Charles bids farewell to President Macron during touching goodbye
The King and president talked during the handshake which became more poignant when Mr Macron held Charles' hand with both of his for the last few moments.
Earlier the president and his wife had spent a private period laying flowers at the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II who was laid to rest at the King George VI Memorial Chapel within the castle's St George's Chapel.
At the Windsor Castle state banquet held in Mr Macron's honour on Tuesday night the French leader had paid tribute to the late Queen, saying: 'To you she was your Queen, to us she was the Queen.'
The last words spoken between the King and his guest was their re-branding of the famous entente cordiale to the 'entente amicale' spoken by Charles with Mr Macron replying 'thank you, so much'.
They had been joined by Queen Camilla and Brigitte Macron who exchanged goodbye kisses with the men and the foursome posed for a picture before they parted company.
The King and Mr Macron had earlier enjoyed a walk around the castle's gardens, with Charles showing his guest areas of work on nature restoration and biodiversity.
State visits usually feature an exchange of gifts and Charles presented the president with an oak sapling for the garden of the French residence in London during the tour, a present in response to an oak from Mr Macron gifted during the King's 2023 state visit to France for the British residence in Paris.
Charles is a keen watercolourist and he gave the president a set of 12 placemats of scenes from Scotland and France he had painted, and a 1931 edition of John Florio's translation of the works of French Renaissance philosopher Michel de Montaigne.
In return, Mr Macron gave the King a copy of the original piano and vocal score of Pelleas et Melisande by Debussy and a Sennelier watercolour set in an inscribed walnut case.
Other gifts included a trumpet, made by Couesnon, from the cavalry band of the French Republican Guard and a hamper of produce from the Elysee Palace, including honey from the palace beehives.
The two men appeared to be engrossed in the tour as Camilla and Mrs Macron were left waiting for their husbands to view items from the royal mews.
A charabanc carriage, gifted to Queen Victoria by King Louis-Philippe of France in 1844, was waiting at the end of the Long Walk and nearby was a 10-year-old dapple grey horse Fabuleu de Maucour, given by the president to the late Queen in 2022 to mark her Platinum Jubilee.
When the men arrived, kisses were exchanged but, with Camilla due to visit Wimbledon, and the royal couple attending a Buckingham Palace event, the Queen patted Charles, as she has done in the past, in an apparent bid to hurry him along and keep him on schedule.

Successful Powys farmers scoop rosettes at Royal Welsh Show
The Powys couple who have been hugely successful at the Royal Welsh Show have picked up another pile of rosettes. Wynne and Linda Morgan who run the Ty Isaf farm near Newtown, took four more titles adding to a long history of success at the show for their British Blue cattle. 'We have done really well,' said Linda. 'Our bull was the male champion, the cow was first in her class, and our young heifer, who is just over 12 months old, she was reserve female and reserve overall champion. 'We are very pleased it's been very, very good. ' This adds to the couple's history of success after they won overall champion in British blue in 2014 for Ty Isaf Iesha Et who is related to their currently very successful herd. Unfortunately, this year the effect of the bluetongue restrictions across the Welsh border has limited their usual show schedule. 'We have been exhibiting at the Royal Welsh since 1989,' said Linda. 'To us it is quite local so we like to support it. 'This year because of the bluetongue restrictions it has been all Welsh exhibitors here. There are a few exceptions but there are a lot less competitors this year. 'It's going to impact us because we can't go over the border now into Shropshire, we usually do the Minsterley show but we can't go now. This will be out only one this year which is a shame.' Pimm's restocks sell-out item after clearing shelves in 48 hours
Pimm's is bringing back its limited-edition glassware which sold out 48 hours after launch this summer. Designed in collaboration with tennis pro-turned-artist Gabriella Taylor, the collector's set includes a 1L carafe and two wine glasses, with Gabi's hand-painted illustrations. Meet Ben - South Wales contestant on BBC's new Destination X
Destination X will be hosted by Gavin & Stacey star Rob Brydon, and is described as a mix between The Traitors and Race Across the World. The new series will see contestants travel around Europe on a bus with blacked-out windows, trying to work out where in the world they are. At the end of each episode, the contestants will guess where they think they are, placing an X on a map. Whoever puts their X furthest away from the location is immediately thrown off the X-bus and eliminated from the competition. The last person standing will walk away with a cash prize of £10,000. Meet Ben - the South Wales contestant taking part in Destination X One of the 13 contestants taking part in series one of Destination X is 42-year-old Surf School Director, Ben, who hails from South Wales. Ben has "20 years' experience of doing some crazy activities" including the likes of surfing and cliff jumping. He is now looking to take part in Destination X to show his boys "that Dad's still got it". When asked why he thought he was selected by the BBC for the show, Ben said: "I have experience and am fairly capable in outdoor activities. "Being a surfer, you're used to dealing with lots of situations very quickly. A lot of my friends define me as affable. I get on with people quite well. "I've just spent a few weeks in a caravan with my family so can handle confined spaces." The 42-year-old has maintained a level of fitness, ready for the show, and mentally has been treating it "as if I was going to prison". Top 10 best British TV series Ben explained: "I'll be cut off from everybody and have got to deal with new people and environments that might be testing and challenging. "It'd be nicer to think I'm going to space as an astronaut." He said the thought of being away from his family, with no contact, for so long was making him anxious. "That's one of the things I might struggle with. The longest I've spent away from my kids in 10 years is five days, and in that time, I still spoke to them," Ben added. "But I'm looking forward to not having to check my phone and to having real conversations with people." His plan to win Destination X and take home the £100k is to "not think too hard about it". Ben explained: "Sometimes I will overthink things to a point that I come up with the wrong answer. "So I want to be myself, have fun with it and try to lead with my gut." If he wins, Ben said he would put the £100k towards helping his local community. He said: "My whole life I've put people first, above money. "But there is that conundrum that the communities I support are constantly looking for funding so it would help. "There's a number of accessible bits of equipment I'd like to design and build, and that money would give me freedom to be able to make that happen." Rob Brydon says "I'd be hopeless" on Destination X Rob Brydon also opened up about his time on Destination X, revealing why he wanted to be a part of the show and how he would have fared on the BBC series. The Gavin & Stacey star said: "I've never done a TV show on this scale before. I loved the idea of it, the combination of having to work out clues as to where you are and having to get on with each other. "It struck me as the best bits of The Traitors with the best bits of Race Across the World. "The other thing that attracted me was the scale of it and being a part of a show as ambitious as this, with as huge a crew and as huge a team. "I knew it would be a real challenge to see if I could steer that ship." Rob Brydon said he was surprised at how invested he became in the show.
