Key initiative, strategies outlined On the sidelines of the gathering, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and the attendees listened to a talk delivered by Her Excellency Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Development, about the 'Year of the Community' initiative launched by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Her Excellency outlined the ministry's key initiatives and strategies under the initiative, emphasising that it represents a remarkable opportunity to strengthen social cohesion and empower individuals from all segments of society to actively participate in the development journey. She highlighted how the initiative has become a comprehensive federal movement being implemented by various ministries and federal institutions in alignment with the President's vision of transforming the initiative into a national mission.Her Excellency emphasised that His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, serves as a genuine role model embodying the values of the 'Year of the Community.' She noted that this is clearly reflected in novel projects and initiatives such as 'Hewi Dubai,' the 'Community Development Fund,' and the 'Smart Buildings Policy.'Her Excellency highlighted the Ministry's efforts in bringing about a profound transformation through such initiatives. She noted that, through partnerships with Nafis and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, more than 3,800 beneficiaries have gained employment, significantly improving their quality of life and that of their families.Regarding the strengthening of public welfare systems in the UAE, Her Excellency stated that the necessary legislative environment and a financial frameworks have been established to support sustainability and innovation. Today, there are 842 public welfare organisations serving the community, with the involvement of 160,000 members and employees.
Her Excellency noted that the UAE currently offers 70 places of worship for non-Muslims, enabling them to practice their customs and rites in an environment characterised by mutual respect and harmony, attesting to the country's abiding values of tolerance and oneness.
Integrated packageHer Excellency added that the Ministry has launched an integrated package of programmes aimed at engaging national cadres, senior citizens, and people of determination to take part in impactful projects that serve the community and contribute to building a cohesive society. Additionally, she highlighted a number of innovative initiatives launched in collaboration with local and federal entities as well as the private sector, all focused on promoting community sustainability and enhancing individual well-being.Her Excellency reiterated the importance of collective efforts amongst individuals and institutions, noting that the 'Year of the Community' reflects the leadership's vision of placing people at the heart of all development initiatives, by building bridges of understanding and solidarity, and supporting community initiatives that strengthen family bonds, national identity, and social cohesion.Concluding the talk, she emphasised that empowering the community is not a temporary goal, but rather a sustainable approach adopted by the UAE as part of its strategic vision. The Ministry, she said, will continue to support and empower all segments of society through clear action plans and effective partnerships to ensure a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.On the sidelines of the gathering, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed also welcomed Sheikh Saeed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and Reem Adel Ahmed Al Zarouni, the winners of the Arab Reading Challenge in the UAE. His Highness congratulated the winners for their outstanding achievement, emphasising that reading provides the perfect foundation for shaping great minds and that the sons and daughters of the UAE continue to excel in enriching new areas of thought and knowledge, just as they do in innovation and science.His Highness noted that the winners would serve as great role models for a new generation that is driven by the profound understanding that knowledge opens the path to leadership, and that promoting a love of reading is an investment in the nation's future.

The session highlighted His Highness's forward-looking philosophy and his vision for anticipating the future. Dr. Jarrar cited His Highness's statement: "The future does not wait. The future can be designed and built today." He emphasised the role of leadership in transforming visions into tangible achievements and motivating individuals toward creativity and excellence. Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Mazrooei, Board Member of the MBRL Foundation, emphasised that this initiative reflects the library's commitment to promoting reading and intellectual development among the nation's youth, contributing to the creation of a creative and knowledgeable society capable of facing future challenges. He stated that encouraging armed forces recruits to read helps empower them with knowledge and prepares them to become effective leaders in the future. Since its launch in April 2023, the initiative has reached a quarter of a million beneficiaries, with the library donating 80,000 books to more than 200 institutions and schools. The library is also inviting publishers and cultural organisations to donate books in support of this initiative. A report last year says many achievements have been logged by it and it has achieved many milestones during the period. They have contributed to consolidating its position as a prominent cultural and knowledge hub of the UAE. Since its inauguration, it has attracted nearly 1.5 million visitors of different age groups and nationalities. The library has also witnessed a significant increase in the number of books added to its collection, with more than 225,300 new Arabic books being included, with approximately 54,000 new books being in non-Arabic languages. It has organised nearly 500 diverse events, including cultural, scientific, arts, and literary commemorations, for different age groups, in both Arabic and English. They included a series of workshops, seminars, literary evenings, and art exhibitions. MBRL welcomed more than 200 high-level official and diplomatic delegations from inside and outside the UAE. The visits were to foster cultural ties and knowledge cooperation between the UAE and other countries and to contribute to the exchange of expertise and knowledge.

