Exclusive: Shehzad Khan opens up about strained relationship with father Ajit

India Today07-05-2025
Shehzad Khan, son of iconic Bollywood villain Ajit, recently opened up about the difficult and emotionally distant relationship he shared with his father. In a raw and revealing conversation with India Today Digital, Shehzad didn't hold back as he recalled the pressures of growing up in a strict household and the weight of being Ajit's son.
The 'Andaz Apna Apna' actor said, 'Let me tell you, my grandfather was in the Nizam's army, so my father was raised in a very strict, military-style environment, and so was I. Naturally, he was a strict father too. I'm sharing something very close to my heart. The relationship I had with my father was similar to the one Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor had in the film Animal-very strained, very tough. He never praised me. Not once. Instead, he would always point out my flaws. 'Why are you like this? Why are you like that?' I just kept enduring it, telling myself that one day, God would stand by me." One of the harshest moments he recalled, was being told outright by his father that he wouldn't support his dream of being an actor. "He once told me, 'I will never make a film for you, not even a phone call. In fact, if possible, don't even say you're my son. 'Work hard and make your own path.' And I said to myself, 'He's forgotten he's talking to a Pathan - we are also Pathans' children. I'll face everything head-on.'And he meant it. Even when he met filmmaker Nasir Hussain, who was related to Ajit, he didn't use the connection. "I remember meeting Nasir Hussain sahab, who was a relative of my father from Shahjahanpur. Even then, I didn't write on a chit that I was Ajit's son. I sat there with my portfolio for about 45 minutes, waiting for my turn. When I told him I wanted to work with him, he said, 'We've already finalised the hero.' His office was huge, just opposite Mehboob Studio. He pointed and said, 'See that boy - today the whole city knows him as Aamir Khan.' I replied, 'If I can't be the hero, make me the hero's friend or the villain - give me something.' He said, 'Okay, some roles as the hero's friend are coming up, will call you.'"Shehzad further added, "I was told to write my address, so I wrote on a piece of paper, and when Naseer Saab saw he said, 'Looks like Hamid Miya's address!' Then he asked, 'What are you doing there?' I was about to say I was staying as a paying guest, but instead, I told him I was Ajit's son. He was shocked and angry. He said, 'Why didn't you tell me earlier?' I said, 'Even then, you would've given me the role of the hero's friend.'"
On a concluding note, Shehzad mentioned, 'My father was a very good actor and also a very good human being, but he was a very strict father."

‘Ranbir Kapoor is an amazing friend': Rashmika Mandanna reveals story behind selfie with RK on last day of Animal

After finding her footing down South, actor Rashmika Mandanna made her Bollywood debut in 2022. A year later, she shook up the box office with her co-stars Ranbir Kapoor and Triptii Dimri when their film Animal arrived in theatres. While the Sandeep Reddy Vanga film was criticised for glorifying violence and misogyny, Rashmika and Ranbir's onscreen chemistry won hearts. On camera, they were initially a madly in love couple with two kids, whose marriage started falling apart by the end. But behind the camera, Rashmika and RK became really good friends. The Pushpa 2 actor has now opened up about the same. Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna In a recent chat with Mashable, while taking a trip down memory lane, Rashmika Mandanna revisited her iconic selfie with Ranbir Kapoor from their last day on Animal set. While Rashmika was dressed in a simple blue kurta, RK was sporting his long hair and scruffy beard look. Talking about the same, Rashmika shared, 'This was, again, on the last day of Animal shoot where I went and told RK that we definitely have to have a picture together because, yeah we shoot the films but not generally do I take pictures. But for memories it's important and RK has always been super kind, super supportive and he's definitely, definitely an amazing friend to have.' Up next, Rashmika and Ranbir will reunite for the much-awaited sequel of Animal, titled Animal Park. The shoot is expected to begin in 2026, and the director has already teased fans by revealing that the sequel will be 'darker' and 'meaner' than the original. Meanwhile, Rashmika will next be seen in Telugu film The Girlfriend, after which she will star in Thama alongside Ayushmann Khurrana.

