Charlie Eastwood toasts ‘faultless' effort after podium finish at 24 Hours of Le Mans

The Gold-rated driver laid the foundations for third place at the twice-around-the-clock meeting as he completed half of the event distance in the No.81 Z06 GT3.R.
Starting from sixth place on a packed grid, Eastwood, Tom Van Rompuy and Rui Andrade kept in touch with the LMGT3 pack before breaking into the top three when darkness fell.
The charge continued as Eastwood lapped Circuit de la Sarthe and he became the new class leader around 5am French time, and despite the Corvette lacking straight-line speed, its pace through corners and ability to preserve its tyres better paid dividends.
Despite surrendering top spot and finishing 71 seconds behind the victorious LMGT3 Manthey Racing Porsche 911 of Ryan Hardwick, Richard Lietz and Riccardo Pera and 38.451 seconds in arrears of the AF Course Ferrari shared by Simon Mann, Francois Heriau and Alessio Rovera, Eastwood said he had no complaints with coming home in third.
'I am delighted with the podium,' said Eastwood, who now has three Le Mans 24 Hour podiums to his name.
'It was a tricky week all week for us as we struggled for straight-line speed which, at a track like Le Mans, tends to come in pretty handy, but it was probably one of the most faultless 24-hour races I have been a part of.
'There were no mistakes from the drivers' side, every pit-stop was perfect and there was not a single touch of damage on the car for the entire race, and those were the things that put us into contention for a podium place.
'It is my first podium in a Corvette – and what a place to have it. Hopefully, it is the first of many at Le Mans – and hopefully I will get even more chances to step even higher on it in future – but right now, I am absolutely busted.'
He added: 'Again, like most previous years, I ended up doing just under half of the race whereas the other two guys completed six hours each as their minimum driver time.
'So, I am pretty tired but extremely satisfied with our performance and the team's as a whole.'
Meanwhile, a retrospective time penalty by stewards at Rali de Castelo Branco cost Kris Meeke a fourth victory from five starts in the 2025 Portuguese Rally Championship.
The Dungannon man thought he had taken top spot – and maximum points – from Dani Sordo by 14.5 seconds only to be punished after he was found to be in breach of the rules.
The College of Sports Commissioners said he failed to adhere to the road book as per the International Sporting Code, saying the integrity of the course must always be respected.
'It is very tough to lose a rally like this,' said Meeke, who finished runner-up. 'However, I am very happy with the performance.
'The fight with Dani was excellent, he is one of the best drivers in the world on asphalt, so I really had to give it my all to stay ahead of him.'

While it was joy for Kinghorn, it was agony for his Scotland team-mate Jonny Gray who came on as a replacement in extra time for Bordeaux. Toulouse, who have now won a hat-trick of French titles, were 10 points clear with 11 minutes of normal time remaining but Bordeaux produced a superhuman effort to take the game into extra time. Guido Petti's converted try brought them to within three points of the holders and Maxime Lucu's late, late penalty tied things up at 33-all. Paul Pogba to take squad number worn by six Prem stars as return confirmed

Paul Pogba has confirmed his return to club football after nearly two years and the ex-Man Utd star will play for Ligue 1 side Monaco as he chases a recall to the France squad Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba will wear the number eight shirt at new club Monaco, it has been claimed. The French international has signed a two-year contract with the club, having been out of the game for nearly two years following a doping ban. Pogba, 32, left Juventus in late 2024 but didn't join another club before the end of the European season. Now, though, he has moved to the French Riviera for a shot at Ligue 1 and Champions League football. ‌ Monaco and Pogba confirmed the deal on Saturday in a video in which the player utters the words 'La Renaissance'. He joins a team who finished third in Ligue 1 last term, meaning they'll enter the Champions League at the league phase. ‌ He has joined a number of former Premier League players at Stade Louis II, including former Arsenal striker Flo Balogun and another ex-Gunners striker in Mika Biereth. However, there's set to be another Premier League sub-plot when it comes to his squad number. According to RMC Sport (via GFFN), Pogba will take the number eight shirt vacated by Libyan international Al-Musrati when his loan ends. It's a number which was once worn by Real Madrid and France star Aurelien Tchouameni, as well as a number of others familiar to English football fans. According to Transfermarkt, Youri Djorkaeff wore 8 for Monaco in the 90s - long before his Premier League spells at Boldon and Blackburn. In 1995-96 it was the turn of Sylvain Legwinski, who would later follow ex-Monaco boss Jean Tigana to Fulham. Ali Benarbia then had two seasons in the number eight shirt before leaving for Bordeaux in 1998. He would later move to England to join Manchester City, helping them win promotion to the Premier League in 2002. Fast forward to 2013, when Monaco splashed out on a number of big signings, and Joao Moutinho took the number. He kept the number in 2018, when Wolves came calling and offered him a Premier League opportunity. ‌ The following year, Youri Tielemens began the season with the number. He left for Leicester in January 2019, initially on loan, and it was Adrien Silva who ended up taking his number the following summer after moving in the opposite direction. Pogba isn't the only new arrival at Monaco this summer. Adi Hutter's side have also agreed a deal for Eric Dier, who will join on a free transfer when his Bayern Munich contract expires at the end of June. Latest on Lille's pursuit of Rangers star Hamza Igamane as talks CONTINUE – while Gers LOSE in closed doors friendly

LILLE are preparing to up the ante in their pursuit of Hamza Igamane. Reports on Friday claimed their interest had 'cooled' after Rangers set the asking price at £15million. Gers swooped for the Moroccan international in a deal worth just £1.7m last summer. Igamane hit 16 goals for the Ibrox side last season - including a famous winner against Celtic at Parkhead. His outstanding display against Nice in the Europa League caught the eye of clubs across Europe, with Lille, Marseille and Everton all put on red alert. Advertisement But with Jonathan David set to leave the Mastiffs this summer, Lille have moved first. It's claimed Igamane has already agreed terms with the French club, but as yet no official bid has been made. That could all change in the next 48 hours with Lille determined to secure the services of the Ibrox star. Cyriel Dessers is likely to follow Igamane out the door with the Nigerian striker on the brink of a move to AEK Athens. Advertisement Feyenoord have also been linked with last season's top scorer - but reports in Greece claimed last night that AEK are preparing their final push to land the front man. Gers could generate £20m from both sales, with boss Russell Martin set to move for top target Dor Turgeman. Rangers transfer special including Coady latest, why Turgeman move could be off & why Shankland's a no-brainer The Ibrox club are willing to meet Maccabi Tel Aviv's asking price of 5million euros with the striker keen on a move to Glasgow. But Martin has missed out on Peterborough winger Kwame Poku. Advertisement The 23-year-old, who scored 12 goals in 27 games, has opted instead for QPR. It's an area Martin desperately wants to strengthen following the departure of on-loan Vaclav Cerny. Current wingers Nedim Bajrami and Ross McCausland are two players who could find themselves surplus to requirements. Defender Conor Coady remains a target, with Martin continuing to track Croat forward Matija Frigan too. Advertisement Meanwhile, Martin's men suffered a defeat to The New Saints in a closed door friendly. The Welsh side ran out 1-0 winners in Glasgow against a Gers side that included Liam Kelly, James Tavernier and Robin Propper.
