'Sacred Covenant' – How the Paxton divorce rocks the bruising Republican Senate primary in Texas
Paxton, a MAGA champion and longtime ally of President Donald Trump – who has been battered over the past decade by multiple controversies – is primary challenging longtime GOP Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, in what is shaping up to be an expensive and bitterly brutal battle.
The fundraising announcement by Paxton came hours after a new development rocked the Lone Star State's primary race.
Paxton's wife, Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton, a Republican, announced Thursday that she's filed for divorce from her longtime husband.

"Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds," the state senator wrote in a social media post.

"I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation," she added. "But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage."
In his own statement, Ken Paxton said that "after facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives."
The attorney general added that "I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with, and I remain committed to supporting our amazing children and grandchildren. I ask for your prayers and privacy at this time."
Trump Ally Paxton Launches Senate Primary Challenge In Texas
Paxton, who first won election as Texas attorney general in 2014 and has been re-elected twice, was impeached a couple of years ago by the Texas House of Representatives on allegations of corruption, which included claims related to an extramarital affair. He was later acquitted by the state Senate.
A veteran Texas-based Republican strategist, when asked how the divorce bombshell will impact the Senate primary, said the key is whether there are more damaging revelations to come.
"Most people I'm talking to are expecting a lot more details in this story that Republican primary voters aren't going to be too happy about," said the strategist, who asked to remain anonymous to speak more freely. "I think there is quite more to come and soon."
Paxton, in his fundraising release, highlighted that he was "blown away by the support I've received since launching my campaign. The grassroots movement to fire John Cornyn continues to grow stronger every single day, and this is only just the beginning."
"Our voters have been excited to send John Cornyn packing for years, which is why he's down over 20 points, and his campaign is getting more and more desperate," Paxton said, as he pointed to a number of recent polls indicating his lead over the senator.
Thanks to his strong support among MAGA world, polling has never been Paxton's' problem in taking on Cornyn.
The more important issue was whether he could compete financially with a senator with a history of strong fundraising.
Cornyn's campaign has yet to announce its second quarter fundraising. But Texans for a Conservative Majority, a Cornyn-aligned super PAC, announced on July 1 that they had raked in $10.9 million over the past three months.
A separate GOP consultant in Texas, who also asked for anonymity, said Paxton needs to quickly answer questions to make sure supporters and donors don't jump ship.
"The people that are backing him with their public support, such as elected officials, or people who are backing him financially, are going to want answers very quickly, as in today, about what's the damage. Is this true? Do you deny it? What other issues may come up if your spouse is looking to tell their version of the truth," the consultant said.
And the consultant noted that what Paxton's wife says going forward will be crucial.
"State Sen. Angele Paxton had been by Ken's side for the entire saga over the last decade and up close and personal with all the issues he's been accused of. She's been front and center for it all."
While Cornyn's campaign didn't put out any statement regarding the divorce news, it did issue a release titled: "Ken Paxton's TERRIBLE week."
It included a social media post from Matt Schaeffer, a conservative former member of the state legislature who argued that "Paxton is morally unfit to hold office."
While Trump has stayed neutral in the primary so far, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) are backing Cornyn.
There's a possibility another Republican could enter the Senate primary.
Three-term Rep. Wesley Hunt, a rising MAGA star who represents a Houston-area district, has been mulling a Senate run. Sources confirmed to Fox News earlier this year that Hunt had made his case to President Donald Trump's political team that he's the only person who can win both a GOP primary and a general election.
And on Friday, a Texas-based conservative strategist who asked to remain anonymous to speak more freely, told Fox News he believes "Hunt is still the only candidate in Texas that can win the primary and the general election."
A different consultant noted that "the possibility that Ken will exit the race changes the dynamics dramatically," and that "it absolutely does give Hunt something to think about."
