Eco-Shop poised for more growth after beating expectations

KUALA LUMPUR: Eco-Shop Marketing Bhd's financial year 2025 (FY25) results beat analyst expectations, buoyed by strong gross profit margin (GPM) expansion, reinforcing the group's solid positioning in Malaysia's fast-growing dollar store segment.
The group's core net profit rose 17 per cent to RM214 million on yearly basis, exceeding 105 per cent of RHB Research's full-year forecast.
Revenue grew 16 per cent to RM2.8 billion, supported by the addition of 74 net new stores during the year.
However, same-store sales growth dipped slightly by 0.4 per cent, with a sharper eight per cent decline in the fourth quarter following a price hike in April.
Despite a temporary dip in volume, GPM improved by 1.8 percentage points to 28.2 per cent, effectively offsetting the impact of increased operating costs, particularly from the higher national minimum wage.
RHB Research maintained its "Buy" call with a target price of RM1.51, implying a 12 per cent upside and a 2.0 per cent forecast dividend yield for financial year ending May 31, 2026.
The firm described Eco-Shop as a "scarce investment case" that offers earnings visibility and strong growth potential, supported by ongoing outlet expansion plans.
"Eco-Shop is focused on opening at least 70 new outlets pa in order to penetrate the underserved markets and consolidate its market leadership in the burgeoning dollar store industry.
"Meanwhile, it recently launched targeted marketing campaigns to drive footfall and same-store sales growth by leveraging on the elevated GPM," it added.
While sales volume has yet to fully recover following the April price increase, RHB Research said the dollar store model will remain attractive to value-conscious consumers once they adjust to the new pricing.
"On top of that, the group's participation in the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah programme, with 168 outlets approved and 81 stores enabled, could be another effective lever to lift foot traffic," it added.

High CPO prices to lift IOI Corp earnings

RHB Research said the company's outlook remains positive as upstream earnings will continue to do well on strong CPO prices. PETALING JAYA: IOI Corp Bhd is expected to deliver stronger earnings in the coming financial years as it benefits from elevated crude palm oil (CPO) prices while pursuing fresh income streams through new ventures as well as mergers and acquisitions. The group is targeting fresh fruit bunch (FFB) output growth and cost containment measures that could support margins going forward. According to RHB Research, which met with IOI Corp's management recently, the company's outlook remains positive as upstream earnings will continue to do well on strong CPO prices. This is further supported by the group's embarking on new ventures to diversify its income streams. The research house said the group's valuation was still appealing, trading at 17.5 times its forecast price-earnings ratio for 2026, at the lower end of the 17 to 22 times range of peers. On production, it noted that IOI Corp achieved FFB growth of 1.3% year-on-year (y-o-y) in the financial year ended June 30, 2025 (FY25) – below its initial 3% target. 'While output saw a mini peak in April, IOI Corp expects production to pick up in July, with a bigger peak in the August to September period,' it said. For FY26, the group was targeting FFB output growth of 3% to 5% on the back of better weather conditions in line with RHB Research's 4% forecast. The company was also expected to keep unit costs in check. 'IOI Corp expects FY25 costs to come in at around RM2,000 to RM2,100 per tonne,' RHB Research said, adding that it had already secured fertiliser requirements for the first half of FY26 at flat prices y-o-y. However, a 2% to 3% rise in costs could result from minimum wage adjustments and Employees Provident Fund contribution requirements. On regulatory risks, RHB Research said IOI Corp would face minimal impact from the government's expanded sales and service tax (SST) and US tariffs. The group had obtained SST exemptions for its oleochemicals operations and over 90% of its trading volumes comprised CPO and palm olein, which were not subjected to the tax. 'There is no significant impact as 90% of Malaysian CPO production is exported to the European Union as certified products, with less than 2% exported to the United States,' it added. Looking ahead, IOI Corp was actively seeking brownfield upstream land bank in Malaysia and Indonesia and opportunities in specialty oleochemicals for the pharmaceutical and personal care sectors. It also expressed optimism over its 33% stake in a pulp and paper joint venture with Nextgreen Global Bhd to turn oil palm empty fruit bunches into renewable products. 'The first phase of the plant (150,000 tonnes) should be operational by 2028, with potential earnings before interest and tax (ebit) contribution of RM30mil to RM50mil,' RHB Research said. The group's diversification efforts extended to coconut plantations, where 3,500ha had already been planted, targeting 4,600ha in total. This business could bring in RM60mil to RM70mil in ebit at full maturity. RHB Research reiterated its 'buy' call on IOI Corp, maintaining a sum-of-parts-based target price of RM4.30 with a 2% environmental, social and governance premium.

IOI Corp upstream earnings strong amid CPO gains, says RHB

KUALA LUMPUR: IOI Corp Bhd's upstream earnings are expected to continue doing well on the back of elevated crude palm oil (CPO) prices, while the company is embarking on new ventures to diversify its income streams, said RHB Research. IOI achieved fresh fruit bunch (FFB) growth in the financial year 2025 (FY25) of 1.3 per cent year on year (YoY), below its original target of 3 per cent. While output saw a mini-peak in April, IOI expects production to pick up again in July, with a bigger peak in August-September. "For FY26, it expects FFB output growth of 3-5 per cent from better weather conditions. This is in line with our 4 per cent forecast," RHB Research said in a note. Featured Videos Meanwhile, the firm noted that IOI is excited about its 33 per cent stake in a new pulp and paper joint venture using oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) with Nextgreen Global (NGGB MK, NR) to produce renewable pulp and paper products in Pekan. RHB Research noted that the first phase of the plant (150,000 tonnes) should be operational by 2028, with a potential earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) contribution of about RM30 to RM50 million. It said IOI has also ventured into the coconut plantation business, planting some 3,500 ha of its peripheral landbank (target 4,600 ha) with coconut trees. "This is expected to bring in an EBIT of RM60 million to RM70 million based on current coconut prices and full maturity of trees. "Overall, we keep Buy on the stocks with a target price of RM4.30," it added.

Over 90,000 items in over 4,500 stores available under RM100 Sara aid

KUALA LUMPUR: The one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) can be spent at RM4,5000 registered retail outlets covering more than 90,000 daily items. Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the list of supermarkets and retail stores is not final, and any interested supermarkets or retail outlets may contact the MyKasih Foundation to register. "It covers over 90,000 essential daily items in 14 categories, including staple foods like rice and eggs, household cleaning supplies, medication, school needs and personal hygiene products. "Some of the registered outlets include Giant, Mydin, Bataras, C-Mart, and TF Value-Mart. Retailers wishing to register as Sara Partners can apply through the MyKasih Foundation," he said in the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH–Bukit Bendera), who asked about the application process for the RM100 financial assistance allocated to all under the Sara initiative. Amir Hamzah said they are also open to suggestions to review and include more eligible items. "We will continue to expand this scheme to allow more shops to participate. They simply need to register with Yayasan MyKasih and comply with the guidelines provided. "We encourage wider participation to broaden access. Initially, Sara (back then) only covered a small selection of essential goods, but now more than 90,000 items are eligible for purchase using the credit, and we continue to make improvements. We are open to suggestions," he said. In response to concerns raised by Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN–Kuala Krai) regarding the impact of the Jualan Rahmah and Sara aid on small traders who struggle to compete with markets offering subsidised goods, Amir Hamzah said there are various avenues available to support small businesses, including existing government schemes. "We encourage small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to explore these initiatives, which can help further stimulate and grow their businesses," he said. On July 22, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that all Malaysians aged 18 and above will receive a one-off RM100 assistance through their MyKad under the Sumbangan Sara programme.
