Kelantan DOE issues 13 compounds after 183 factory inspections
JELI: The Kelantan Department of Environment (DOE) has carried out 183 enforcement visits to factories statewide this year, resulting in 13 compounds issued for environmental violations.
Director Wan Aminordin Wan Kamarudin said enforcement extended to mobile pollution sources, including motor vehicles, with 16 operations conducted and 18 investigation papers opened.
The department also received 128 pollution-related complaints, leading to nine compounds issued against offenders. Wan Aminordin shared these details after officiating the closing ceremony of the 4Xplore Teroka Alam: Legasi Di Bumi Kita programme, held in conjunction with the state-level World Environment Day 2025 celebration at Gunung Reng.
He emphasised intensified monitoring and enforcement on pollution sources, including projects under Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) requirements. In 2025, 78 field enforcement visits were conducted, with 15 follow-up actions taken against non-compliant projects.
Additionally, 23 EIA reports were processed to ensure approvals align with environmental conservation goals.
The 4Xplore programme aimed to boost public awareness on environmental protection and foster a deeper appreciation for nature among participants.

Factory fined RM105,000 for illegal pollutant discharge
SHAH ALAM: A plastic processing factory was fined RM105,000 by the Kuala Selangor Sessions Court for five charges of discharging pollutants without a licence. The Selangor Department of Environment (DOE) director Wandi Yadzid Yaakob said that the court made this decision after the manager of See Hau Global Sdn Bhd, as the accused, pleaded guilty after the charges were read during the proceedings that took place on Tuesday (June 24). He said the accused also faces a one-year prison sentence if he fails to pay the fine. Based on the facts of the case, an inspection conducted by Selangor DOE officers from the Sabak Bernam branch at a factory operating on Jalan Kalabakan, Sabak Bernam on Dec 27, 2023, found that the industrial effluent released into the public drains exceeded the permitted levels. 'For all five offences, the company has been charged under Section 25(3), Environmental Quality Act 1974, read together with Section 25(1) and Section 25(3) of the same act which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100,000.00, imprisonment for not more than five years, or both for each offence if convicted,' he said in a statement. Wandi Yadzid also reminded all parties, especially those managing industrial premises, to comply with the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and its regulations, and those who are stubborn will face legal action.

Multinational firm fined for industrial effluent breach in Kulim
KULIM: A multinational company operating in the Kulim Industrial Area was fined RM33,000 by the Sessions Court here today for failing to comply with industrial effluent discharge standards. Sessions Court Judge Mirza Mohamad imposed the fine after the company's director, who appeared in court as the representative of the accused, pleaded guilty to the charge. Kedah Department of Environment (DoE) director Sharifah Zakiah Syed Sahab said the offence was uncovered during an inspection on Dec 30 last year. She said checks showed that the company's effluent discharge had breached two parameters set under the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009. She added that the company was charged under Regulations 11(1)(b) and 12(b) of the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009, under the Environmental Quality Act 1974. The offence carries a maximum penalty of RM100,000, five years' imprisonment, or both. In pleading for leniency, the company's director informed the court that efforts were underway to upgrade the plant's effluent treatment facilities to prevent future violations. However, the DoE prosecuting officer urged the court to impose a sentence that reflected the seriousness of the offence and served as a deterrent to other industry players.
