NEW YORK — After dominating the Baltimore Orioles with seven no-hit innings in his last outing, New York Yankees manager hailed Clarke Schmidt as 'one of the most underrated starting pitchers in the game.' Soon — if he's not already there — he'll be properly rated as one of the best starters in Major League Baseball. Advertisement Schmidt set the Yankees' single-season franchise record with 28 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings in the Expansion Era (1961), passing Catfish Hunter's 26-inning streak in 1975. Athletics designated hitter Brent Rooker snapped Schmidt's streak in the fourth inning with a solo home run over the left-field wall. Schmidt's streak is the longest scoreless streak by a Yankees starter since Don Larsen's 29 innings across the 1957 and 1958 seasons. Schmidt allowed three runs on three hits against a Guardians lineup that featured eight left-handed hitters that day. Since the second inning against the Guardians, Schmidt has been dominant. 'I just feel like he has a real good handle on his arsenal,' Boone said before Saturday's game against the Athletics. 'I feel like his pitch usage right now, especially the last few, has been excellent.' The scoreless streak coincided with Schmidt incorporating a four-seam fastball to his arsenal. It's a pitch he hasn't thrown since the early years of his MLB career, as he scrapped it for a cutter and sinker. But entering Saturday's game, Schmidt's fastball has been elite, holding opposing hitters to a .125 batting average and .188 slugging percentage. 'This has been a pitch that we've been working on and fiddling with over the course of this year,' Schmidt said earlier this month. 'I'm really happy with where it's been. It doesn't always get registered as a four-seamer, so the usage is messed up a little bit. For me, it just gets guys off the cutter, especially lefties. It can be effective versus righties as well for some swing-and-miss at the top of the zone, especially when guys are hunting my breaking ball package. When you can mix up usages and get guys off certain pitches that they're obviously sitting on, that's when you find success.' Ripley, arguably the most protected star in WWE's women's division, nearly fell short in her Street Fight against The Judgment Day's Raquel Rodriguez thanks to some interference from Roxanne Perez. But the nearly unbeatable Ripley was able to overcome both Perez and Rodriguez with an avalanche Riptide for the ages. When WWE announced that Ripley vs. Rodriguez would be a Street Fight, that paved the way for a wonky finish that would allow Ripley to take the loss while still looking strong in defeat. Lo and behold, Ripley was still able to avoid a rare loss, instead beating Rodriguez in resounding fashion. WWE Night of Champions 2025 Results for Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Rodriguez WWE's creative team had a chance to pull off a shocking loss for Ripley at WWE Night of Champions 2025, but Ripley emerged victorious, after all. Rodriguez was unable to capitalize on the outside interference from Perez in her attempt to give Ripley just her third pinfall defeat since May 2022. Instead, Ripley picked up a big win as she looks to regain the momentum she had in early 2025. That's been going on for months now, and there have been both subtle and obvious signs that this isn't sitting well with Morgan. Prior to her injury, Morgan was reportedly set for a major babyface turn as she continues to soar in popularity thanks to her consistently great performances. Even though Ripley beat Rodriguez at Night of Champions 2025, WWE is clearly laying the groundwork for Morgan to return, form an unlikely alliance with her former rival Ripley and go after Perez, Rodriguez and Judgment Day. That's a potentially intriguing storyline that could get Morgan back to her face roots, unite Morgan and Ripley as a powerhouse duo and ultimately lead to the dismantling of The Judgment Day. Given Morgan's injury that will take some time, but Ripley's WWE Night of Champions win was likely just the start to something really big for Ripley, Morgan and everyone involved.

Blues, Joel Hofer agree to 2-year, $6.8 million contract extension
ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Blues have signed pending restricted free agent goaltender Joel Hofer to a two-year, $6.8 million contract extension ($3.4 million average annual value), the team announced Saturday. Hofer, 24, would have become an RFA if unsigned on July 1 and eligible to sign an offer sheet with another club. Advertisement Blues general manager Doug Armstrong indicated earlier this week that he wasn't worried about Hofer's contract situation. The team's fourth-round pick in 2018 had a $775,000 AAV on his expiring two-year contract, so he's receiving a sizable raise. Hofer was 16-8-3 in 2024-25 with a 2.64 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. The Blues' goalie tandem is now set for the 2025-26 season, with starter Jordan Binnington having two more seasons left on his contract ($6 million AAV).
