India builds road in Bhutan for strategic access near China border
India is strengthening its ties with Bhutan. Bhutan is close to the India-China border and faces challenges from China. India sees its partnership with Bhutan as important for this reason.DOKLAM STANDOFF In 2017, China tried to build a road to Jamferi Ridge in Doklam. The Indian Army stopped the road construction by launching Operation Juniper. Indian soldiers entered Doklam and stopped the Chinese soldiers. After a 72-day standoff, the Chinese Army withdrew.Later, China built infrastructure and helipads in Doklam and deployed troops in the area. Doklam is located near Bhutan and lies at the junction of Sikkim, Bhutan, and Tibet.PROJECT DANTAKIndian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi recently visited Bhutan and was briefed on the Haa Valley road. Five bridges have been built along the road, and it allows movement in all weather conditions. The road is part of BRO's Project Dantak.Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, Director General of BRO (DGBR), is on an official visit to Bhutan to review the project. He met King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tobgay, who praised BRO's role in Bhutan's development.The Rs 254 crore upgraded Confluence–Haa Road aims to improve transport, tourism, and logistics. BRO has been working in Bhutan since the 1960s. Its work increased after the Doklam standoff in 2017.- Ends

‘Every patriotic Indian has sought answers on China'
New Delhi: The Congress on Monday said every patriotic Indian has sought answers on China since the 2020 Galwan incident but the Modi government has chosen to obfuscate and hide the truth with its policy of 'DDLJ -- deny, distract, lie, and justify'. The opposition party also alleged that the Modi government is responsible for the biggest territorial setback India has faced since 1962, and accused it of pursuing 'normalisation' with a hostile China because of its cowardice and misplaced economic priorities. The Congress' attack on the government came on a day the Supreme Court censured Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his alleged derogatory remarks about the Indian Army during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. The apex court, however, stayed the proceedings initiated in the matter against Gandhi before a Lucknow court. The top court told Gandhi, 'How do you get to know that 2,000 sq km of Indian territory has been occupied by Chinese? Were you there? Do you have any credible material?' Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said ever since 20 brave soldiers were martyred in Galwan on June 15, 2020, every patriotic Indian has sought answers. 'Yet instead of providing answers, the Modi government for the past five years has chosen to obfuscate and hide the truth with its policy of 'DDLJ -- deny, distract, lie, and justify',' he said. In a post on X, Ramesh went on to ask a series of questions. 'Why did the Prime Minister give a clean chit to China saying 'Na koi hamari seema mein ghus aaya hai, na hi koi ghusa hua hai' on 19 June 2020, only four days after our soldiers heroically sacrificed their lives for the country in Galwan?' Ramesh said. 'Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi has said: 'We want to go back to the status quo of April 2020'. Does the withdrawal agreement of 21 October, 2024, take us back to the status quo?' he said. Are Indian patrols not required to take Chinese concurrence to access their Patrolling Points in Depsang, Demchok, and Chumar, whereas earlier they were able to freely exercise India's territorial rights, Ramesh added. Are Indian patrols not prevented from accessing their Patrolling Points in Galwan, Hot Spring, and Pangong Tso by 'buffer zones' that lie predominantly within the Indian claim line, he further asked. 'Was it not widely reported in 2020 that 1,000 sq km of eastern Ladakh had come under Chinese control, including 900 sq km in Depsang? Did the SP of Leh not submit a paper at the annual Director General of Police Conference in which he stated that India had lost access to 26 out of 65 Patrolling Points in eastern Ladakh?' Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh released from jail again, this time on a 40-day parole
Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, currently serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples, was granted a 40-day parole by the Haryana Government and released from the Sunaria prison in Rohtak Tuesday morning. Singh left the Sunaria prison early morning, and will stay at his Dera's headquarters in Sirsa during the period of his release. He was released on a 21-day furlough in April last time. In January, he was released on a 30-day parole a week before the Delhi Assembly elections, and stayed at the Dera's headquarters in Sirsa. In earlier instances, when he was out of jail, he remained at the Dera's ashram in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat. Paroles and furloughs given to him have often coincided with the elections in Haryana, Punjab, Delhi or Rajasthan. Several constituencies of these states, especially Haryana, are said to have a sizeable number of the Dera's followers. In August 2017, a Panchkula court found Singh guilty on two counts of rape and sentenced him to 20 years in prison. The court also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 15 lakh to each victim.
