1 in 3 boys say revealing outfits are ‘asking for trouble'
A survey conducted by the University of Glasgow, which involved more than 13,000 pupils aged 11 to 18 across Scotland, has prompted calls for action to address misogynistic attitudes amongst teens and young adults.
The research, conducted across 37 secondary schools, revealed a significant divide between male and female pupils' views on gender, harassment and equality.

One in four boys said the term 'sexual harassment' didn't apply if their behaviour was meant as a joke – a view shared by just seven per cent of girls.
Half of the boys surveyed believed that 'overall, there are more things that boys are better at than girls,' despite 93 per cent saying they expected equal opportunities in life.
The study's five authors said their findings should be discussed in classrooms, much like the Netflix drama Adolescence, which highlights the harmful effects of social media on teenage relationships.
In a letter published in The Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, they wrote: 'Most boys do not hold these negative views, but there is an urgent need to address the fact that a sizeable minority do.'
Professor Kirstin Mitchell, who led the research, told The Times that the scale of the survey offers a 'general culture' snapshot behind more serious violence against women and girls.
She described the belief held by a third of boys that revealing clothing meant girls were 'asking for trouble' as 'particularly troubling'.

'That is the kind of attitude which is underlying when incidents of sexual harassment do happen,' she said.
The study also found 32 per cent of boys would judge a girl more harshly than a boy for having multiple sexual partners, compared to 12 per cent of girls.
More than four in ten boys agreed that 'boys who behave like girls are weak,' a view held by just 13 per cent of girls.
The study was carried out as part of Equally Safe in Schools, a Rape Crisis Scotland programme aimed at tackling gender-based violence.
It found that the results were similar across all of the institutions involved, regardless of location or socioeconomic backgrounds.

A Paisley beast has been jailed for five years after being found guilty of 'orchestrated and persistent' child sex abuse spanning over two decades. Twisted David Cardona was last month found guilty by a jury, following a trial at Paisley Sheriff Court, of the abuse of three youngsters. The jury found the 65-year-old unanimously guilty of using 'lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour' towards a boy aged under 13 between October 21, 1994 and October 23, 1994. Creepy Cardona got into the boy's bed while he was sleeping, laid next to him, attempted to pull his trousers down and, thereafter, performed a sex act on him. Cardona, of Westburn Avenue in the town, was also found guilty of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 16 on 'various occasions' between July 11, 2013 and August 20, 2018 by touching her private parts through her clothing. The court heard evidence Cardona would carry out these sexual assaults when the girl was sleeping or falling asleep. A witness told the jury: 'It was at night, he would lift her but place his hands at her pants.' The witness told the court how this had impacted the girl and added: 'When she told me, she was in pieces, she was crying; crying as if she was having a panic attack. 'After it happened, she distanced herself from him. 'It changed her, she stayed in her room after it happened, her hair would fall out, she started cutting her wrists.' Cardona was also found guilty of sexually assaulting another girl while she was under the age of 13. Between August 2019 and August 2021, the paedophile on 'various occasions' assaulted this youngster by placing his hand inside her trousers and sexually assaulting her. Yesterday, Sheriff Gillian Craig slammed Cardona stating: 'You are a predator of the most dangerous and devious sort. 'These offences are in a league of very serious crime. 'Your victims have already lived with the trauma and may live with the trauma for the rest of their lives. 'I've read the victim impact statements and what is clear is the impact is devastating, you robbed these children of their childhood.' Defence agent, Paul Keenan KC told the court there was 'little he could say in mitigation'. He added: 'Mr Cardona maintains he is innocent, he understands the jury's verdict and rejects that position. 'He is under no illusion of the severity and fully accepts the offences he's convicted of are exceptionally serious and there will ne no choice but to impose a custodial sentence.' Sentencing, Sheriff Craig added: 'I commend all of the victims for their bravery in coming to police. 'The ripples of what you've done will be felt through their families and loved ones. 'A custodial sentence is the only appropriate disposal.' Cardona was jailed for five years and, upon his release, he will be subject to licence for three years with conditions fixed by Scottish ministers. In addition, he was made subject to a non-harassment order for each of the three victims for 20 years and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order also for twenty years.

