Texas A&M athletic director shocks with announcement about future of baseball program
After days of anticipation, Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts has seemingly made his decision regarding the future of the baseball program moving forward.
According to The Eagle reporter Alex Miller, Alberts announced on Friday afternoon that head coach Michael Earley will remain with the team after missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021. The Aggies were also the first program in college baseball since 1991 to be ranked as the unanimous No. 1 team and not make postseason play.

Earley's first season at the helm was one that most Aggie fans hope to forget. Texas A&M went 30-26 (11-19 SEC) after being ranked as the best team in baseball before the season began. The only hope of the program reaching postseason play diminished after the Aggies fell to the LSU Tigers in the Southeastern Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
Following the NCAA Tournament Selection Show, and the inevitability of the Aggies missing the tournament was confirmed, the discussions of the program's direction were sparked immediately. Potential head coaches were tossed around on social media, as the fanbase felt that Alberts would move forward following what was a disappointing season, to say the least.
However, it seems that Alberts and the Texas A&M baseball program are moving forward with Earley at the helm for the foreseeable future. The former hitting coach and assistant turned head coach looks to be getting an opportunity to rewrite the wrongs that occurred in 2025 and get Texas A&M back to the apex of college baseball.
Will Earley turn things around in College Station? Only time will tell. If retaining Earley is truly the final decision, the surprising announcement from Alberts will certainly raise eyebrows if the program is not able to have success in 2026.

Game 3: Canada vs Germany (L, 104-88) Rioux scored four points on 2-of-2 shooting in the game against Germany. He played earlier than normal, seeing minutes in the first quarter. He positioned himself well on the offensive boards, tipping a missed shot back in for half his box score. That's Rioux's only offensive rebound of the tournament so far, and it's a nice sign to see. There's some Florida, Todd Golden sequencing in there if you look closely enough. That's the kind of film that will get him more minutes next season Game 4: Canada vs Mali (W, 100-75) Four personal fouls limited Rioux to just five minutes on the court Wednesday. There wasn't much room for debate on any of the calls, making this a learning lesson for the oversized center. SEC players are going to take advantage of a big player who doesn't know how to get out of the way. Rioux often goes forward while defending the shot instead of up, which is the only direction he needs to go at 7-foot-9. Insider: Steelers' T.J. Watt wants to be highest-paid non-QB, contract timetable revealed
T.J. Watt isn't looking to just surpass Myles Garrett as the highest-paid defender — his bar is set even higher: he wants to become the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL. This latest development was provided by insider Gerry Dulac, who shared a behind-the-scenes look at Watt's negotiations with the Steelers on Tuesday's episode of The Rich Eisen Show. "The stalemate is going to be that T.J. Watt wants to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league," Dulac said. "And the Steelers are looking at it that he's age 31. In order to accommodate any kind of large contract, it can't be a three-year deal — it has to be a five-year deal, because you need to spread the money out, in terms of the guarantee and signing bonus, over five years and not three. And now you're looking at T.J. Watt being age 36." Dulac then predicted a timetable for the deal — between the Steelers' last preseason game on August 21 and the season opener on September 7. If Watt wants to become the highest-paid non-QB, he'd need to surpass Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase's $40.25 million per year — which is no easy task for Pittsburgh to make happen.
