Read on for everything we know about the We Were Liars television series:
When will We Were Liars come out?
E. Lockhart posted on Instagram to expect the series in 2025, and just recently she revealed that the release date is June 18 on Prime Video.
Entertainment Weekly also gave an exclusive first look at the series with photos of the liars themselves, their mothers and the whole Sinclair family.
L-R: Candice King, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Mamie Gummer, Joseph Zada, Emily Alyn Lind and Shubham Maheshwari in 'We Were Liars
Is We Were Liars in production?
Yes! The series has wrapped production.
Who will be in We Were Liars?
Emily Alyn Lind (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Shubham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor (Baby Girl) and Joseph Zada (Total Control), will play the titular four liars, or the main quartet of kids that take center stage in Lockhart's novel.
Emily Alyn Lind as Cadence Sinclair in 'We Were Liars'
Lind plays Cadence, the eldest Sinclair granddaughter of the family who has a fling one summer and fights a traumatic brain injury the next. Maheshwari will play Gat, a New York City kid who is thoughtful, smart and ambitious, but who feels he sticks out against the elite on the private island owned by the Sinclair family. McGregor plays Mirren, an artest who watches the world closely. Zada will play Johnny, the reckless, chaotic and charming ringleader of the four liars' trouble-making.
Zada was recently cast as Haymitch Abernathy in the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, a prequel story that focuses on Katniss and Peeta's mentor (portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the quartet of films that starred Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson).

Mamie Gummer (True Detective), Caitlin FitzGerald (Succession) and Candice King (The Vampire Diaries) will also play leads — the three Sinclair sisters.
The Vampire Diaries creator Julie Plec spoke to Deadline about reuniting with Candice King on the project.
'Carina [Adly Mackenzie] and I, from almost day one, were writing Bess in Candice's voice…but we thought she was too young, and we didn't think we'd be able to get her hired. Then we realized that we didn't care,' she told Deadline, laughing. :Candice has a very grown up, mom soul, in addition to being this young, vibrant woman. We knew she could do it, and we just decided to put her forward and hope for the best and keep our fingers crossed and prepared to go into battle for her. And then nobody said no. Everyone just thought it was a great idea. All of our anxieties were for not.'
'And honestly, if Caroline Forbes is the part she was born to play, Bess Sinclair is the part that she's meant to play next. They're the same person, just separated by two generations and some children.'

Gummer will play Carrie Sinclair, eldest daughter of wealthy media mogul and patriarch Harris Sinclair (David Morse). Her parents own Beechwood Island, where the family vacations every summer. She has two sons, but the upcoming summer may challenge her sobriety.
FitzGerald will play Penny Sinclair, who breeds golden retrievers and is in the midst of a messy divorce.
King plays Bess Sinclair, the youngest daughter of the Sinclairs. She has three children, and her meticulousness and organization know no bounds.
Rahul Kohli (The Fall of the House of Usher), replaced Arsher Ali in the series-regular role of Ed, partner of Carrie.

Wendy Crewson (Tracker, Gray) is set for a heavily recurring role.
Who else is behind We Were Liars?
The series is written and executive produced by Plec and MacKenzie, with the former writing the first episode and the latter writing the second. Executive producers also include Emily Cummins for My So-Called Company and the novel's author, Lockhart. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amazon MGM Studios are the studios. Nzingha Stewart directed the pilot episode.

The show was given a series order by Prime Video in March 2023.
What is We Were Liars about?
Set on the Sinclair family's privately owned island off the coast of Massachusetts, the story explores the lives of the perfect-on-the-surface Sinclair family, who have secrets among them. The three Sinclair daughters and their children spend every summer on Beechwood Island.
Something happens to Cadence at 15 years old one summer, and her the other three liars prompt her to remember the full story two years later.
How will Lockhart's prequel book Family of Liars fit into all of this?
Plec will also adapt the prequel book, which tells the secretive story of a different Sinclair generation.
David Morse as Harris Sinclair in 'We Were Liars'
In an interview with Deadline, Plec hinted that there are already hopes for a Season 2 of the series, which may feature more of the plot of Family of Liars as she says it would focus on the mothers' lives.
I think fans of the book are going to be very, very happy, because I think we hit all the marks and all the beats that the book does, and then also expand the universe,' she said. 'Layers upon layers upon layers to really make the adult characters really nuanced and really multi layered, and to set the stage for Season 2, which theoretically is going to take us deeper into the moms' lives as well and add another generation to the story.'

