ground staff. Sheoran took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to defend Singh's actions and criticised airline policies.
In his post, Sheoran alleged that airlines arbitrarily charge passengers for hand baggage, stating, 'Airlines are cutting costs by reducing ground staff and allowing bags heavier than 7 kg as cabin luggage. Then suddenly, when they want to make money, they start charging extra. You can't just charge arbitrarily. I feel he was absolutely justified. Airlines today behave like crooks. Someone is bound to explode. Only the person on the scene knows the real situation.'

Another user claiming to be a veteran shared CCTV footage that, according to him, shows the officer being denied boarding by IndiGo staff at the gate. 'How can a passenger be denied boarding when he holds a valid boarding pass?' he questioned.

A third veteran recounted the incident in more detail, alleging the officer was travelling urgently on personal leave and had only a small cabin bag weighing around 8–9 kg. 'The bag was cleared at the check-in counter without issue. But at the boarding gate, 4–5 SpiceJet staff suddenly became aggressive about the bag's weight. Despite the officer explaining his situation and even discarding clothes to reduce weight, the staff escalated the situation. One staff member even mocked him, saying, 'Aaj army wala fansa hai.' It was clear they saw an opportunity to intimidate or extract a fine,' he claimed.

However, many users on X criticised the justification being offered for the officer's actions.
'So you're justifying breaking someone's back over excess baggage charges? Simply wow,' one user responded.
Another wrote, 'You can't carry 16 kg as hand baggage. No airline allows this—not even in First Class.'
A third said, 'Col Sahib, please don't justify the unacceptable behaviour of a serving officer. Physically attacking someone, especially someone likely weaker, is cowardice. It's wiser to apologise than to justify violence.'

Fact check: Did Pakistan violate ceasefire along LoC? Here's what the truth is...
New Delhi: Several reports talked about a possible ceasefire violation along the Line of Control. However, as now clarified from the official sources, the reports were fake. Earlier, official sources in Jammu said the Pakistan Army had on Tuesday evening indulged in 'unprovoked' firing on forward Indian posts along the LoC, prompting strong retaliation by the Indian Army. 'There have been some media and social media reports regarding ceasefire violation in Poonch region. It is clarified that there has been no ceasefire violation along the LoC. Please avoid spreading unverified information,' the Army said in a statement here. The exchange of small arms firing between the two sides continued for nearly 15 minutes in the Mankote sector but there was no immediate report of any casualties, the sources had said, adding it was the first instance of ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor. Indian and Pakistani militaries engaged in intense clashes between May 7 and 10 after India launched missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border under Operation Sindoor to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. The border clashes, however, died down after the two countries reached an understanding. At least 28 persons were killed in Pakistani shelling, missile and drone attacks along the LoC in J-K with 13 of these deaths reported in Poonch district alone. (With inputs from agencies)

Catholic Sabha demands justice for nuns arrested in Chhattisgarh
Mangaluru/ Udupi: Hundreds of citizens, social activists, and religious leaders gathered outside the Mini Vidhana Soudha on Monday, under the aegis of the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh, to demand justice for two Catholic nuns and a tribal youth arrested in Chhattisgarh under dubious charges. They stood in solidarity with Sister Preethi Mary and Sister Vandana Francis—both from Kerala—and Sukaman Mandavi of Narayanpur, arrested on July 25 at Durg Railway Station on alleged charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion of three tribal women. Santosh D'Souza, president of the Catholic Sabha, delivered the opening remarks. Rophy D'Costa, former president and PRO of the Catholic Sabha, delivered the keynote address, underscoring the increasing intolerance and misuse of legal systems to target marginalised communities. Sr. Severine Menezes, former president of Conference of Religious India (CRI) Mangalore, said, "Christian institutions serve the most vulnerable—with education, healthcare, and social upliftment. To accuse us of coercion is to attack every person who selflessly serves." Rev Fr Dominic Vas, present CRI president and parish priest of St Mary's Church, Bikarnakatta, said, "We hold the Bible in one hand and the Constitution in the other. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo We are patriots—not fanatics. Yet the sisters were quickly arrested. This is not justice. We demand that Jyothi Sharma face charges for filing a false, malicious complaint." The demonstration was also joined by former MLA JR Lobo, clergy members, and religious sisters—symbolising a united, intergenerational stand against rising hostility. A massive protest was held on Monday near the Ajjarakadu Martyrs' Memorial in Udupi, organised under the leadership of the Catholic Sabha of Udupi, in collaboration with various supporting organisations. The protest condemned the wrongful arrest and inhuman treatment of Christian nuns in Chhattisgarh based on false allegations.

23 Palamu undertrials ‘enlarged on bail'
Daltonganj: Twenty-three undertrial prisoners (UTP) were 'enlarged on bail' between July 15 and 30 from their respective trial courts in Palamu, following recommendations by an undertrial review committee (UTRC). UTRC comprises the principal district and sessions judge, deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, jail superintendent, and secretary of the district legal services authority (DLSA). The secretary of the Palamu DLSA, Rakesh Ranjan, said, " A total of 24 cases of the undertrials lodged in the Daltonganj central jail were taken up during the July 15 meeting of the UTRC. Twenty-three were enlarged on bail, while one case is pending." The cases pertained to the undertrials, who have served half of the maximum period of punishment specified for the offence for which they were sent to judicial custody, he added. When asked if this relief of bail is available to first-time offender serving as an undertrial prisoner, the DLSA secretary, quoting section 479 of the BNSS, said, "A first-time offender is one who has never been convicted of any offence in the past. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, play this game for 1 minute Navy Quest Undo Such a first-time offender shall be released on bail by the court if the offender has undergone detention for the period extending up to one third of the maximum period of the imprisonment specified for such an offence. " According to the India Justice Report 2025, undertrial prisoners make up around 70% of the total prisoners in the jails across India. The Daltonganj central jail has on an averageover 900 prisoners, out of which the number of undertrials is 34%. Court sources said the UTRC tries to help decongest the jail by shedding off the eligible undertrials to walk out on bail. Court sources said that if anyone 'jumps bail', then he/she will face serious consequences of various nature.
