Prince William and Kate 'eyeing up move' to historic castle with dark past

Prince William and Kate Middleton are understood to be considering a move from their three-bedroom home in Windsor after three years.
There's ongoing speculation that Prince William and Kate Middleton could be considering a house move from their current home in Adelaide Cottage after three years. However, its the intriguing history of the potential residence which has sparked conversation.
Adelaide Cottage is considered small in comparison to the size of the Wales family's previous full-time home, a grand apartment in Kensington Palace. Reports suggest they are seeking a larger space for their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
An insider has hinted according to reports in the Mirror, that the royals might be eyeing Fort Belvedere, a magnificent gothic revival mansion situated within Windsor Great Park.
Constructed in the 18th century, Fort Belvedere was the preferred royal dwelling of Edward VIII, who resided there both before his ascension to the throne and following his abdication to wed Wallis Simpson. This imposing castle was the location where the former king signed the documents that confirmed his notorious abdication in 1936.
The expansive grade II-listed property spans 59 acres and features an outdoor swimming pool and tennis court. These features are said to be a huge selling point to Kate and Charlotte, both avid sports enthusiasts.
Often referred to as The Fort, this country house also boasts a rose garden, walled garden, separate kitchen garden, large greenhouse, stables, two lakes, paddocks and three cottages for staff. The residence is accessible via a lengthy path and is encircled by a moat.
The grand residence was once the site of several cannons from the 1745 Jacobite rising, historically positioned along its battlements. Edward VIII is credited with saving the building, a favourite summer tea house of Queen Victoria, from neglect and introducing opulent amenities.
Following his departure, the estate stood mostly vacant until 1956 when Gerald Lascelles, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth, took up residence.
Initially a large mansion with 30 to 40 rooms, it's believed he downsized it to just eight bedrooms. The property was later leased in the early 1980s to Canadian retail magnate Galen Weston and his wife Hilary.
Under the Westons' tenure, a polo stud was established on the grounds, and they famously entertained Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, and Princess Caroline of Monaco during Hilary's 60th birthday celebrations in an expansive marquee adjacent to the house.
Mr Weston, whose fortune was estimated at £5.2 billion, passed away in 2021 at the age of 80, but his family has maintained their residence there, with the property remaining under the ownership of the Crown Estate.
A source with insider knowledge disclosed to the Mail on Sunday, "[The Waleses] feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial. This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis."
It's understood that William and Kate contemplated residing in the unoccupied Fort Belvedere before ultimately choosing Adelaide Cottage. It's believed that they deemed Adelaide Cottage more fitting due to its proximity to Queen Elizabeth, and their desire to provide a more grounded upbringing for their children.

The Chase star Mark Labbett 'wants contract changed' after gruelling filming schedule

The Chase star Mark Labbett has revealed that following his stint on Celebs Go Dating and the gruelling hours, there's one thing he's going to change in his TV contracts. Mark Labbett has revealed that he got 'frustrated' on the set of Celebs Go Dating amid the show's long filming hours, leading to him apologising to his co-stars for bursts of anger on set. ‌ The Chase star told Mirror that despite having spent 16 years on television, he found himself struggling with the demands of filming reality TV, which is much less structured than the quiz show he's used to. "I'm used to being in a pre-planned environment on The Chase, where timings are strict, but reality TV can go on for longer and the days end up ending later than you think," he explains. ‌ "For me, the one thing I found was that you need a social battery recharge, and as someone on the spectrum, that's something I really need," continues Mark. He previously shared that he believes he is on the autism spectrum but hasn't had a confirmed diagnosis. It comes after filming for the show was halted as Mark was hit on a health scare on set. ‌ Admitting that the long hours got the better of him, the trivia whiz - who is also known as The Beast - continues, "I got quite grumpy on set. I did apologise to everyone, but, in the future, I'd definitely have it in my contract that I need breaks to have a nap and recharge." ‌ "I'm very used to doing The Chase where it runs like clockwork, but coming into a location-based reality show where timing is a lot more flexible, like I said, I got moody. I'm also diabetic, so, I wear a glucose monitor and on one of the nights, my glucose level went off the scale," says Mark, as his co-star Kerry Katona interjects, "And Mark went off the scale too!" "Yeah, I did. And I did apologise to everyone afterwards, but, I realised that maybe that's happening in my personal life also - when I can lose it a little. So, that was a learning curve." The couple split in May 2024, just a week after celebrating their one year anniversary. P rior to his relationship with Hayley, Mark was married for seven years to Katie Labbett, and shares son Lawrence, who was born in 2018, with her. The former couple, who discovered they are second cousins years into the relationship, parted ways in 2020.

