Peek behind the curtains of the Fighting Irish football program
Those Notre Dame fans who need something to watch before training camp starts might want to tune into the "Here Come The Irish", a documentary about the 2024 Notre Dame football season that is streamable on Peacock.
Fighting Irish fans who feel the need to get fired up for the 2025 season will enjoy this look back on the Irish's 2024 campaign, from the uncertain optimism of training camp to the gut punch that was the loss to Ohio State in the national championship game.
Head coach Marcus Freeman is the most prominent figure, getting plenty of interview time, and the camera follows him to various off-field functions, especially in the first episode. Several players get to do interviews, with former quarterback Riley Leonard and former linebacker Jack Kiser -- both now in the NFL -- getting the most airtime. Kiser's family life even gets featured in one episode.
We see a lot of the Irish off the field, including a memorable trip to New York City, but the focus tends to be on the field. The practice field, that is. Much of the series centers around team meetings before practice, with Freeman speaking to the whole team, though we also see meetings with Freeman and his captains, as well as position-group meetings. Most of the B-roll is shot at practice on campus.
The doc is, for better or for worse, a bit of Notre Dame propaganda. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but some things are ignored or glossed over. For example, alum Manti Te'o comes to speak to the team, and there is no mention of the fake-girlfriend scandal that surrounded his time on campus.
While the doc may be clearly pro-Irish, it doesn't shy away from adversity such as the loss to Northern Illinois, injuries to key players like Benjamin Morrison, family tragedies, or the season-ending letdown. Freeman, Leonard, and Kiser are honest and transparent with their answers, though no one says anything too different from what they told the media in season. Nothing uttered by any player or coach will make news.
Still, there are interesting peeks behind the curtain, such as Freeman's halftime and post-game speeches during the NIU loss.
Freeman comes across the same way he does when doing a press conference or an on-field interview -- honest without being needlessly transparent. He sees what we're seeing when it comes to on-field play. He appears to be a good motivator -- his message is consistent, yet players don't seem to tire of it.
Leonard, meanwhile, comes across as a happy-go-lucky goofball who nonetheless understands his role as a team leader and quarterback at one of the nation's most-watched programs. Kiser is clearly a team leader, as well -- he's more serious than Leonard but still able to crack a smile or a joke.
Other players show a mixture of personality -- at times, it's clear these guys are still just college kids figuring things out. Other times, you see their off-field academic or career interests, and how they seem ready for the adult world, should they not make the NFL. And other times, it's pure football.
There are eight episodes, ranging from about 30 to 45 minutes in length. The first episode features Freeman heavily, and sets up the season -- and there's an appearance from legendary head coach Lou Holtz. Episode two focuses on captain choice, the third episode centers around the highs of winning at Texas A&M and losing to NIU at home, the fourth episode deals with the aftermath of the NIU loss and the fifth episode centers around the rash of key injuries that hit Notre Dame.
The sixth and seventh episodes center around the late-season playoff push and the playoff game against Indiana. The finale focuses on the playoff run and that disheartening ending.
"Here Come the Irish" is the type of sports documentary that will get die-hard fans pumped up, and casual and new fans will learn things about the program. Even long-time fans like this author learned a few things, mostly concerning phrases and chants the team uses at practice. The peek behind the curtain is always nice, though outside of some locker-room speeches, little is learned that fans didn't already know.
It would be nice if the show didn't shy away from darker chapters in Notre Dame history, and if there was any behind-the-scenes drama that didn't get reported on by the media, well, we don't really see it here. That said, the show doesn't gloss over the failure against NIU.
If you come for X and O breakdowns, team infighting, intersquad drama, or an unvarnished look at Notre Dame, you'll be disappointed. If you want to learn a bit about the players and coaches, even if what you see is sanitized, you'll be happy. If you want to see what Freeman says in halftime and post-game speeches, you'll be satisfied. And if you want to get pumped for the season, well, then this is for you.