Rashmika Mandanna Calls Ranbir Kapoor 'Supportive', Recalls Animal Shoot: 'I Told Him...'

Last Updated: Animal was released in theatres in December 2023. The film starred Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead. Rashmika Mandanna praised her Animal co-star Ranbir Kapoor in a new interview. Recently, the actress was speaking to Mashable India when she recalled shooting with Ranbir for the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial. Rashmika was shown a selfie she took on the sets with Ranbir Kapoor when she talked about the same and called the latter 'supportive and kind". 'The last day of Animal shoot. I want to RK and told him, 'We definitely have to have a picture together'. We shoot films. Generally, I do not take pictures. But for memories, it is important. RK has always been super kind, super supportive. He is definitely an amazing friend to have," the actress said. Animal was released in theatres in December 2023. The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. The film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father, including gunning down 200 people with a machine gun. However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father (played by Anil Kapoor). However, following the film's release, Animal also made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Despite being a box office hit, it was called toxic and misogynistic by many. The film earned over Rs 900 crores. Previously, Rashmika Mandanna appeared on Neha Dhupia's podcast when she argued that Animal was 'just about a character' who's 'messed in the head.' She called the film 'raw, real and correct' and stated that despite everything, people enjoyed it. 'He's messed in the head and will go to any lengths for his father, that was engraved in my mind when I shot for the film. Nobody can do anything about it, it's his story. If you want films to be raw, real and correct, Animal is that. After watching it, to say it's misogynistic or whatever…if you enjoyed it, just leave it," she had said. ‘Girls, Krish Kapoor Doesn't Exist': This Saiyaara Ke Side Effects Reality Check Hits Hard

Last Updated: "Let's be real sisters, it is 2025 and we are living in Kalyug," said a woman, as she gave Gen Z a reality check. The Saiyaara craze is real and we mean it. Mohit Suri's latest romantic drama starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda is a rage at the box office and has struck a chord with the audience's heart for its raw portrayal of love and emotions. Amid all the rosy reviews for the film, a woman online has stepped forward to give the Internet a reality check. Her brutally honest take on the film's side effects on the young generation has gone viral, and let's just say, she did not mince her words at all. According to her, people are expecting to find someone like Krish Kapoor in real life, which is not going to happen at all. Moving ahead, she also had something to say about the young girls. In a hard-hitting truth, she remarked that most of the girls are not exactly the Preeti-type heroines either, referring to the female lead in the film Kabir Singh, which starred Shahid Kapoor as the protagonist. Ready to hear what she actually said? 'Today's girls aren't exactly the shy types. They're strong and independent. They carry the feminist flag with confidence," the woman continued. Then, she gave a dose of reality you didn't know you needed after crying over Saiyaara. 'Real life doesn't work like a movie," she remarked. Saiyaara vs Kabir Singh That's not all. The girl even compared Saiyaara to Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Kabir Singh and Animal, highlighting the difference between the heroes of the films. She said, 'Sandeep Reddy Vanga's heroes might be strong but they were all womanisers. Kabir Singh and Animal have same toxic pattern. But Mohit Suri gave us a male lead who was loyal to one girl and stayed with her throughout. That's the kind of guy worth admiring." Advising people to stop chasing fantasy, the woman noted, 'You'll only get what is written for you," adding that no one is going to have a love story like Krish and Vani from the film Saiyaara. Her final message? 'Grow up. It's 2025. Life is different now. Stay single and get married later. Study and build your life," she concluded. Here's What Internet Thinks The video immediately prompted reactions from Internet users, sparking a debate among the users. While some agreed with her statement, others had contrasting opinions, saying that they had found love and healthy relationships still exist. 'Absolutely correct, wrote one of the users. Another echoed the same sentiment, writing, 'Reality check nhi dena tha." One lucky woman took to the comment section, saying, 'I have a man like Krish Kapoor." Someone else chimed in, adding, 'I am blessed to have a man like Krish Kapoor in my life." Saiyaara was released in theatres on July 18 and has been running successfully in theatres.
