SANDAKAN: Sandakan Tourism Association (Stan) will be launching a Visit Sandakan Event Calendar in conjunction with Visit Malaysi 2026 (VM26), as part of its promotional effort to further highlight Sandakan as the destination of choice for travellers. 'Therefore, Stan will be collaborating with various local event organisers to launch a dedicated Visit Sandakan Event Calendar in gearing up for the big push towards VM26 campaign. This will be a perfect platform to announce to the world what Sandakan has in store to welcome the world over,' said Teo after leading the association's committee members to attend a coordination meeting with the Sandakan Municipal Council regarding the initiative recently. 'We are delighted that the iconic sun bear has been chosen as the VM26 icon and the world's only Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) is located in Sandakan. We believe that this presents a great opportunity to further enhance Sandakan's reputation as the must-visit destination in Borneo,' he added. As such, Stan called on all interested event organisers who wish to include their events in the Visit Sandakan Event Calendar to contact Teo himself (014-3575908) or Deputy Secretary Catina Chia (011-18523080) for further information. 'The Visit Sandakan Event Calendar aims to showcase Sandakan as an up-and-coming venue for major events and, in turn, will help generate positive publicity that Sandakan is buzzing with hype and activity,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? PENAMPANG: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives stands ready to support entrepreneurs involved in developing Sabah's creative industry. Its Minister, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said agencies under his ministry are prepared to provide financing for entrepreneurs in the creative sector. Advertisement He said Sabah has tremendous potential to contribute to both the State and national economy, especially through young entrepreneurs engaged in film, visual arts, and digital content. 'If entrepreneurs in the creative industry have formed cooperatives, we can also channel financing to help expand their cooperative businesses. 'That's why I encourage the Sabah Film and Visual Association (SAFVA) to establish a cooperative, which would make it easier for them to secure financing tailored to cooperative needs,' he said. Ewon was speaking after receiving a courtesy call from the Sabah Film and Visual Association (SAFVA), led by its President Chester Pang, along with Secretary-General Jade Morris and Kota Kinabalu Zone Head Gregory Giting. During the meeting, Ewon was briefed on the various activities carried out by the association, as well as the challenges faced by Sabah's creative industry. These include issues related to financing, training, and market opportunities. 'I also shared information on ministry initiatives that are suitable for entrepreneurship in the creative industry. 'We want to encourage more young people to get involved in this sector through strategic support and access to financing,' he said. SAFVA currently has 158 members, comprising producers, directors, crew, and actors. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Published on: Thursday, July 17, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 17, 2025 By: AFP Text Size: Watson, 35, was found driving at 38 miles per hour in a 30-mile zone in Banbury last July. - AFP pic LONDON: Two well-known actors from the 'Harry Potter' film series have been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding in separate incidents. Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger, and Zoe Wanamaker, known for her role as Madame Hooch, were both penalised for exceeding speed limits in different locations. Advertisement Watson, 35, was found driving at 38 miles per hour in a 30-mile zone in Banbury last July. The actress, currently studying at Oxford University, was stopped while driving her blue Audi. Her lawyer confirmed that despite being a student, she could afford the £1,044 fine imposed by the court. Meanwhile, Wanamaker, 76, was caught driving at 46 miles per hour in a 40-mile zone on the M4 motorway in Berkshire last August. Like Watson, she received a six-month driving ban and was fined the same amount. Both cases were handled by the High Wycombe Magistrates' Court, though neither actress attended the hearings in person. The court proceedings concluded with the penalties being enforced without further dispute. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
