Molotov cocktails thrown at local Republican headquarters in Michigan's U.P.
No significant damage resulted.
The Iron Mountain Police Department says it has arrested a 19-year-old man from Iron Mountain, which is in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, near the Michigan-Wisconsin state line.
The attempted vandalism was noticed about 3:55 p.m. Saturday at the headquarters building on North Stephenson Avenue, the police report said. The caller told emergency officials that someone could be seen attempting to light a rag on fire that was sticking out of a glass bottle, then throwing the bottle at the building.
Security cameras in the area showed an image of someone trying to do just that, the police report said. When the man could not get the rag to light, he threw the bottle at the window, which caused the bottle to shatter.
A second broken glass bottle was located in the parking lot.
Officers were able to identify the suspect in the security videos and found him at this home.
"Upon speaking with the suspect, he admitted to making the bottles in his driveway and he threw the bottle at the building, to send a message against the corruption. The suspect was hoping what he made was flammable and would ignite," the police report said.
He was booked into Dickinson County Jail, pending court proceedings, on one charge each of manufacturing explosives, possession of a Molotov cocktail or incendiary device causing property damage, and arson.
"The attack was unsuccessful due to incompetence of the suspect and no significant damage was done," the Dickinson County Republican Committee said in its statement on the incident.
"The Dickinson County Republican Committee is extremely thankful for the quick action of the Iron Mountain Police Department," local party officials said. "We hope that the suspect is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We are grateful to God that no one was injured and continue to pray for all involved."

Even though the initial 911 caller said it was a Ford SUV, police didn't struggle to realize it was in fact a Tahoe. When police first caught up with the guy, he just stopped at a red light with the rest of traffic, giving time for multiple cruisers to amass behind him. Maybe it's his first time running from cops? While we think his vehicle choice is weird for a police chase, it's his personal ride. We guess it would be a great option for going off-roading and getting away from your pursuers. The closest he gets to that is driving over a sidewalk and some grass. But police in Columbus, Ohio have a policy that they don't PIT high-centered vehicles like SUVs, except in deadly force situations. We doubt this guy knows that. Instead, they start making preparations to spike those massive tires. In the meantime, the suspect keeps leaning out the driver's window, taunting police. He probably thinks they're powerless to stop his manly ride with a butterfly sticker on the back glass. The Tahoe isn't nearly fast enough to outrun the Ford Police Interceptors, which is truly sad. All he's doing is just burning up gas until something ends the chase. Police try boxing the SUV in when he stops a couple of times, but those massive tires allow him to just shrug the cruisers off. After he drives through an elementary school and past a couple of school buses loaded with kids, the gloves come off and an officer hits the Tahoe in a brutally effective T-bone. The extremely top-heavy Chevy flips onto its roof like a dead cockroach. They guy who just a moment before was taunting police suddenly was crying for help as he was stuck in the overturned SUV. Two women found dead after shooting in Warren, police on scene
Two women are dead in the aftermath of a shooting in Warren, Michigan, local police report. About 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, dispatchers got a call of two women who were shot at a home on Joanne Smith Drive, near Mound and Frazho. Warren police and fire were sent to the scene and found the victims. Both women, one of whom is the homeowner, were pronounced dead at the scene, Warren police said. "Investigators are on scene gathering evidence and working to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident. Investigators are also working to notify the next of kin," a police spokesman said. "This is an ongoing and active investigation." This is a breaking news story.
