Pakistan invites Sikh pilgrims to attend two events in Lahore this month
'Death anniversaries of Guru Arjan Dev Ji (Jor Mela) and Maharaja Ranjit Singh will be observed on June 16 and 29, respectively, in Lahore,' Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) spokesperson Ghulam Mohayuddin said.
'For both events, Sikh pilgrims from around the world, including India, are invited,' he added.
The EPTB is a statutory board that manages religious properties and shrines of Hindus and Sikhs who had migrated to India following the partition.
According to the schedule the ETPB issued, the main religious ceremony, including the Bhog Akhand Path Sahib ritual, will be held on June 16 at Gurdwara Dera Sahib, Lahore.
The main ceremony at the samadhi of Maharaja Ranjit Singh will be held on June 29. Last year, over 800 and 450 Sikhs had come to Pakistan to attend the two events, respectively. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7.
Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian side responded strongly to the Pakistani actions. The on-ground hostilities ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.

New Delhi will launch a 20 billion Indian rupees ($234 million) programme for three years that will cover manufacture of drones, components, software, counter drone systems, and services, two government and one industry source, who did not want to be named, told Reuters. Details of the programme have not been previously reported and its planned expenditure is higher than the modest 1.2 billion rupees production-linked incentive scheme New Delhi launched in 2021 to promote drone start-ups, which have struggled to raise capital and invest in research. India's civil aviation ministry, which is leading the incentives programme, and defence ministry did not immediately respond to e-mails seeking comment. Reuters previously reported that India plans to invest heavily in local industry and could spend as much as $470 million on unmanned aerial vehicles over the next 12 to 24 months, in what government and military officers said would be a staggered approach. In the past, India has mainly imported military drones from its third-largest arms supplier, Israel, but in recent years its nascent drone industry has scaled up its cost-effective offerings, including for the military, although reliance on China continues for certain components such as motors, sensors and imaging systems. Through the incentives, India is aiming to have at least 40% of key drone components made in the country by the end of fiscal year 2028 (April-March), the two government sources said. "During (the India-Pakistan) conflict there was quite a lot of use of drones, loitering munitions and kamikaze drones on both sides," Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said last week.

‘Can't be perverse on learning Marathi': Fadnavis reacts to MNS workers slapping trader
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday condemned violence in the name of language saying strict action will be taken against such hooligans. Fadnavis said that nobody can be forced to learn Marathi. 'Pride of Marathi in Maharashtra is utmost important. But we will not tolerate hooliganism and violence in the name of language. Police have filed an FIR in the case, action has been taken and even in future of anyone tries to take law in their hands, they will face action. We are proud of Marathi, but no other Indian language will be insulted,' said Fadnavis. He was speaking with the media at the legislative building, referring to the incident in which Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers thrashed a trader from Mira Road. Fadnavis said that traders should not be targeted for not knowing that language, as there will be Marathi businessman outside Maharashtra. 'We can urge them (businessmen or individuals) to learn Marathi but cannot be perverse about it. It won't be proper. We live in India. We cannot be so conservative,' said Fadnavis. The Maharashtra Chief Minister also defended Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for his chant of 'Jai Gujarat' at a programme of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Pune. 'It was a programme of Gujarati people in Pune. When we go to such programmes, we speak based on the people. Let's not be conservative by thinking his (Shinde's) love for Maharashtra has decreased just because he said 'Jai Gujarat'. We are Indians. We are proud of Maharashtra but can't hate neighbouring states. We, Marathis, are universal in our approach. It is wrong to be conservative,' said Fadnavis. The CM said that 51 per cent of Marathi population of Maharashtra voted for the Mahayuti government and no-one should claim monopoly on Marathi population.
