FDP on ‘AI innovations in data science' held
Visakhapatnam: Focusing on 'AI innovations in data science and computer vision', a faculty development programme (FDP) was organised here on Monday.
The programme was designed to cover emerging domains such as generative AI, explainable AI, and AI applications in computer vision, with an emphasis on real-world use-cases and interdisciplinary applications.
In his address at the inaugural session, expert in machine learning algorithms, control systems, and digital signal processing, Prof J Ravi Kumar from NIT Warangal stressed on the urgent need for academia to integrate AI and Machine Learning (AIML) into mainstream curriculum, foster cross-disciplinary research and prepare students for a data-driven and AI-powered future.
Organised by GITAM in collaboration with the Electronics and ICT Academy and NIT Warangal, the FDP, the event, was aimed at equipping faculty, researchers and industry professionals with a deep understanding of both foundational and advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. It was held under the aegis of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Key contributions to the FDP came from G Lakshmeeswari, head of the department of computer science engineering, and K Naveen Kumar, head of AI and data science.
Both highlighted the importance of faculty engagement in understanding and exploring new frontiers in AI.
FDP coordinator M Rajamani shared that the programme focused on technical training, encouraging collaborative discussions on the current landscape and future directions of AI in sectors like healthcare, education and manufacturing.

1,200 students graduate at CMRIT's 22nd convocation
CMR Institute of Technology (CMRIT) celebrated its 22nd graduation day, conferring degrees on 1,200 engineering graduates from the class of 2024–25 across various disciplines on Saturday. The ceremony honored academic toppers and student achievers in sports and entrepreneurship. Principal Sanjay Jain in his welcome address highlighted institutional milestones over the past year. Tristha Ramamurthy, provost of CMR University, administered the Graduation Oath. Chief guest Prashanth Prakash, founder of Accel India and co-founder of Unboxing BLR Foundation, urged graduates to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship, especially in AI-led sectors such as agriculture, defense, and IT, to contribute to a 'Viksit Bharat' focused on inclusive growth. Guest of honour K.C. Ramamurthy, chairman of the CMR Group and former Rajya Sabha MP, congratulated graduates and emphasised lifelong learning. Entrepreneurial student Devesh shared his startup journey, crediting faculty mentorship, while alumnus Nithin Kushalappa received the Silver Jubilee Alumni Excellence Award 2025 for his acclaimed book Dakshin. Digital power push: Centre sets up task force to build India Energy Stack, aims seamless data access for utilities and consumers
AI image The Ministry of Power on Saturday announced the formation of a task force to develop the India Energy Stack (IES)—a unified digital public infrastructure aimed at transforming India's power sector with secure, standardised, and interoperable systems. Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the IES will be instrumental in integrating renewable energy, boosting DISCOM efficiency, and ensuring transparent, future-ready power services, PTI quoted. 'There is an urgent need for developing robust DPI in the power sector to manage the country's rising demand, ensure grid stability, and empower consumers. What Aadhaar did for identity and UPI achieved for digital payments, the India Energy Stack will accomplish for the power sector—unlocking seamless, secure, and consumer-centric energy services for every citizen,' he said in an official statement. The ministry said the IES is part of its broader strategy to address the sector's fragmented digital systems as India moves towards a $5 trillion economy and net-zero targets. The IES will offer unique IDs for consumers, assets, and transactions; enable real-time, consent-based data sharing; and support open APIs for system integration, innovation, and market access, the agency reported. To operationalise this vision, a 12-month proof-of-concept (PoC) will be rolled out to pilot real-world use cases in collaboration with selected utilities. This includes the Utility Intelligence Platform (UIP)—an analytics-driven, modular tool based on IES—meant to help utilities, policymakers, and consumers with real-time insights and smarter energy management. A dedicated task force comprising experts from the technology, power, and regulatory domains has been constituted to guide development, pilot implementation, and national scale-up of the stack.
