Son of Florida Gators legend transfers to Florida A&M
After an underwhelming 7-5 season in 2024, Florida A&M has added another talented quarterback to an already competitive QB room. Lawrence Wright IV, the son of Florida Gators legend Lawrence Wright III, is joining the Rattlers after leaving the Gators in the transfer portal. He announced his commitment to FAMU on his social media account.
Wright IV played his junior year at South Broward High School in South Florida before moving to Gainesville. At P.K. Yonge High School in Gainesville, the 6-foot-1, 243-pound quarterback wrapped up his high school career by rushing for 470 yards and six touchdowns, while also passing for 468 yards and one touchdown during his senior season.

Wright III, a University of Florida Athletic Hall of Famer, was a key player in the Gators' 1996 National Championship win. In 1995, he was named an All-American and also earned the prestigious Jim Thorpe Award. He contributed to four consecutive SEC championships before moving on to the NFL. Wright III spent two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, recording 25 tackles across 18 games.
Wright IV's commitment comes after former Fordham quarterback CJ Montes committed to the Rattlers and then departed to rejoin Kent State. The son of the Florida legend will be tasked with winning the QB1 job last held by Daniel Richardson last season. Richardson emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in HBCU football.
Heading into the MEAC-SWAC Challenge against Norfolk State, Richardson was named as Florida A&M's starting quarterback and immediately secured his spot for the defending Celebration Bowl champions. He led the Rattlers to comeback wins over both Norfolk State and South Carolina State, showcasing his throwing accuracy and ability to make plays.
Richardson's play helped Florida A&M become ranked in the AFCA Coaches Poll before their loss to Jackson State. But, he ultimately suffered an injury against Prairie View A&M University in November. He wasn't on the sidelines for long as he finished out the season strong to complete the season for the Rattlers. Now, the Rattlers look to figure out the next step in their quarterback journey.

Now, Lawrence Wright IV will have the opportunity to create his own legacy at an HBCU and possibly be the quarterback to get the Rattlers back to their contending ways.

Former Texas A&M guard Tyrece "Boots" Radford solidified his standing as one of the program's more popular players over the last decade after transferring from Virginia Tech, following then-head coach Buzz Williams to College Station to join the Aggies ahead of the 2021 season. This is fairly typical in international play, as most players do not sign long-term contracts, unlike in the NBA. Based on his performance in Turkey last season, averaging nearly 20 points per game would have warranted a longer stay; however, that's just how quickly international player movement occurs. During his time at Texas A&M, Radford's elite defensive skill set translates perfectly to the NBA. However, his injury history, coupled with his lack of quickness, places him in a unique spot: still young enough, at the age of 26, to potentially land on an NBA roster in the near future. While DeSean Jackson's appointment as coach of Delaware State has provided a lot of positive momentum for the team, the MEAC's predicted order of finish certainly put things into perspective. Despite the monumental hire, the Hornets are expected to finish sixth in the conference. Howard University, who made the MEAC Championship in 2023, and Michael Vick's Norfolk State are the two schools above them at the fifth and fourth spots. Jackson spoke about the low ranking for his team with Shady McCoy on the ESPN+ broadcast of MEAC Media Day 'That don't bother me, man. At the end of day, I'm still modest with this, because at the end of the day, I know the work we're putting in. Regardless, I love the underdog. You know, I've been an underdog my whole whole life and I've been successful in my whole life.' He added, 'So coming into this, we won, what, two games and lost 22 over the…So, you know, I come into this situation…I'm good at the bottom right now., but I guarantee we ain't gonna stay there.' Perhaps Delaware State's low ranking in this season's preseason poll is because of the fortunes of the program before Jackson accepted the coaching position in December. Former head coach Lee Hull and athletic director Alecia Shields-Gadson departed from the program after the Hornets ended their 12th straight losing season. The university last won the MEAC title in 2007. Jackson made it clear in his introductory press conference in January that he expects his team to be competitive and even be in the mix for the Celebration Bowl. 'We ain't waiting. We want to be at the Celebration Bowl this year. We want to win the MEAC this year. Whatever was going on, we can't do that anymore. We've got to move forward and change that, starting on day one.' Jackson and his Hornets certainly have the motivation to prove everyone that's doubted them wrong. 2027 4-star Edge places Texas A&M in his Top 12 program list
Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class lost its only commitment after four-star tight end George Lamons decommitted last week, which isn't surprising given the early state of his announcement, coupled with his ascending status as a likely five-star prospect by this time next year. This is just part of the process, and head coach Mike Elko and his staff are ready for any sudden changes. On Saturday, it was revealed that 2027 four-star edge Krew Jones, from Millville, Utah, has placed Texas A&M in his top 12 program list, joining Ohio State, Oregon, Florida State, Nebraska, USC, Washington, UCLA, Tennessee, Stanford, BYU, and Oklahoma. This is early in the process, but after landing 2025 five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles and his high school quarterback, 2026 four-star Helaman Casuga from Utah, the Aggies are beginning to develop a recruiting pipeline in the state. Standing at 6'5" and nearly 220 pounds, Jones is one of the top prep pass rushers in the country, recording 148 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, and 22.5 sacks during his first two varsity seasons, including 93 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and six pass breakups during his 2024 sophomore campaign. Again, this is just the start of Jones' recruiting process, as next summer will include a host of official visits, which could include Texas A&M if the staff develops a strong relationship this fall, similar to when the Aggies landed 2026 four-star wide receiver Aaron Gregory and four-star edge Jordan Carter, who both committed early last October. According to 247Sports, Jones is currently positioned as the 159th-ranked prospect in the 2027 class, the 20th-ranked edge, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in Utah.
