Celebrity Traitors hit with a unique problem as cast ignore show's rules

Metro11-07-2025
The upcoming series of Celebrity Traitors has hit a huge problem ahead of hitting screens in autumn.
Claudia Winkleman's hit BBC game show recently announced the cast for its first showbiz edition, with players including Alan Carr, Clare Balding, Jonathan Ross, Tom Daley, and Sir Stephen Fry.
The celeb spin-off was confirmed last August before cameras started rolling this April, with nine inevitably gripping, dramatic episodes to come, airing over three weeks.
However, it's believed its famous participants have been struggling to comply with the programme's rules.
Spilling the beans, actor and comedian Nick Mohammed, who is also taking part, claimed that one of his co-stars threw a hissy fit because bosses would not tell them the time, as is protocol for taking part in The Traitors and living in its universe for a short period.
'When we were in the castle, you'd be like, 'What's the time?' And they'd say, 'It's Traitors time.' That was their response.'
He continued on The Comedian's Comedian Podcast: 'Every single member of production had to answer with that until someone kicked off. And then someone said it is basically alright, and you can tell us the time.'
Teasing what viewers can expect when the series finally launches, he said: 'I do think it's going to be good telly. To see these celebrities together and interacting in this game will be really interesting.'
Mohammed, 44, is perhaps best known for playing Nathan Shelley in Ted Lasso, a role that earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
He has also starred in the CBBC sketch show Sorry, I've Got No Head, voiced Piglet in the Disney film Christopher Robin, and is the creator of Sky One comedy Intelligence.
Competing alongside him as either Faithfuls or Traitors in Celebrity Traitors will also be singer Cat Burns, Welsh pop star Charlotte Church, comedian Joe Wilkinson, Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway, musician Paloma Faith, actress Ruth Codd, and EastEnders' Tameka Empson.
Completing the lineup are social media personality Niko Omilana, Scottish actor Mark Bonnar, comedian Lucy Beaumont, former rugby player Joe Marler, historian David Olusoga, and Bridget Jones actress Celia Imrie.
Alas, not on the list is comic and Would I Lie To You? icon Bob Mortimer, whose name was heavily rumoured to feature. So, when it did not, it's safe to say the internet was gutted.
And while fans can surely look forward to plenty of unlikely alliances forming, one contestant has already made it clear that there was no such thing as 'friendships' on set.
Speaking to The Sun earlier in the year, Balding revealed: 'It is so intense, and you get completely obsessed with the game. Obviously, I knew quite a lot of them before I went in, but the friendships you had before go out the window!
'That, for me, is very challenging because I like to be friends with everyone. It's brutal, but I think I'm glad I did it. It will make good TV, and there are some really strong moments.'
Meanwhile, Sir Stephen admitted that taking part in Celebrity Traitors was 'agony'—but he had a whale of a time.
'It was a bit like a Chinese foot massage,' he began to The Show People Podcast.
'You know, it is absolutely agony, but you sort of want to do it again. It is emotionally violent, but you kind of love it.'
The broadcaster then remained tight-lipped when quizzed for details on his role: 'Obviously, I can't say a word about what is in this recently recorded celebrity version, I suppose. I am certainly not telling you if I am a Traitor or a Faithful. I am one or the other.' More Trending
Nevertheless, assuring fans of the hit format—which has drawn in millions of viewers from around the world—that the celeb version won't be any less dramatic than the civilian one, host Winkleman previously said: 'We're incredibly lucky these brilliant people have said yes.
'I'd love to say we'll take it easy on them and they'll just wander round the castle and eat toast for a couple of weeks, but that would be a lie.'
Episodes were filmed at Ardross Castle in Scotland, which has been used for filming both the UK and US Traitors since 2022.
Celebrity Traitors airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in autumn.

EastEnders' Natalie Cassidy 'bricking it' as she admits weakness ahead of new TV show

Former EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy, whose character Sonia Fowler left Walford in April, is among the contestants on the new series of Cooking with the Stars Former EastEnders cast member Natalie Cassidy has been "bricking it" over her latest TV project, which is scheduled to launch later this weekend. The actor has teased that she pushed herself out of her comfort zone for the experience. ‌ Natalie, 42, announced earlier that year that she would be leaving the BBC soap opera. Her character Sonia Fowler, who first appeared in 1993, then left Walford in scenes that aired back in April, with her seen embarking on a new life abroad with her two children and her sister Bianca Jackson. ‌ Following her departure, it was revealed that Natalie will appear on the new series of ITV 's Cooking with the Stars and she's spoken about feeling nervous ahead of the launch. It comes after Channel 4 breaks silence after Gogglebox couple suddenly dumped from show. ‌ Natalie, who has been mentored by professional chef Tony Singh for the show, said that she "loves" cooking at home. The actor however spoke to WhatToWatch recently about how the experience differed from that. She recalled having used vegetable stock instead of vegetable oil while practising at home. Natalie continued by telling the outlet: "Usually I'm cooking with a glass of wine with the radio on, leisurely doing a bit of washing and talking to the kids, but this is a completely different ball game." ‌ Natalie said: "You have a recipe and you don't have any time to think about it at all." Teasing over one of Sonia's job on EastEnders, she said: "This is not the cafe on Albert Square, I need to produce high-end grub and I'm bricking it!" She also shared that she signed up for the show to expand her culinary abilities, revealing that her "staples" include roast dinners and spaghetti. Natalie said they are "good basics" but wanted to learn more about herbs, spices and different cultures through the competition show. The former soap star said that she wanted to "impress" her two children in the kitchen. Natalie teased that she also hoped to learn where the chefs "go to eat," saying that she wants to get a list of restaurants and "hidden gems". ‌ Whilst speaking to the outlet, Natalie revealed her strengths and weaknesses when it comes to the competition element of Cooking with the Stars. The show sees celebrities go head-to-head in the kitchen before being judged. Natalie said that being "organised" is among her strengths. She shared her dislike for "lateness," adding that she's "very aware of time" which she hoped would prove beneficial on the show when it comes to timings over her cooking. ‌ She then admitted that her weakness is "the chopping side of things". Natalie told the outlet that loved ones will often offer to take over chopping items if next to her in the kitchen because the actor is an "Awkward Annie".

Fans insisted she looked uncomfortable as she moved it away – but Katya later insisted there was no problem. In joke They then sparked further fury, when she was seen refusing to high-five the Opera singer. The duo were quick to issue a video apology and insisted it was all an innocent "inside joke". Crude joke Wynne came under fire for allegedly telling a "crude" joke to one of the show's make-up artists. Insiders claim the opera star made a joke that the folds of his double chin "looked like a vagina". A source said: 'It was a bit of a vulgar dad joke.' Wynne was recorded suggesting a three-way sex session with presenter Janette Manrara, using the term "spit roast". His remark came at a photocall to launch the Strictly live tour, which pro Janette, 41, is hosting. He reportedly pulled a suggestive face at actor Jamie Borthwick as Janette moved between them — which is when Evans allegedly made the joke. Wynne has apologised saying: "My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise."