The 13 Best Adam Sandler Movies To Stream Before 'Happy Gilmore 2'

With more than 80 movies and TV shows to his name, actor Adam Sandler is no stranger to the silver screen. He has earned three Grammy Awards, five Primetime Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Most recently, he was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2023 and People's Icon Award in 2024. On top of all of that, back in 2011, Sandler was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now, with Happy Gilmore 2 premiering today, July 25, 2025—a long-awaited sequel nearly 30 years in the making—fans are revisiting his funniest and most iconic roles. But despite all of those awards and honors, he is best known for his hilarious voice and unbeatable line delivery. First appearing on Saturday Night Live from 1990 to 1995, Sandler has remained a force to be reckoned with in the movie industry ever since. And here, we have ranked the 13 best Adam Sandler movies of all time. 13. 'Murder Mystery' (2019) Sandler teamed with award-winning actress Jennifer Aniston for the second time in this laugh-out-loud cozy mystery. The duo travels to Europe for their anniversary, but things go south when people keep showing up dead. It won a People's Choice Award for Favorite Comedic Movie, and its sequel was released in 2023. You can watch this movie on Netflix. 12. 'Hotel Transylvania' (2012) In this family-friendly film, Sandler voices Dracula, a father determined to protect his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez) from the outside world. To do that, he builds her a monsters-only hotel. Thanks to his voice talents, Sandler shines here. It also stars David Spade, Andy Samberg, Steve Buscemi and Kevin James, and went on to have four sequel movies. You can watch the movie on Prime Video. 11. 'Longest Yard' (2005) After Sandler's character, disgraced football quarterback Paul Crewe, ends up in jail and devises a plan to beat the cruel prison guards at a rigged tackle football game. But he can't do it without the help of ex-NFL coach Nate Scarborough (Burt Reynolds). Filled with laughter, heart and sports, this film has something for everyone. You can watch the movie on Paramount+. 10. 'Big Daddy' (1999) Costarring alongside Dylan and Cole Sprouse, Sandler plays their dad, who has no ambition but is forced to really step up and take care of his kids in order to impress his ex-girlfriend. Lots of laughs and dealing with second chances, the film allows Sandler to capture viewers' hearts. Rob Schinder and Leslie Mann also appear. You can watch this movie on Prime Video. 9. 'The Waterboy' (1998) With stars like Kathy Bates, Peter Dante, Henry Winkler and more, this movie might be one of Sandler's most underrated films. After going from waterboy to linebacker, Bobby Boucher Jr (Sandler) steps up to the plate, and soon a once-losing team has a chance at the championship. This movie is perfect for fans of Sandler's other sports comedy movies. You can watch this movie on Hulu. 8. 'Billy Madison' (1995) In his first movie after leaving Saturday Night Live, Sandler decided to do what he did best: make viewers laugh with his hilarious voice and wit. The last thing man-child Billy Madison (Sandler) wants to do is go back and redo kindergarten through 12th grade, but he has no choice. If he doesn't, his father's business will go to Billy's worst enemy, Eric (Bradley Whitford). You can watch this movie on Prime Video. 7. 'Blended' (2014) In Sandler's latest film with Drew Barrymore, the two set off on a dream vacation to Africa with their kids. The only problem? They have to pretend to be in a relationship despite the fact that they hate each other. Or do they? With things like safaris, elephant sightings and even Shaquille O'Neal, this movie captured viewers' hearts and didn't let it go. You can watch this movie on Hulu. 6. 'Happy Gilmore' (1996) After a failed hockey career, Happy Gilmore (Sandler) decides to try to win the PGA golf tournament to help his grandma (Frances Bay) out with her house payments. And with the help of his mentor, Chubbs (Carl Weathers), Happy may just pull it off. A hilarious movie that somehow made golf a lot more entertaining for non-fans of the sport. You can watch this movie on Prime Video. 5. 'The Wedding Singer' (1998) This was the first team-up between Sandler and Berrymore, but it certainly was not the last! Set in 1985, Robbie Hart (Sandler) is a wedding singer who ironically was left at the altar by his fiancée. He meets Julia Sullivan (Barrymore), who hires Robbie to help plan her wedding. Now Robbie must stop Julia from marrying the wrong guy in the hopes that she will end up with him instead. What follows is lots of shenanigans and even a song performed by Sandler himself. You can watch this movie on Prime Video. 4. 'Grown Ups' (2010) It was the team-up everyone had been waiting for: Sandler starring alongside James, Spade, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, and more! In the film, after their childhood basketball coach dies, five friends decide to head out to a lakeside cabin with their families for the Fourth of July. What could go wrong? This movie also had a sequel, Grown Ups 2, which came out in 2013. You can watch this movie on Prime Video. 3. '50 First Dates' (2004) Set in breathtaking Hawaii, Barrymore plays a woman (Lucy Whitmore) who can't remember anything from the day before, but despite this, Henry Roth (Sandler) sets his sights on her and does everything in his power to get her to remember him, much to everyone else's dismay. Barrymore and Sandler's chemistry reaches new highs in this rom-com. You can watch this movie on Prime Video. 2. 'Uncut Gems' (2019) Sandler's ability to become a serious actor, not just a comedian, shocked viewers with this film. Jeweler Howard Ratner (Sandler) makes a high-stakes bet that could hopefully get him out of his crippling debt. But soon thereafter, his business, email, and adversaries get in the way, and Howard is forced to decide what he really wants. A twisted story with secrets and revenge. Directed by Benny and Josh Safdie, this film also stars Julia Fox, Idina Menzel and LaKeith Stanfield. You can watch this movie on Netflix. 1. 'Just Go With It' (2011) With hilarious moments, a gorgeous Hawaiian backdrop and a fresh take on family, this film takes the gold as Sandler's best. Starring Aniston, Nicole Kidman, Brooklyn Decker, Nick Swardson, Dave Matthews, and more, it follows Dr. Daniel Maccabe (Sandler) as he tries to win over Palmer's (Decker) heart by enlisting the help of his assistant Katherine (Aniston) and her kids. The group sets off to Hawaii, and what follows is a journey of mishaps with so many funny lines that it's almost impossible to keep up with. You can watch this movie on Prime Video. ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty' Cast Salary Details, Pay Per Episode

