Cristobal, Beck and Miami Hurricanes heading to ACC Football Kickoff. How to watch
The Hurricanes kick off their season in just more than a month on Aug. 31 against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 7:30 p.m. from Hard Rock Stadium.
Before that, and before the team starts practicing again next week, the annual media tour is about to begin.
The first stop for the Hurricanes: the 2025 ACC Football Kickoff, which runs Tuesday through Thursday in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Hurricanes are the first team to talk, with their half hour session scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Coach Mario Cristobal and four players — quarterback Carson Beck, offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa, linebacker Wesley Bissainthe and defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor — are slated to talk at the event.
Miami's session, just like all 17 teams, will be available to live stream on ACC Network Extra. ACC Network will also have live coverage with additional interviews beyond the formal press conferences throughout the three-day event.
The Hurricanes went 10-3 last season, finishing third in the ACC and just missing both the conference title game and the 12-team College Football Playoff. Cristobal is entering his fourth season at the helm of his alma mater.
Beck, who transferred to Miami this offseason from Georgia, will be one of the major storylines for the Hurricanes this season. He is replacing Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Cam Ward, who rewrote Miami's record book in his lone season with the Hurricanes, and did not throw during spring practices while recovering from elbow surgery to repair a torn UCL sustained during the SEC Championship Game.

Dolphins tight end Darren Waller to begin 2025 training camp on physically unable to perform list
Looks like the Miami Dolphins plan to ease in Darren Waller slowly. The recently unretired tight end will begin the 2025 training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list alongside offensive lineman Liam Eichenburg, the team announced late Tuesday afternoon. Safety Ifeatu Melifonwu was also placed on the non-football injury list. Waller last suited up for the New York Giants in 2023. An early July trade brought the one-time Pro Bowler to the Dolphins. In his first appearance donning the aqua and orange, Waller mentioned the presence of offensive coordinator Frank Smith played a key role in the decision to return to the NFL. Smith was Waller's tight end coach during his back-to-back breakout years in 2019 and 2020. 'Frank is my guy, man,' Waller said Tuesday, adding that 'some of my best football memories overall' came during his time with Smith. 'When I got claimed off the Ravens practice squad in 2018, I got to the Raiders and he was my tight ends coach. He me at the door and one of the first things he was interested in was what do I need as a man in my newfound sobriety.' That interaction 'struck' Waller and the two began to build a relationship beyond X's and O's — although that part certainly wasn't lacking. The eight-year veteran called the ability to 'reconnect' with Smith an 'amazing' opportunity. 'Just his knowledge of the game,' Waller continued. 'The culture that he created not only in our room but just with how he interacted with players I thought was rare in coaches I had seen to that point. Some of the best years in my career were with him in the room and just , so to be able to reconnect with him is amazing.' In a flurry of other moves, the Dolphins waived quarterback Brett Gabbert and signed offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill. A 66 game starter with the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans, Brunskill brings experience and versatility to an offensive line room in need of depth. The six-year veteran registered the majority of his snaps at right guard yet has suited up at every position along the line.

Marlins hold off late Padres' rally in 4-3 win
MIAMI (AP) — Rookie Agustín Ramírez had two hits and scored two runs, and the Miami Marlins held on to beat the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Tuesday night. Kyle Stowers doubled and drove in a run while Heriberto Hernández singled twice and had an RBI for the Marlins. Miami starter Edward Cabrera (4-4) scattered five hits and struck out six over 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball. It was Cabrera's first outing since July 11 as his initial appearance following the All-Star break was delayed while he dealt with elbow discomfort. Stowers' RBI double capped a two-run first against Padres starter Stephen Kolek (3-5). Otto López put Miami on the board when he scored from third on a throwing error by San Diego third baseman Manny Machado. The Padres narrowed the deficit on Luis Arraez's run-scoring single in the third before Hernández hit an RBI single off in the sixth and Javier Sanoja added a run-scoring triple in the eighth to pad the Marlins' lead to 4-1. Cade Gibson relieved Cabrera and got the next four outs. Anthony Bender followed with a perfect eighth before closer Ronny Henriquez ran into trouble in the ninth. Gavin Sheets drew a leadoff walk against Henriquez and advanced on Xander Bogaerts' double. Jackson Merrill followed with a two-run double t make it 4-3. Henriquez retired Jake Cronenworth on a pop out, struck out José Iglesias and got his sixth save when pinch hitter Trenton Brooks popped out. Kolek gave up three runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. Key moment Cabrera's outing ended after he sprinted from the mound and fielded Bogaerts' dribbler to throw Arraez out at the plate as he attempted to score from third. Key stat Xavier Edwards singled in the sixth for the Marlins and has hit safely in 16 of 18 games in July.
