Wild blockbuster trade proposal sends Pirates Paul Skenes to Tigers
Led by Tarik Skubal, their starting rotation has been solid this season. Skubal won the Cy Young award last season and is following it up with more dominance.

The Tigers will be an interesting team to watch at the trade deadline, as they'll likely be buyers this summer. They'll have the flexibility to make some big trades.
David Schoenfield of ESPN proposed the idea of Detroit actually acquiring Paul Skenes from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
"A playoff rotation with Skenes and Tarik Skubal? Thank you very much. Reminder: The Tigers haven't won the World Series since 1984," Schoenfield wrote.
"It will take one of the best farm systems in the sport to acquire Skenes, and Detroit is incredibly well positioned to make this kind of deal."

This trade proposal has Detroit sending Max Clark, Kevin McGonigle, Jackson Jobe, Colt Keith and Sawyer Gipson-Long to Pittsburgh. Skenes would certainly cost a major haul.
But the Tigers do have the prospect capital to get a deal done and land yet another ace. Having both Skenes and Skubal in the same rotation could give them an even better chance to win a World Series title this coming October.
It would further cement them as the best team in the Junior Circuit and give them a chance to dethrone the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Detroit would also still have a very strong farm system and flexibility to make other trades that bolstered their roster in other areas.
It will be interesting to see how Detroit navigates the deadline.

Eflin hasn't had the best season so far for the Orioles as he's posted a 5.95 ERA in 12 starts. His strikeout numbers are down from the previous two seasons as he's only striking out 6.1 batters every nine innings. He's someone who could bounce back for the Yankees, and his situation makes him the type of player they could take a chance on at the end of the month. "Getting another postseason starter will be imperative for general manager Brian Cashman after losing Clarke Schmidt for the year to Tommy John surgery," wrote Kelly. "Eflin is a rental, so the Yankees could acquire him from the division-rival Orioles without having to trade a top-100 prospect. That would leave them wiggle room to address other areas on the roster, such as third base and the back of the bullpen." Grabbing a starter at the deadline without giving up a top-100 prospect is the perfect situation. Eflin's numbers this year will lower his value, so Baltimore won't get as much back as it would have if his ERA was much lower. If he's still on the injured list at the deadline but making progress, the Yankees could try to grab him for even less. Overall, this is a low-risk, high-reward type of move the Yankees should look into making even within their own division. AFC executive: New York Giants' Andrew Thomas was 'trending into the elite' before injury
There's no denying what the presence of left tackle Andrew Thomas means for the New York Giants. Not only does his availability have a massive impact on the offensive line, but it also means a great deal to the entire roster. The Giants got a view of both sides of that coin during the 2024 season. During the annual positional rankings from ESPN, which include a poll of executives around the league, Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas came in at No. 10 overall, down from his pre-2024 ranking of No. 8. Despite the lower ranking, one AFC executive saw signs of Thomas becoming elite before a Lisfranc injury ended his season after just six games. It's hard to call Thomas an upside play entering Year 6, but some evaluators see a premier tackle who could be one of the best if he puts together a complete performance in 2025. A knee issue limited Thomas to six games last season. He still stopped the run at a high level (79.9 run block win rate) when he was out there. "He was trending into the elite before the injury," a veteran AFC personnel evaluator said. "They were almost writing him off (in New York) early on but he's blossomed." Thomas' performance mirrored Darrisaw's, with an 89.0 pass block win rate on 234 opportunities. Though ESPN stated above that it was a knee injury, the team announced last season at the time that Thomas underwent surgery for a Lisfranc injury. Thomas has given the Giants flashes of being an elite left tackle in the NFL, but they haven't been able to enjoy his presence for an entire season. The former No. 4 overall pick appeared in 16 games during his rookie campaign in 2020 and last played a full season in 2022. Over the last two seasons, Thomas has appeared in a total of 16 games. In 2024, Thomas allowed four sacks and 16 total pressures on 261 pass-blocking snaps, per Pro Football Focus. Both Thomas and the Giants need the Georgia product to put together a fully healthy season. If he succeeds in that, New York's offense should have a much more positive outlook.
