Diontae Johnson supports ex-Steelers teammate, predicts Kenny Pickett to start for Browns
On an episode of the Sports and Suits podcast, Johnson subtly explained that Pickett has been getting the Browns' starting QB reps:
"I think [the Browns] are gonna roll with Kenny [Pickett] right now," Johnson said. "I've been seeing Kenny, right now, with the ones — and then Joe [Flacco] will come in. I think they're probably gonna roll with [Pickett], just like to see — coming off the season he was with Philly and having a Super Bowl."
Johnson then addressed concerns over Pickett's hand size, claiming that the former Steelers QB "can spin it" even with gloves on.
The Pickett-to-Johnson connection in Pittsburgh lasted just two years — as the Steelers traded Kenny "Two Gloves" to the Eagles, and Johnson to the Panthers in March of 2024.
The two former Steelers teammates will look to play a major role in Cleveland's offense in 2025 — and they'll both get their first opportunity at a revenge game when the Browns head to Pittsburgh in Week 6 this upcoming season.

New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has some extremely high goals for Caleb Williams this season, which would put the second-year quarterback in an elite group if he can pull it off. Johnson made it clear on Tuesday, one day before the Bears officially open training camp, that he wants Willaims to complete 70% of his passes this season. Williams echoed that sentiment later, and added that he wants to throw for 4,000 yards, too. 'We certainly have goals that we strive for. It's not a secret,' Johnson said . 'I would love for him this season to complete 70% of his balls, so you would like to think that over the course of practice we're completing 70% or more, or that's hard to just magically arise in a game. 'It's a lofty goal, but it's one we're going to strive for.' The Bears went just 5-12 under his watch, missed the playoffs for a fourth straight season and ended up firing head coach Matt Eberflus. That led to the Bears hiring Johnson, who was previously the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator. Advertisement Williams completed just 62.5% of his passes last season, too, so that 70% mark that Johnson set would be a significant increase. In fact, only four true starting quarterbacks who played the entire campaign last season completed 70% of their passes or better. Lions quarterback Jared Goff led the way with 72.4%. It would take a significant jump for Williams to pull that off, though it would undoubtedly both throw himself into the MVP conversation and mean that the Bears are among the best in the NFC if he can get it done. With Johnson now leading the way, and a very solid group around him, the goals in place for Williams aren't unobtainable by any means. He's very likely to make a significant improvement after his rookie season, too. Advertisement Whether he can hit those admittedly lofty goals from Johnson, though, remains to be seen.

Panthers cut ex-Broncos LB for heartbreaking reason
The Carolina Panthers made a surprise move on Tuesday, releasing veteran linebacker Josey Jewell. The reason for his release is a reminder of the harsh realities of the potential side effects of playing in the NFL. Jewell, 30, suffered a concussion on Dec. 22, 2024, and he is still experiencing concussion symptoms seven months later, according to Anthony Rizzuti of Panthers Wire. The Panthers' website wrote that Jewell "wanted to prioritize his health and recovery and be considerate of his teammates," indicating that the linebacker was part of the decision to step away from the team. If he recovers, Jewell might re-sign with the Panthers down the road. Jewell originally entered the league as a fourth-round draft pick out of Iowa with the Denver Broncos in 2018. After spending the first six years of his career in Denver, Jewell signed with Carolina in 2024. Broncos Country wishes him the best in his recovery from the concussion symptoms. Elsewhere on the ex-Bronco front, former third-round pick McTelvin Agim signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, and K.J. Former Falcons OLB Lorenzo Carter retiring from NFL
Former Falcons outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter has officially retired from football, as was announced on Tuesday afternoon. The news comes as something of a surprise after Carter signed with the Tennessee Titans just four months ago. It's an early end for Carter, who is just 29 years old. He has now been placed on the team's reserve/retired list. Carter spent a total of three seasons in Atlanta, his most recent stop, appearing in 47 games and tallying 125 combined tackles (76 solo), 14 TFL, 24 QB hits, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one interception returned for a touchdown. Carter began his NFL career when the New York Giants selected him in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, allowing him to see four seasons of his NFL career on their turf. There, he racked up 153 combined tackles (94 solo), 21 TFL, 35 QB hits, 14.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and a single interception. The ex-Falcon finishes out his career with 96 career appearances with 62 starts.