S Club star Jon Lee emotional after not dating for six years

S Club star Jon Lee has admitted that he hadn't dated for six years before joining the cast of Celebs Go Dating, and says that after over four decades, he finally feels confident in himself. The S Club 7 star says he hadn't been on a date for six years before joining the cast of Celebs Go Dating this summer, after being put off of dating. ‌ The S Club 7 star is appearing on the new series of the dating show, which starts next week, and says he's finally showing people a slice of who he really is. And as Mirror chats to him ahead of the show airing, Jon, 43, is feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. ‌ From nightmare dates to therapy sessions with dating experts Paul C Brunson, Anna Williamson and Dr Tara Suwinyattichaiporn, Jon gives us the lowdown... ‌ Hi, Jon! Are you excited to see yourself on Celebs Go Dating? I am. I've got some nerves, too, there was a lot of filming over a couple of months so I'm thinking, 'What did I say?, 'What did I do?' I'm nervous about what parts they're going to use, because you might go on a date for two hours and they only use three minutes, meaning things get lost. But I got a lot more out of it than I expected to. ‌ What made you want to do it? I hadn't dated in six years, I'm hopeless! So, I needed all the help I could get. But I came into it with a very open attitude, embracing the experience, I went for it 100% and I'm glad I did. How did you find the therapy sessions with the experts? ‌ That's the bit I enjoyed most. The experts hold a mirror to you and why you do certain things – you look at your past and things start to click. I got emotional and it was nice to let that out, it felt like a relief. I spoke about things I haven't spoken about before – to say them out loud was therapeutic. It was nice to see how much I'd grown throughout the experience. I don't think I need any more therapy because I am in a comfortable place. But it's always good to have a top-up every now and then, and check in with yourself every so often. What was your main takeaway from the show? ‌ If you're not fully happy with who you are, it's very difficult to ask someone else to be in love with you. It's unfair to do that. So, my takeaway is to make sure you're 100% happy in yourself before going for someone else. I'm so happy I'm now in a comfortable place, but I'm 43, it's taken me this long to be there and to be confident. Was it nice to show a raw side of yourself? Definitely. I've always been 'Jon from S Club' where you have to present yourself in a certain way and answer certain questions because of the band. So, to be 100% myself was a new thing for me and for the public to see. It was refreshing.

People 'always get compliments' on £25 Britney Spears' perfume

The pop star's 'sweet and feminine' perfume is currently half price at Boots Shoppers have declared there is 'nothing not to like' about a pop star's fragrance, which is currently available at Boots. The online-exclusive offer drops almost £25 off the price of the perfume which has kept fans for decades. Boots is currently running a deal that offers half-price across some of Britney Spears' fragrance collection, including Fantasy, which the store carries. The 50% reduction applies to all bottle sizes of the gorgeous pink perfume, including the 100ml edition, which typically sells for £49 but is now priced at £24.50. The health and beauty retailer's website characterises Fantasy as "alive with enchantment and rich with the thrill of the chase.", reports the Mirror. It combines red lychee, golden quince, and kiwi with jasmine petals, white chocolate, and sensual woods to create a "light, feminine scent." The fruity fragrance comes housed in a striking pink bottle adorned with Swarovski crystals. The original Fantasy has remained a fan favourite since its launch as one of Britney's initial fragrance collaborations in 2005. Subsequently, it has been reimagined with new variants, including Fantasy Twist, Circus Fantasy, and others—each featuring distinctive scent profiles. Similar celebrity fragrances can be found at other retailers, such as Katy Perry's "sweet and playful" Purr Eau de Parfum, available for £15.95 at Amazon, and Sabrina Carpenter's Cherry Baby EDP, available for £20.99 at Superdrug. However, the deal for the Toxic singer's fragrance is something customers have been praising for years - judging by the hundreds of positive reviews from Boots shoppers. One said: "This has been my favourite perfume for such a long time. The smaller one is perfect for your bag." Another added: "Perfect sweet floral smell and lasts all day. I have had this for years since it came out, love it." A third put: "I've tried quite a few Britney fragrances and I have to say I've liked all of them - and this one is no exception! It's really lovely and not too heavy for the daytime. Nothing not to like!" Yet, not all customers were satisfied. One claimed: "This was always my go to perfume but it does not smell like it used to, it's not as strong candied smell it's more a floral smell now that does not last." Another suggested: "This does not last long at all." A third also warned: "Not good at all. The smell does not stay at all!" And one more recently put: "This was always my go-to perfume but it does not smell like it used to. It's not [got] a strong candied smell, it's more a floral smell now that does not last." Despite these remarks, someone else described the perfume as "absolutely gorgeous," whilst a second shared: "This is one of my favourite scents. It's sweet and smells like candy. It lasts throughout the day, and I always get compliments with it."