In an exclusive interview with Aletihad on the sidelines of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's visit to Hungary, Péter Szijjártó said his country always regarded cooperation with the UAE as strategically significant. 'The visit of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in January to Abu Dhabi has given a total new impetus to the relations. 'Since then, we have been witnessing a significant progress - particularly in the growing interest of UAE investors in Hungary and the intensification of trade between the two nations.' UAE investors have shown strong interest in sectors such as healthcare, real estate, energy, and tourism, he said. On the trade front, Hungary has exported more than 900 tonnes of cheese, 15 tonnes of pharmaceutical products, and 18 tonnes of honey to the UAE since January, the Foreign Minister said. Moving to broader trends, the Hungarian Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of adapting to the global technological transformation. 'We understand that the global economy is going through a huge technological revolution. This revolution is being built around the usage of AI and digital applications, so whoever is going to be the quickest and the most effective in utilising AI and digitalisation will be the successful actor in global politics and the global economy in the future. The UAE has been performing very well in these strategic sectors.' He added that the UAE's expertise in the tech sector is an asset for Hungary as it seeks to accelerate its own development. The UAE has always embraced the trends of the times – from the era of pearling to oil, and now to a diversified economy, the Foreign Minister said. 'Economic diversification gives us an opportunity to collaborate. We are also working to transition from a production-driven economy to one that is driven by research and development. For that, we need advanced technological capabilities and rapid adoption of digital and AI solutions – areas where the UAE is a global leader.' The Foreign Minister also pointed to the potential of a free trade agreement with the GCC countries, calling it key for future growth. Highlighting Hungary's investor-friendly climate, he said: 'We offer the lowest corporate tax rate in the European Union, with a single-digit corporate income tax. Hungary also provides a strategic location, and our 'one-stop shop' service for foreign direct investment makes it easy and efficient for investors to manage operations.' He added: 'We offer a wide range of incentives to investors, making Hungary an attractive destination.' The Minister emphasised Hungary's policy of economic neutrality and its proactive approach to attracting investment. 'We aim to bring the world's biggest companies to Hungary. We are heavily investing in creating a world-class business environment.' Looking ahead, he said: 'We look forward to welcoming more UAE investments. Investors from the UAE can count on the full support of our government and benefit from Hungary's favourable business climate.' Turning to regional and international developments, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed Hungary's support for the UAE's global peace campaign and its role as a stabilising force in the Middle East. We all know that instability in the Middle East can pose serious global security risks.' CDA launches flagship initiative to embed volunteerism across all segments of Dubai society
20 July 2025 17:32 DUBAI (ALETIHAD) As part of its efforts to strengthen civic engagement and foster a culture of giving, the Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai has announced the launch of the 'Volunteerism Awareness and Engagement' initiative aims to deepen public understanding of volunteerism and empower individuals across all age groups to play an active role in Dubai's development journey, aligned with the objectives of the 'Year of Community'.The project highlights the concept of volunteering, the ecosystem that supports it, and the rights and responsibilities of volunteers. It also encourages participation across all segments of society and serves as a comprehensive platform for individuals to generate measurable social impact, either through field-based contributions or by enhancing their leadership capacities in the volunteer has recorded a total of over one million volunteer hours in 2024, a milestone that underscores both heightened public awareness and strong institutional to statistics from CDA's Volunteerism Department, nearly 59,000 volunteers are now registered on its platform.