Edinburgh Fringe performer claims youths branded him a 'lady boy' during attack
Eddie Jen claims the male youths "beat him on the head", ripped off his bow and poured their drinks on him. An Edinburgh Fringe performer has claimed he was called a 'lady boy' by youths who allegedly attacked him on the Royal Mile. Eddie Jen, who uses he/she pronouns, is performing his show 'Seeking a PenPal For the End of the World' to the festival this year. Before it starts he was out handing out flyers but says he was accosted by a gang of thugs on Tuesday, July 29, reports Edinburgh Live. Eddie claims the male youths "beat him on the head", ripped off his bow and poured their drinks on him. Speaking out since the incident, Eddie said "it all happened so quickly". He added: "I was just so excited and happy to be in Edinburgh and to start with, I got great reactions. The youngsters aren't even a minority and they aren't speaking for everyone. "It all happened so quickly, they just came up to me and started saying 'are you a lady boy?' and 'are you a boy or a girl?' "I remained polite but as I went back to my corner to continue flyering, they hit my head, ripped off my bow and poured their drinks over me. It all happened within two minutes. "I was honestly in shock but I am so glad I was able to film it all and get people talking about this." The performer from San Francisco said she isn't letting the incident dampen her time in Edinburgh. Eddie has met a lot of kind people in the capital - including one man who assisted after the incident. She added: "There was one kind Scottish gentleman who came up to me to see if I was okay. "I really am an optimist and I am able to get the full Fringe experience right now. I mean so far, I have been harassed and done shows with no attendance so it seems I am getting everything bad out the way in the first week. "Last year I came to the Fringe to see if I was up to par and I absolutely loved it - the city is magical, there really is something about it. "I went out flyering again yesterday, I put on the same outfit and I kept going. I am just so excited to be here." Getting over 200,000 views, the clip has since gone viral and many people have offered their support to the performer. The video was captioned: "I was attacked in drag at Edinburgh Fringe 2025. It's my first solo show. "I was so excited to flyer and find an audience and then a group of young men began harassing me. They beat me on the head, ripped off my bow and poured their drinks on me." Almost 1000 comments have come in after the short clip was posted online. One person said: "Why is it always teenagers? Where are their parents? "I'm terrified of teenage boys in Edinburgh, they're just looking for trouble." A second said: "That's so bad a member of the public has to explain this is not how Scotland is and excusing their bad behaviour." "I'm so sorry this happened to you. I live in Edinburgh and unfortunately this type of stuff happens a lot. It's horrible but not all teenagers are like that", a third commented. Eddie's show started yesterday and will run at Just The Tonic at the Caves at 1.05pm until August 24. ‘It's his safe place': searching for Tommy Robinson in Tenerife
'As far as I am aware, he is on mainland Spain,' said Barry Armstrong, a convicted fraudster and longtime friend and benefactor of Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, better known as Tommy Robinson. It was difficult to fit with what the staff at Robinson's favourite breakfast place in Costa Adeje, in southern Tenerife, had said just that morning. 'He was in here yesterday,' a member of the waiting staff said of Robinson. Neither did it quite tally with Armstrong's own Facebook postings. 'Have you seen your mate we aren't supposed to talk about on Facebook?' a friend asked of Armstrong. The response was a thumbs up emoji from the retired businessman from Newcastle. But Armstrong, speaking by his Bentley car outside his whitewashed villa, wearing only his underpants, said he had nothing to hide. 'I did not know he is here,' Armstrong said. 'Nobody's told me that. The girl I spoke to, she said: 'No, he's in mainland Spain'. Maybe when he comes out here, he might see me once, maybe twice, no more than twice.' Tenerife was Tommy Robinson's safe place, said Nick Lowles, a biographer of the far-right activist. It was where he ran to in 2020 as 'his life was spiralling out of control' before a very expensive libel trial over his false claims against a 15-year-old Syrian refugee. The address he gave to court then was a 10-bedroom villa in the south of the island, described as a 'private haven of prestige'. The largest Canary island emerged again this week to be Robinson's bolthole of choice in a moment of peril, although friends insist there was nothing untoward about the timing of his trip. Robinson had been filmed by a fellow passenger getting on to a shuttle bus at Tenerife South airport after taking the 5.55am Ryanair flight from Stansted on Tuesday. Just hours earlier, the Met police had issued a statement saying they wished to question a 42-year-old man, understood to be Robinson, over an alleged assault the previous evening. Mobile phone footage had spread on social media of Robinson pacing close to a prone body at London St Pancras station. Robinson was heard telling concerned onlookers: 'You saw him, he came at me.' The injured man was discharged from hospital on Wednesday. Speaking on Friday, Armstrong said he had first met Robinson 'five or six years' ago at a restaurant through 'a mate of mine'. The friend in question was Lutz Bachmann, the leader of the Patriotische Europäer gegen die Islamisierung des Abendlandes (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West, or Pegida movement), a far-right German political organisation that hit the headlines a decade ago after its mass marches in Dresden. Bachmann has 22 convictions in Germany, including for drug trafficking, tax evasion and child support offences. He has called African refugees 'gangs of rapists' and 'throat cutters'. He was banned from entering the UK in 2018 on the grounds that his presence was 'not conducive to the public good'. Bachmann moved to Tenerife eight years ago and, with Armstrong, they appear to have formed something of a support network. In his biography of Robinson, Lowles wrote that it was Armstrong who helped fund a campaign bus in 2019 during his failed attempt to get a seat in the European parliament. Armstrong said the media told lies about Robinson, but then his own record is patchy. He was convicted of printing money 'in the 70s, 80s', he confirmed. He also served two months in HMP Brixton after being convicted at Southwark crown court in 2000 for having control of counterfeit share certificates for blue chip UK companies and drafts in the name of an international bank. 'I could have appealed that and got out of it,' Armstrong said. Not that prison proved a chore. 'Loved it,' he said, 'made some lovely friends there. But getting back to Tommy, I swear to God I didn't know he was here.' Armstrong said he usually stayed in a 'posh hotel' on the coast and not with him, and would work out at a gym in a shopping mall. Bachmann had not seen Robinson either, he further claimed. 'I spoke to him yesterday and he said he hadn't,' he said. 'I said: 'Is Tommy over?' And he said: 'He's not.' He would tell me. We are mates. Then I heard from somebody else that he is on mainland Spain. It's a mystery to me'.
