Teen dies in e-scooter crash
The crash tragic accident happened in the town of Mareeba, near Cairns, on Tuesday night.
A police spokeswoman told NewsWire, as of late Wednesday morning, the deceased male was yet to be identified.
Local media reports it is a teenager who has died.
The spokeswoman said the police believe there were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
The forensic crash unit is investigating.
The tragic incident is the latest electric scooter crash to rock the country and follows the release of a report last week from doctors and researchers in Queensland highlighting the 'significant risk' to children from e-scooters.
The report, published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health, analysed 176 child e-scooter injury cases that presented to Sunshine Coast University Hospital between January 2023 and December 2024.
The research found 71 per cent of cases were male, falls accounted for 78 per cent of crashes, while 13 per cent involved motor vehicles.
Helmet noncompliance was documented in 42 per cent of the presentations, 12 per cent involved doubling, and 36 per cent exceeded the 25km/h speed limit.
Further, fractures occurred in 37 per cent of cases, 18 per cent required computerised tomography scans and 11 per cent sustained life-threatening or potentially life-threatening injuries.

Tributes to 'devoted father' who died after crash
The family of a motorcyclist who died after a crash involving two cars have said he was a "devoted father" who had "cheeky charm and enthusiasm for life". Steven Morris, 38, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the crash in Alfreton Road, Underwood, Nottinghamshire, on Sunday and died a short time later, despite the efforts of emergency workers. Mr Morris's family described him as "a family man" who "touched so many lives". Nottinghamshire Police said officers were called just before 20:00 BST and issued an appeal for anyone who saw any of the vehicles involved - a Harley Davidson motorcycle, a Volvo V90 and a Bentley Brooklands - before the crash. In a statement, Mr Morris's family said: "We are so desperately heartbroken and devastated at the loss of our beloved Steven, known to those closest as Mo, who has been taken much too soon at the tender age of 38. "We were incredibly fortunate to have called him our Steven and he will be loved always. "We would like to thank all the emergency services and members of public present at the scene who helped Steven, it means a lot to know you were there." Det Con Andrew Fawcett, of the force's serious collision investigation unit, confirmed Mr Morris's family were being supported by specially trained officers as an investigation into the crash continued. "We know this has been a huge shock and very difficult time for Mr Morris's family as they try to come to terms with their loss," he added. Follow BBC Nottingham on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram. Teenager with ‘unhealthy interest' in knives guilty of 18-year-old's murder
A balaclava-clad teenager who had an 'unhealthy interest' in knives, and grinned before fatally stabbing an 18-year-old man through the heart with a Rambo-style knife, has been found guilty of murder. Charles Hartle, who was 17 at the time, carried out the 'utterly pointless killing' when he attacked Noah Smedley on a dark street in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, on the evening of December 28 last year, with the knife he kept hidden in his tracksuit bottoms. Hartle, of Station Road, Stanley, was found guilty of murdering Mr Smedley on Friday, after a two-week trial at Derby Crown Court, Derbyshire Police said. Prosecution counsel Adrian Langdale KC said that as Hartle moved towards Mr Smedley, he 'grinned or smiled before deliberately aiming for and stabbing him in the chest'. The court was told that Hartle and his friends had arranged to meet Mr Smedley, who arrived at the scene on an electric scooter and sold them cannabis. Mr Langdale said the defendant regularly carried a Rambo-style knife for 'the kudos and bravado' and to show others he was a 'big man'. Derbyshire Police said Hartle, who liked to go by the nickname Lil Cee, went to meet his girlfriend at a house party after stabbing Mr Smedley in the heart. Witnesses at the party reportedly saw him confess to her what he had done and produce the knife, which has never been recovered. Hartle then travelled to Derby city centre to distance himself from the scene, where Mr Smedley had been found by members of the public at about 8.20pm. He was pronounced dead just before 9pm. In the hours after the murder, Hartle disposed of his clothing, the knife, and his phone, before eventually handing himself in at Ilkeston police station. In a prepared statement given to police, Hartle said he accepted inflicting the injury on Mr Smedley but felt he had acted in self-defence. He said: 'There is a history to this, and Noah and I did not get on. He has, in the past, made numerous threats to me and made disparaging comments. He has threatened me with violence. 'I was petrified that he was about to lunge at me. In that split second, I instinctively lashed out with the knife I had, in self-defence.' Detective Constable Emma Barnes-Marriott, of Derbyshire Police, said: 'Noah was an unarmed teenager, who was simply meeting with friends on the night Charles Hartle decided to end his life. 'Noah did not threaten Hartle and showed nothing but friendliness towards him that evening, and yet he was brutally murdered. 'Charles Hartle is a callous and calculating young man, who has shown no recognition or remorse for taking another teenager's life. 'He carried a knife with the intention to use it, over what appears to be a petty disagreement that only he was aware of, and a sense of bravado. 'I'd like to thank Noah's family for their support during our investigation and the trial. 'No family should have to go through the ordeal of losing a loved one, especially at such a young age, and to have to relive their last moments at trial is an additional blow that Hartle could have spared them from. 'Instead, despite overwhelming evidence, he remained silent and refused to take responsibility for Noah's murder. 'I know that nothing will bring Noah back but hope that today's verdict has provided his family with some comfort that justice has been done.' Hartle will be sentenced at Derby Crown Court on August 22.

Fighter's shocking meltdown filmed on plane
Aaron 'Tex' Johnson threw a tantrum on the plane and at the airport Aaron 'Tex' Johnson isn't new to fighting. After all, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu expert makes his living as a mixed martial arts fighter. However, he's presumably new to fighting on airplanes, and his meltdown was captured on video. In videos posted to platforms like X, TikTok, and Instagram, Johnson is seen arguing with a Southwest Airlines flight attendant, and it is not going well. It's unclear what sparked the disturbance, but the fighter is seen yelling at the flight attendant about his bag. This quickly leads to a shouting match with fellow passengers. The flight attendant holds her ground, and the rest of the passengers are clearly on her side, joining her to yell at Johnson. The plane appears to be connected to the jet bridge because the fighter makes his way to the door as his fellow passengers gleefully shout,'Bye!' Instead of leaving, however, Johnson turns around and screams. At this point, the flight attendant begins to push Johnson off the plane as fellow crew members rush to assist her. Several large male passengers are also seen standing nearby, clearly signalling they are willing to assist the hard working flight crew if necessary. In another video posted to X, Johnson is being wheeled on a stretcher at the airport with a police escort. The officers remain calm as Johnson screams, 'I'm being treated like a Black person right now.' According to the New York Post, Johnson has since followed up with a post on Instagram Stories: 'For anyone trying to drag me down, it doesn't matter to me, I have the best friends.' He later followed up with a cryptic post that said: 'I never wanted to carry a gun Never used a weapon Been attacked by bats, knives and guns pulled I'm still here Karen's and b****es' It's currently unknown if charges were filed against Johnson or if he'll be welcome on future Southwest flights.
