Welsh DJ, 24, on 'amazing' job in Zante left in coma after horrific accident
Welsh DJ, 24, on 'amazing' job in Zante left in coma after horrific accident Kai Roberts, from Pembrokeshire, has been left fighting for his life after a quad bike accident on the party island and his girlfriend, who was overseas with him, has spoken out (Image: Kya Gillane-Heywood ) A tragic quad bike incident on the Greek island of Zante has left a young Welsh DJ in a coma after sustaining severe head injuries. Kai Roberts, 24, from Pembrokeshire has been put in a dire situation following the accident over the weekend. His partner, Kya Gillane-Heywood, who accompanied him to Greece, is reeling from the shock and has since taken action to support Kai through crowdfunding. Expressing her dismay from the holiday destination to The Mirror, she said: "It is horrible. It is weird because we are all still in shock so it doesn't feel real but at the same time it is just crazy because it is so real if that makes any sense? I don't know how to describe it." Back home, Kai holds a full-time position at a dairy factory and spins tunes as a DJ on weekends. He had embraced what was described as an "amazing opportunity" to spend the summer as a resident DJ at Ikon club in Zante, warming up for acts including Tom Zanetti. The thrill of his new gig came to an abrupt halt after an unfortunate turn of events last weekend. His family are desperately worried about him (Image: Kya Gillane-Heywood ) Kya shared the circumstances surrounding Kai's injury, saying: "It was Sunday and it happened around 5pm. They were out on the quads and obviously then they had the accident... Article continues below "One of the girls is out here with me, she found out and I didn't have my phone with me at the time. She came and found me and told me so I rang the other boy he was with to see what was going on. "At that point they didn't think it was as serious. It turned out when he got to the medical centre, they transferred him straight to the hospital and they did a CT scan and he had a bleed on the brain." Kai has been in Zante since June 1 and was expecting to return on July 1, but a severe incident resulted in him being placed into an induced coma for medical transport to the mainland of Greece. He's currently under intensive care with neurosurgeons attending to him. The accident took place after the quad bike, holding both Kai and his friend, hit with a wall. His pal escaped with minor injuries like cuts, bruises and swelling but the extent of Kai's fate is yet to be fully revealed. Kya Gillane-Heywood and her boyfriend Kai Roberts (Image: Kya Gillane-Heywood ) The latest information Kya received indicates that Kai is still comatose without any change for better or worse. As his condition remains unchanged, family members, who have rushed to Greece to support him, are desperately hoping for promising developments. In response to the situation, his girlfriend has initiated a fundraiser which has swiftly garnered over £5,000. Explaining the necessity for the funds, she remarked: "Kai has a lot of friends everywhere because he is an amazing person and everyone loves him. "We are not sure if the insurance will cover him and that is not what we have been sorting at the minute so the cost to his family coming out to be with him. "Potentially medical costs because when he does recover, which hopefully he will, he will not be able to work. So it will support him and his family." Article continues below Toby Ellis, the station manager at Pure West Radio where Kai hosts a house music show, shared his thoughts on the tragic event: "It's been an incredibly difficult 24 hours for all of us at Pure West Radio as we come to terms with the news about one of the PWR Dance Family DJs, Kai Roberts, who has suffered a serious head injury following a quad bike accident in Zante yesterday." Discussing a fundraising event set to take place at various clubs on Saturday, 26th July, he further commented: "This is the first time all of these nightclubs have been on the same bill together."
