VITB wraps up week-long FDP
Bhimavaram: The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Vishnu Institute of Technology (Autonomous) (VITB) here in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University College of Engineering, JNTU-Kakinada organised week-long Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on 'Modern Trends and Technologies in Mechanical Engineering' from June 16 to 20.
Distinguished speakers including Dr M Ravi Sankar (IIT Tirupati), Dr P Vamsi Krishna (NIT Warangal), Dr T Babu Rao and Dr T Karthikeya Sharma (NIT-AP), Dr SVAR Sastry (HBTU Kanpur), Dr P Sudhakar Rao (NITTTR Chandigarh), M Sridhar (TCS Engg Services), M Lakshmi Kanth (BHEL Vizag) delivered expert sessions on advanced topics such as Machine Learning in Metal Deposition, Compact Heat Exchangers, Hybrid Machining, AI in Manufacturing and Environmental Sustainability.
The FDP was jointly coordinated by Prof Dr D Linga Raju, UCE, JNTUK and Dr K Anupama Francy, Associate Professor, VITB, reflecting the strong academic partnership between the two institutions.
Principal Dr M Venu and Vice-Principal Prof M Srilakshmi of VITB also attended the valedictory session.

Engg faculty urged to broaden knowledge
Bhimavaram: To further advance technical education, faculty members should study key aspects of other engineering disciplines, not just limit themselves to their core courses, stated Dr GVS Sastry, prominent educationist and Adjunct Professor at JNTU-Kakinada. He made these remarks at the inauguration of a five-day faculty development programme (FDP) titled 'Synthesis and Characterisation of Ultrafine Grained Materials and Composites' on the college premises here. The programme, held jointly by the Mechanical Engineering Department of JNTUK College of Engineering and the Mechanical Engineering Department of SRKR Engineering College, commenced Monday morning at the Mechanical Engineering Seminar Hall. Dr K Suresh Babu, head of Mechanical Engineering, presided over the event. Addressing the gathering, Dr Sastry emphasised that prioritising FDPs and workshops provides opportunities for engineering faculty to acquire additional knowledge, a fact every faculty member should recognise . College Director Dr M Jagapathi Raju highlighted that modern engineering products often combine components from various disciplines like civil, electrical, mechanical, and electronics. He stressed the vital need for faculty to study subjects from other departments in light of this trend. College Principal Dr KV Muralikrishnam Raju noted that joint FDPs by university colleges, universities, and autonomous colleges greatly benefit faculty. He added that the new education policy also emphasises such initiatives. On this occasion, Dr K Suresh Babu informed that approximately 70 faculty members have registered for the five-day FDP. He expressed gratitude to the JNTUK Vice-Chancellor for providing the opportunity to host the FDP. GITAM-NIT-Warangal launch programme in AI to train educators
GITAM Deemed to be University in collaboration with the Electronics & ICT Academy, NIT Warangal, inaugurated a faculty development programme (FDP) on 'AI Innovations in Data Science and Computer Vision,' on Monday, according to a release issued on Tuesday. The FDP, held under the aegis of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), aims to equip faculty, researchers, and industry professionals with a deep understanding of both foundational and advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. The programme is designed to cover emerging domains such as Generative AI, Explainable AI, and AI applications, in Computer Vision, with emphasis on real-world use-cases and interdisciplinary applications. The inaugural session featured Prof. J. Ravi Kumar from NIT Warangal, a renowned expert in Machine Learning Algorithms, Control Systems, and Digital Signal Processing, as the chief guest. In his address, Prof. Kumar emphasised the urgent need for academia to integrate AI and Machine Learning (AIML) into mainstream curricula, to promote cross-disciplinary research, and prepare students for a data-driven and AI-powered future. He also highlighted the transformative impact of AI, ML across industries, the growing demand for skilled professionals, and the responsibility of academia in shaping ethical and impactful AI innovations.

Visakhapatnam: Focusing on 'AI innovations in data science and computer vision', a faculty development programme (FDP) was organised here on Monday. The programme was designed to cover emerging domains such as generative AI, explainable AI, and AI applications in computer vision, with an emphasis on real-world use-cases and interdisciplinary applications. In his address at the inaugural session, expert in machine learning algorithms, control systems, and digital signal processing, Prof J Ravi Kumar from NIT Warangal stressed on the urgent need for academia to integrate AI and Machine Learning (AIML) into mainstream curriculum, foster cross-disciplinary research and prepare students for a data-driven and AI-powered future. Organised by GITAM in collaboration with the Electronics and ICT Academy and NIT Warangal, the FDP, the event, was aimed at equipping faculty, researchers and industry professionals with a deep understanding of both foundational and advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. It was held under the aegis of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Key contributions to the FDP came from G Lakshmeeswari, head of the department of computer science engineering, and K Naveen Kumar, head of AI and data science. Both highlighted the importance of faculty engagement in understanding and exploring new frontiers in AI. FDP coordinator M Rajamani shared that the programme focused on technical training, encouraging collaborative discussions on the current landscape and future directions of AI in sectors like healthcare, education and manufacturing.