While Jeremiah only spent $300 dollars on an engagement ring for Belly on The Summer I Turned Pretty, happy to report that Gavin Casalegno can afford to drop way more $$$ on a diamond in real life ' out this show pays! If you've been wondering how much Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin makes for everyone's favorite highly dramatic summer romance, we've been doing some research and think we have a pretty good idea of the cast's per-episode salary. Let's dive in. According to FlixPatrol, The Summer I Turned Pretty is the number one show on Prime as of July 24—ahead of Head Over Heels, Ballard, We Were Liars, and Countdown. In other words, it's making Amazon a ton of money thanks to an extremely loyal and engaged viewership. We also know that Amazon is willing to spend on the show just based on the soundtrack. all that music does not come cheap! Example? Chris Pratt earned $1.5 million for The Terminal List, according to Variety. Meanwhile, John Krasinski allegedly took home $2 million per episode of Jack Ryan. Obviously, Chris and John were both coming on board Prime with multiple blockbuster movies and TV shows backing them up—so it seems unlikely that the cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty are making as much as they did. To illustrate the vast range in celeb salaries, we can turn to Jeffrey Tambor, who was making $275,000 per episode of Transparent according to the NY Post—a pretty huge difference! Their exact salaries aren't know and probably won't be revealed, but according to The Things, the cast's net worths are all hovering between $500,000 to $1 million. Which implies that they're making in the tens of thousands (or maybe even hundreds of thousands) per episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty. Of course, the show has also turned them into influencers with brand deals, so money is rolling in from their heightened platforms as well. Either way, now that everyone is officially capital F Famous, expect Gavin, Lola, and Christopher's per-project rate to increase significantly for whatever comes next.
