The new coffee shop makes the coffee that was once made illegal for making people "have too much fun".

When we think of Arab coffee, our minds usually picture the classic cup of Turkish coffee with a familiar Egyptian coffee house backdrop, but Turkish coffee is actually not the original Arab coffee.
In the sixth century, Yemenis were the first to adapt coffee cherries into the drink we so heavily depend on today – well, a variation of it, anyway. In Yemen, coffee trees are grown over 8,000 feet above sea level. Instead of peeling open the cherries and drying the coffee beans naked (which is what the Turks did after occupying Yemen in the 19th century), Yemenis left whole coffee cherries for four weeks on their rooftops, then broke them open to get their precious beans. The result was a drink that constantly surprised, playing with a variety of notes.
Coffee fanatics say that the beauty of Yemeni coffee is in the fact that an air of mystery surrounds each cup, some are more chocolate-y, while others carry notes of various fruits or earthy spices. It is this thrilling variety that popularised Yemeni coffee across the Middle East, and even led to some Arab leaders outlawing the drink in the 1500s, based on the claim that 'people were having too much fun in coffeehouses'.
Today, Yemeni coffee is no longer outlawed, and is instead wildly sought after. People all over the globe seek the unexpected twist of these meticulously-prepared beans, and they've finally made their way to Cairo (again), with Yam Speciality Coffee, the first fully Yemeni café in Egypt.
Yam abandons the usual (now redundant) minimalism of your average Cairo coffee house for a more distinct look. They offer several blends, each with its own unique set of notes, hailing from different Yemeni cities: Harazi, Hamadi, Hawari and Haimi. Which makes Yam the perfect spot to explore coffee as our generation has never experienced it before.

CIB finances Giza Pyramids Sound and Light Show redevelopment with EGP 963m loan

The Commercial International Bank (CIB) Egypt has signed a mid-term financing agreement worth EGP 963m with OSL for Entertainment Projects (OSL), a subsidiary of Orascom Investment Holding, to support the redevelopment of the sound and light show and surrounding exhibition areas at the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. The financing will fund upgrades to the sound and light show's infrastructure, including state-of-the-art audiovisual systems, lighting technologies, and civil works. The project aims to reimagine the area as a world-class cultural and entertainment destination, with a new show designed to narrate the history of the pyramids using cutting-edge technology. It forms a key part of the Giza 2030 vision, which seeks to elevate the site's tourism appeal and enhance the overall visitor experience. The agreement was signed by Manal Abdel Hamid, CEO of OSL, and Soha Abou Zeid, Head of Institutional Relations and Direct Investment at CIB, in the presence of Naguib Sawiris, Chairperson of Orascom Investment Holding; Hisham Ezz Al-Arab, CEO and Board Member of CIB; Amr El-Ganainy, Deputy CEO and Board Member of CIB; and Marwan Hussein, CEO of Orascom Investment Holding, along with senior executives from CIB, Orascom, and OSL. He also praised the close collaboration with CIB throughout the financing study and agreement process. Hisham Ezz Al-Arab said: 'We at CIB are proud to support this ambitious national project that embodies Egypt's cultural and civilisational heritage. Financing the Pyramids' sound and light show aligns with our strategy to back initiatives that drive economic development while promoting Egypt's tourism identity. Our partnership with OSL is a model for impactful collaboration in sustainable development.' CIB's support for the Giza Sound and Light Show reflects its broader commitment to projects that strengthen Egypt's cultural assets and enhance the tourism experience through improved infrastructure and expanded entertainment offerings. The project includes streamlining traffic flow within the site to improve visitor movement, expanding parking areas for buses and private vehicles, and enhancing accessibility through dedicated spaces for people with disabilities. Additionally, the infrastructure is being upgraded to meet modern standards of comfort and safety. Bayou & Tawsen Link Up on Summer R&B Anthem ‘Kayani'

Egyptian-Saudi artist Bayou returns with 'Kayani', an R&B track featuring Tawsen. The single drops alongside a coastal video and kicks off Bayou's five-city summer tour. Jul 07, 2025 Fresh off the viral success of 'Ya Zeina', Bayou drops 'Kayani' , a breezy Arabic R&B single featuring rising Moroccan artist Tawsen. Produced by Jean Bleu (who has worked with Drake and Marwan Pablo) with additional touches by Grammy-winning producer Motif Alumni (Doja Cat, Don Toliver), 'Kayani' is tailored for summer: smooth, rhythmic, and flirtatiously light on its feet. Opening with the line 'ليلي ونهاري بتمشى لأخر افكاري' ('Day and night, I walk all the way to the edge of my thoughts'), Bayou leans into a melodic coolness that's quickly becoming his signature. Tawsen, known for his genre-blurring French-Arabic delivery, blends seamlessly into the track's sun-drenched tempo. Shot on Egypt's North Coast, the music video pulls inspiration from early-2000s reggaeton with sunlit scenes, loose choreography, and subtle surrealism. The release also marks the start of Bayou's summer tour, hitting Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Jeddah, and Riyadh between July 8th and the 18th.
