Man held for stealing valuables from train passengers
Mysuru: A man stealing valuables from AC coach train passengers was arrested by the Railway Police. His arrest helped police to solve four cases, which were reported to the Arsikere (Hassan) railway police, including one reported in 2018.
Police recovered Rs 22.7 lakh worth of gold valuables and gold blocks, about 281g, from Jitendra Kumar Chawla, 37, a known offender. He was remanded to judicial custody by a court. According to police, Jitendra was involved in 17 other cases reported in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. He was earlier arrested in another state and was out on bail.
Govt Railway Police, Mysuru division, inspector Chethan said Jitendra, a native of Punjab residing in Uttarakhand, was identified by them based on technical evidence.
He travelled in AC coaches of various trains and targeted passengers with their valuables when they fell asleep. All his crimes were committed during the journey between 12am and 2.15am, and after lifting their valuables, he would retire to his seat.
Jitendra, a father of a son who used to be a vehicle dealer, told his family that he was doing business and often visited them after committing an offence. He also enjoyed visiting Goa after disposing of stolen property to relax.

Seer's valuables were stolen in 2018
Jitendra told police that he lifted a bag belonging to a seer in 2018, which contained about Rs 10.6 lakh in valuables.
The complainant, Dr Sri Shivananda Shivayogi Rajendra Mahaswamiji, 68, from Srikshetra Sri Kodi Math, Haranahalli, Arsikere, Hassan district, reported that on June 11, 2018, while travelling from Bagalkot to Arsikere in train number 16536 Express. He fell asleep with his black leather bag containing gold jewellery and cash near his head.
Upon waking up around 2 am to use the restroom, he noticed the bag had shifted slightly.
Upon checking, he found the gold jewellery and cash missing, and the co-passenger was also absent. In his complaint, the seer informed that a gold chain with a Gauri Shankar Rudraksha pendant weighing 250g, two gold rings, and cash were missing.
The other three cases were reported in 2025, including the case of Pandit Shankar Rao Kulkarni reported in Feb.
Under the guidance of Soumya Latha SK, superintendent of police, Railways, Bengaluru, the police team cracked the case after rigorously investigating it.

Bengaluru woman kills pet dog, keeps decomposed body in flat for 3 days
Bengaluru: A woman has been booked on charges of killing her pet dog and keeping the body in her flat at Doddanekkundi, Mahadevapura, for three days. SHO denied anticipatory bail by Hisar court after affair with accused
Gurgaon: In a case that saw professional codes breached and lines between sleuth and suspect blur, an SHO who had an affair with the man she was tasked with investigating now faces arrest. The 50-year-old inspector was rapped for conduct "unbecoming of a police officer" as a sessions court in Hisar denied her anticipatory bail in an FIR filed against her at Azad Nagar police station on June 9 under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, IT Act and relevant sections of BNS. The court, however, also rapped police for adding irrelevant charges to the FIR. The complaint in the case is the wife of Aman Siwach, the man the SHO was investigating in a property encroachment case. Siwach's wife alleged the cop "deliberately" kept her husband under the influence of alcohol and forced him to spend Rs 1 lakh a month on her. She also claimed the SHO threatened to frame Aman in a rape case. The FIR was registered against the SHO after Siwach's wife furnished WhatsApp chats and audio recordings as evidence. The cop moved court, seeking protection from arrest. But additional sessions judge Manglesh Kumar Choubey, while denying bail, observed that while intimate relationships between consenting adults are protected under Article 21 of the Constitution, they become "immoral" when the parties are already married (the SHO is married, too). The court was also critical of an investigating officer getting into a relationship with an accused, describing it as "moral turpitude". The court insisted on the need for the SHO's custodial interrogation to investigate the money trail and prevent interference with witnesses. "This was not a one-time affair, it continued. This relationship was not confined to personal intimacy but encompassed within its ambit every possible attempt of interference in the working of the police force. Such acts and conduct are not expected from any public servant, but it was unbecoming of a police officer heading a police station. Her custodial interrogation is absolutely essential for proper investigation, to confront her with all the transactions on the records, to investigate the money trail, and to stop her from interfering with the investigation and influencing the complainant and witnesses," the judge ruled. The court also reprimanded police for adding several unwarranted sections to the FIR against the cop, stating that such actions did not merit "any medal or appreciation". Former SIMI activist from Padgha Saqib Nachan dies in Delhi hosp
Mumbai: Sixty-three-year-old former SIMI activist Saqib Nachan, who was arrested by NIA in the ISIS Maharashtra module case, died on Saturday morning while receiving treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. He was under treatment for six days following a brain haemorrhage. Nachan, convicted twice earlier in terror cases, was arrested in Dec 2023 for allegedly running ISIS modules in Delhi and Maharashtra's Padgha village. Following Saqib's demise, authorities deployed over 200 police personnel in and around Padgha as a security measure. After his release on completion of sentence in 2017, in 2023 he had come under the NIA's scanner once again as the agencies started their crackdown in the 'Delhi-Padgha ISIS terror module' case. According to the NIA, Nachan and his associates were being instructed by foreign handlers and were involved in terrorist activities, including the fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) aimed at furthering ISIS' agenda. The module declared Padgha village as a "liberated zone" to motivate vulnerable Muslim youths to relocate to the village, the investigation showed. In 2023, NIA arrested Nachan and his son Shamil, along with some others, in the ISIS module case. In November 2017, Saqib Nachan was released from the Thane jail after completing his 10-year jail term. Nachan was released five months before the actual term. The period was given to him as remission for his good behaviour. Nachan had then surrendered in the 2002 Mumbai Central, 2003 Vile Parle and 2003 Mulund train blast cases. While 14 people were killed, over a hundred were left injured in these three blasts. All the cases were clubbed together and tried under the now-defunct Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). Termed as the mastermind by the prosecution, the court found him guilty of illegally possessing an AK-56 rifle and sentenced him to 10 years in jail in 2006. Nachan's two sons are Shamil, currently imprisoned in the ISIS module case, and Aaqib (elder son), who was recently questioned and released by NIA. Nachan's first arrest came in 1992 under the now-repealed TADA Act, in connection with Operation K2, a shadowy alleged plot backed by ISI to ignite Khalistani and Islamic insurgencies in India. He was convicted alongside Khalistani militant Lal Singh and sentenced to life, but the Supreme Court later commuted his sentence to 10 years. He walked free in 2001.