Hunt, along with Cornyn and GOP Sen. This outspoken Black woman — who has been a rising star among congressional Democrats since she was elected to represent Texas in the U.S. House — has been such a thorn in the MAGA Republican backside that her detractors haven't been able to keep her name out of their white nationalist bile-excreting mouths as they take ad-hominem shots at her intelligence, appearance, competence, relationship status, mental acuity and the 'ghetto,' 'hood' and 'gangsta' ways she presents herself ( according to white people who pretty much think any authentically Black person is 'ghetto,' 'hood' and/or 'gangsta'). And they seem to desperately want her to be as unpopular with everyone else as she is with them. She's not, though. Recent polling released by the National Republican Senatorial Committee shows Crockett leading Democrats as a potential candidate to challenge incumbent Republican John Cornyn for his seat in the U.S. Senate, with 35% of respondents favoring her over Colin Allred (20%), Beto O'Rourke (13%), and Democratic Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro (13%). Crockett is leading in the polls, and she's leading by a lot — and the fine folks at Fox News are crashing all the way out over it. 'Some shock now, Republican Party polling shows Crocket is leading Democrats' hypothetical 2026 field by 35 points to run for incumbent Republican John Cornyn seat,' she reported. So, Faulkner thinks the poll revealing Crockett's popularity among Democratic voters is 'shocking,' but not so shocking that it's less shocking than the 'massive backlash' she supposedly received (as if anyone outside of the MAGA world hopped on that broken bandwagon) after posting an Instagram video where she supposedly made the deadly flash flood disaster in Kerr County, Texas, 'all about herself.' Well, about that video… Earlier this week, Crockett posted an Instagram video addressing a range of grievances regarding the second Trump administration, including its funding cuts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) — which some have alleged contributed to the flood death toll in Texas — President Donald Trump's massively unpopular 'big beautiful bill,' and his diet Gestapo-like immigration agenda. The video was nearly seven and a half minutes long, unless you ask Fox News, other right-wing media outlets, and all of their followers, in which case, less than a minute of Crockett's video actually exists, and it begins with this line: 'The sad part is I think that my heart is going to carry a level of weight that will continue to weigh me down as we have to continue to do our best to survive an administration that literally is against us.' 'And there's this gem. She said this on social media, blaming the administration for the flooding. And making the issue in Texas all about her,' Faulkner said, conveniently forgetting how Republican leaders responded to the wildfires in California all of six months ago. 'Not a single word about the victims, the children who perished. It's all about her. Part of her caption for that video gave a shoutout to her hairstylist, saying, 'My staff said, y'all are commenting about my bob,'' Faulkner continued. Again, Crockett's nearly seven-and-a-half-minute video wasn't focused solely on the flood, nor was it an official statement. Also — if Faulkner had bothered to even attempt to view the entire video, she'd know that early on, Crockett spoke at length about the victims of the flood. 'First of all, we need to truly give our heartfelt prayers to those that are still missing, as well as those who have lost, you know, young kids,' Crockett began, less than one minute into the video. 'Losing life in general is awful, but we've got babies that have died, and as far as I'm concerned, it's inexcusable,' she continued. 'It makes no sense for us to have the level of knowledge, the level of technology, the understanding of science that we have, and to pretend as if we have literally no tools — to be ignorant enough to fire people who are saving lives every day.' Just before the part of the clip that aired on Fox News — in which, according to Faulkner, Crockett said 'not a single word about the victims' — Crockett explicitly said, 'My heart is truly hurting for these families.' It was directly after that line that Crockett expressed the part about the 'level of weight' her heart will carry. But since Fox News' target audience is largely comprised of gullible MAGA rubes who have the media literacy of a dumpster full of wet mops, virtually every right-wing influencer and media outlet ran with the same 'Crockett made the flood all about herself' angle like a bunch of bobble-head idiots. Here's a Daily Caller playing the same edited clip, and shamelessly pre-facing it by warning his viewers, 'If you blink, you're going to miss the part where Jasmine Crockett actually mentions the flood victims. (In truth, you won't miss it because you blinked; you'll miss it because he only plays the last damn part of the video , which came after all of the parts where she talks at length about the flood victims.) For people who routinely shout 'fake news' from every mountain top they can reach, these pundits show us time and time again that yellow journalism is virtually their entire brand. Trump Apparently Didn't Know His Own Bill's Extreme Medicaid Plan
