million views during the same period. Even the most-watched English-language show of the week—The Waterfront, a family drama set in coastal North Carolina—only reached 11.6 million views, falling far short of Squid Game's global impact. According to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, the series released its final six episodes last Friday, wrapping up what has become one of the most successful and widely recognized shows in Netflix history.