Notre Dame football offers 4-star Florida 2027 defensive lineman, Santana Harvey

With Notre Dame football adding 2026 safety Nick Reddish on Friday, its is looking like that class is almost full and the focus will now be turned to the 2027 cycle. That proved true on Friday, as the Irish went to Florida and offered Santana Harvey, a 6-foot, 5-inch and 220-pound defensive lineman. He's considered one of the top players in the state, previously holding offers from teams like Oklahoma, Florida State, Michigan State and others. Harvey is ranked as the nation's No. 312 overall player in the 247Sports Composite, is coming off a sophomore season which saw him have 8.5 sacks, 16.5 tackles-for-loss and 60 total tackles. Those are extremely impressive numbers for a prospect who still has two more high school years left. While he has yet to make a visit to South Bend, according to John Garcia Jr. of Rivals, Harvey is working on scheduling a visit to see the Irish. Notre Dame has had very good success recruiting the state of Florida, as three of their 2026 commits hail from the state. They'll look to continue landing prospects from the Sunshine State, and Harvey is one of their next targets.

Justin Fields quietly winning over Jets teammates as leader on and off the field

Garrett Wilson got used to teammates approaching him in the Jets locker room this spring to talk about new quarterback Justin Fields. 'Guys come up to me and say, 'That's my guy.' I already know. It's been super cool. He's got a different way about him,' said Wilson, who played with Fields at Ohio State. 'He's more quiet when it comes to getting to know people. It's not going to be that first day, but when it does click it's like, 'Man, this dude is super cool, like super cool.' ' Fields spent the spring winning over his new Jets teammates and establishing himself as a leader. It comes with the job description of being an NFL quarterback, and Fields knows it. 'I kind of had a feeling when I got here, guys were looking for a leader to step up on offense, so I was glad to receive that role, and of course been pushing the guys each and every day to be our best and play up to our standard,' Fields said. 3 Jets quarterback Justin Fields answers questions from reporters at NFL football minicamp, Wednesday, June 11, 2025. AP But Fields is a much different leader than Aaron Rodgers, his predecessor at the position. Coach Aaron Glenn has praised the 'quiet confidence' Fields projects. There was nothing quiet about Rodgers. 'I take to him because he is authentic and he's himself,' Glenn said of Fields. 'It's one thing that players can pick out is someone that's fake, and there's nothing about him that's fake. So, I love everything about the player, I love everything about the way he carries himself.' Jets players are not outwardly comparing Fields and Rodgers, but something running back Breece Hall said this spring stood out. He mentioned Fields' age (26) and how that helps him relate to his teammates. Rodgers was the oldest player in the NFL last year and is now 41. You know, we can hang out on the weekends, and it's just been cool to be around. He's a good dude.' Fields organized off-field activities with his teammates to get to know them this spring and has embraced that part of the job. No one will care, of course, if he does not play well this season, but the Jets have been encouraged by what they saw from Fields this spring. The team decided to sign him to a two-year, $40 million contract hoping they can witness him turn his career around in a Jets uniform. 3 Jets quarterback Justin Fields (7) throws at minicamp in Florham Park, NJ. Bill Kostroun/New York Post There have been encouraging signs over the past two years. In his past 13 games — six with the Steelers last year and seven with the Bears in 2023 — Fields has completed 63.3 percent of his passes and thrown 10 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He has run 132 times for 651 yards and eight touchdowns in that span. 'It's just growth,' Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand said. 'Going through his career, just continuing to stack experience along with it, and then ultimately [he] ends up winning four games out of the six [in 2024]. You just see some of the things that are starting to develop in his game, and then you look at that and you go, 'That's pretty good. We can do some things with that.' And that's kind of I think where it started, and then, of course, all the other things that everybody talks about, that's real. Those things are real, and we're excited to get going with him.' 3 ets quarterbacks Justin Fields (7), Tyrod Taylor (2) and Brady Cook (4) run at minicamp in Florham Park, NJ. 'I mean, ever since he walked on campus with us at Ohio State, coming from Georgia, you sense the seriousness about him, the competitiveness,' Ruckert said. 'He's super athletic. But I think the biggest thing about him is his mental toughness. Nothing's going to rattle him. He's good for this team and this area, and he wants the pressure. He's built for it.'

Barkley entered with the longest odds to win the tournament of the entire 90-man field of play. Former NHL player and 2024 runner-up Joe Pavelski has the lead heading into Saturday with a score of 23, followed by Vinny Del Negro at 22. Steph Curry is third after a solid performance on day one, and the case can be made that he is the best active professional athlete golfer in the world. He did not participate in last year's event due to playing in the 2024 Summer Olympics, but the last time he entered this field in 2023, he took home the trophy with a score of 75.