President Trump has no idea what's actually in his sweeping, term-defining budget bill. NOTUS reported on Wednesday that House Republicans had to tell the president that his 'big, beautiful bill' was indeed slashing Medicaid. Trump had a sit-down with the more moderate House Republicans on Wednesday in which he told them that the three things they needed to let be if they wanted to win in 2026 and 2028: Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. 'But we're touching Medicaid in this bill,' one member told the president, according to NOTUS sources. Trump has never been the wonkiest guy, but the fact that he was seemingly unaware that his 'big, beautiful bill' is attacking Medicaid is alarming. Either he's just completely settled into being a vessel for the Heritage Foundation while their guys spoon-feed him legislation, or his mental acuity needs to be questioned. Or both. Trump's budget bill will throw millions off of Medicaid to help fund tax breaks for the richest people in the country. At least 17 million Americans are expected to lose their health insurance by 2034, thanks to changes to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. It's not that Trump didn't understand that, it's that he didn't seem to know that was happening at all. To him, this bill is simply a GOP loyalty test with a massive check attached.

MAGA Rep Admits Trump Scammed People With Budget Bill
Donald Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' is on its way to his desk thanks to a 218–214 vote in the House. MAGA representatives, however, could hardly wait after the vote was over to reveal that some of their biggest advertising points on the bill to working-class America were actually complete duds. Speaking with Fox News, New York Representative Mike Lawler confirmed that the bill's 'no tax on tips' and 'no tax on overtime' provisions would expire just before Trump's term was out. 'This bill starts to make significant savings across the entirety of the federal government so that we can actually reduce spending and bring down the cost of living for Americans,' Lawler said. 'This is a big win for Americans across the country; you look at the tax provisions, the doubling of the standard deduction, the enhanced child tax credit, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime—' But the Fox reporter interjected to correct him: 'Those expire in 2028, correct?' 'Sure, within the tax code, but that's normal,' Lawler said. 'The objective here is to provide real and immediate relief to Americans all across the country.' But the bill is not expected to save the government any money. Instead, Trump's key legislative victory—which will slice taxes on the ultrawealthy and corporations—is expected to add upward of $6 trillion to the debt, according to a projection from the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez scorched the 'no tax on tips' provision during a heated floor speech Tuesday, telling lawmakers that, 'as one of the only people in this body who has lived off of tips,' the promise was little more than a 'scam.' 'The cap on that is $25,000,' she said, 'while you're jacking up taxes on people who make less than $50,000 across the United States, while taking away their [Supplemental Nutrition Assistance] program, while take taking away their Medicaid, while kicking them off of the [Affordable Care Act] and their health care extensions.' The 'big, beautiful bill' will also gut $880 billion from Medicaid and other crucial social programs, a detail so ill-favored by Americans that conservative lawmakers stopped holding town halls after the line item was announced due to staunch opposition from their constituents. But Lawler wasn't concerned that passing Trump's glorious budget agenda could have ramifications on their own elections come midterms. 'Do you think that this could come back to bite Republicans next November by any chance?' Fox asked him. 'No, once the American people understand everything that is in the bill as opposed to what the Democrats have told them is in the bill, they are going to support the largest tax cut they have seen. Had we not passed this bill, you would have had the largest tax increase in history,' Lawler said. That's by design: Trump's Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 arranged for individual provisions to expire at the end of 2025, effectively forcing a tax increase for the majority of Americans by 2026. Ocasio-Cortez, in turn, slammed the New York conservative, writing that 'it's not normal.' 'Lawler voted to make the tax breaks on billionaires PERMANENT while making the no tax on tips (just for those making less than $25k) EXPIRE in just 3 years,' she posted in response to Lawler's interview. 'He's also kicking tipped employees off Medicaid, ACA, and clawing back their SNAP.'
