A three-vehicle collision on Highway 402 sent four people to the hospital, with one person succumbing to injuries in the hospital.
The deceased 87-year-old man from Sarnia was a passenger in the van that was hit by an SUV crossing from the westbound lane into the eastbound lane. A transport truck was also hit by the SUV.
The collision, which happe
ned around 12:30 p.m., closed all eastbound lanes between Colonel Talbot Road and Wonderland Road South.
'Preliminary stages are indicating us that this SUV was traveling westbound in the 402, crossed over the center median into the eastbound lanes, colliding with the minivan, at which time that SUV then collided with a transport truck,' said Sgt. Ed Sanchuck of West Region OPP.
Three people in the van and the SUV driver were taken to the hospital. The driver of the transport truck was uninjured.
Eastbound traffic was turned around to allow drivers off the highway. Police continue to investigate, while vehicles are removed.
The highway reopened to vehicular traffic just before 10:00 p.m.

Ontario Provincial Police first reported the crash on social media at about 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, asking it had blocked all lanes between Windy Lake Provincial Park Road and the entrance to community. The Ministry of Transportation's 511 traveller service confirmed the full closure of the highway in the area at 2:02 p.m., urging drivers to avoid the area. Police advised motorists to use Old Cartier Road, also known as Old Highway 544, as a detour where possible. OPP warned the closure could extend for some time. '(The) closure will last several hours,' police wrote. 'Expect traffic delays.' For the most up-to-date road conditions, check Ontario 511. Authorities have not released any details about injuries, the types of vehicles involved, the cause of the crash or if any charges are pending as a result. OPP said they will provide additional updates later. CTV News has reached out to authorities for more information on the crash but those messages have not yet been returned. The left lane south bound on Highway 11 at Line 6 North in Oro-Medonte has reopened after being closed for repairs. According to OPP, a guardrail needed repairs after a single vehicle collision early Saturday morning. The left lane reopened Saturday afternoon.

In an email to CTV News, Ontario Provincial Police said the crash happened between two small sedans and one SUV. One elderly woman, who's age was not provided and one man in his 30s were transported to hospital with minor injuries as a precaution. At around 4 p.m., bumper-to-bumper traffic could be seen on the highway just before the Highway 7 on-ramp. Police said traffic had become a stop-and-go domino effect. They have warned drivers to pay attention, keep their heads up and to keep an ample amount of space between their vehicle and the vehicle ahead of them. All lanes have been reopened.
