
Man Slapped By Co-Passenger On Indigo Flight Goes Missing, Claims Family
The man who was slapped by a co-passenger after a mid-air panic attack on an IndiGo flight has gone missing, his family in Assam has claimed, after they identified him in a video of the disturbing incident that has since gone viral.
The man was identified by his family as Hussain Ahmed Majumdar, 32, from Cachar district of Assam. He was travelling from Mumbai to Silchar via Kolkata on Flight 6E-2387 on Thursday, when he suffered a panic attack. A panic attack involves sudden episodes of intense fear that trigger physical reactions.
Two cabin members were helping him exit the aircraft when a passenger on an aisle seat slapped him, showed a video recorded by another passenger. The cabin members urged him not to get violent, while another passenger protested the violence. The assaulter was detained upon landing in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, Hussain's failure to reach Silchar worried his family. They told reporters on Friday evening that he has neither arrived nor contacted them over the phone and that his phone is switched off.
The man, who works at a hotel in Mumbai, had flown home on the same route multiple times in the past, said his family.
Initially, some family members had gone to Silchar airport on Friday morning to receive him, not aware of the assault episode. But he did not turn up there. Later, they identified him from the viral assault video and tried to contact him, but his mobile was switched off, said his father, Abdul Mannan Majumdar.
Neither IndiGo nor airport authorities could provide any information about his whereabouts, the family said, adding that they have also informed the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials posted at the airport.
A missing complaint has also been filed at the local Udharbond Police Station.
IndiGo Airlines, confirming the action taken over the assault incident, said the unruly passenger was detained by the CISF at Kolkata airport, and legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
"We are aware of an incident involving a physical altercation on board one of our flights. Our crew acted in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The individual involved was identified as unruly and handed over to security authorities upon arrival. All appropriate regulatory agencies have been duly informed, in line with protocol," IndiGo stated through a social media post.
The statement did not give out details about the man who was slapped.

The other two mayday calls were from IndiGo and Air India Express, according to the agency report. A Mayday call is a globally recognised signal of distress, mostly used in aviation or maritime communications. The call sign is used in a life-threatening situation, like a potential aircraft crash. In aviation, a pilot repeats the Mayday call three times in a row to inform the air traffic controller (ATC) of the nearest airbase or airport in serious need of help. According to the agency report, the Union Minister of State of Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, also stated that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau's initial report on the Air India crash of 12 June 2025, which was published based on factual information, does not contain any conclusion about the incident and that the investigations are still underway. "Every aspect is being looked into for determining the probable cause(s)/contributory factor(s) leading to the accident," said Mohol, responding to a query on whether the government will investigate the crash from a sabotage angle. Since the year 2022, there has been a 'total of 36 accidents (involving 2 scheduled aircraft, 2 non-scheduled aircraft, 19 trainee aircraft, 2 private aircraft and 11 helicopters)' have been reported, according to the agency report citing the Minister of State on Tuesday.

"I arrived at 4.30 pm, and there was a 16-hour transit halt for my next flight to Raipur. I picked up my luggage, filled in my details on the immigration form, and handed it over to the official at the immigration counter. At 6.22 pm, when the student was waiting at the airport, the immigration official called her and asked her to come to the car park. "He kept insisting that he would show me the city and that I could leave my bags in his office. He said he would take me to dinner. When I refused, he kept calling and suggested we could go to a room where I could rest," the complainant said. Distressed, the student alerted a friend who advised her to approach the airport police. She then lodged a written complaint during the early hours of Monday with the RGI airport police. Based on her complaint, a case was registered against the suspect under section 78(1)(i) (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). New Delhi: A total of six aircraft engine shutdown incidents and three Mayday call incidents have been reported this year, according to the civil aviation ministry. IndiGo and SpiceJet each experienced two engine shutdown incidents, while Air India and Alliance Air had one incident each, as per data shared by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol with the Rajya Sabha. Three Mayday call incidents have occurred, including one involving the Air India aircraft (London Gatwick-bound flight AI 171) that crashed into a building soon after take-off from Ahmedabad on June 12. IndiGo and Air India Express each reported one Mayday call incident. A Mayday call is a widely used distress signal, primarily used in aviation and maritime emergencies. A pilot repeats Mayday thrice to inform the air traffic controller on the ground that the aircraft is in a life-threatening situation and needs urgent help. "During 2025, from January to July (till date), a total of 6 incidents of engine shutdown and a total of 3 incidents of Mayday calls have been reported," Mohol said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. In a separate written reply, the minister mentioned that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau's (AAIB) preliminary report, published based on available factual information on July 12, does not contain any conclusion about the Air India plane crash and that the probe is still ongoing. To a question on whether the government will investigate the crash from a sabotage angle, the Minister said, "Every aspect is being looked into for determining the probable causes or contributory factors leading to the accident". On July 30, 2025, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) flagged 51 safety lapses at Air India during its annual audit. These included outdated training manuals, incomplete pilot training, unqualified simulators, and irregularities in low-visibility operation approvals. Of these lapses, seven were classified as critical Level I breaches, which the airline was instructed to address by July 30. The remaining 44 non-compliances must be rectified by August 23. The DGCA's action followed recent enforcement measures, including the grounding of an Air India aircraft found to have an overdue inspection of its emergency slide — a crucial safety feature.
