Someone in NC has a lottery ticket worth $416,000. Here's where it was sold
The N.C. Education Lottery says someone driving through Forsyth County bought a 100X the Cash ticket on Wednesday, April 9, and matched the numbers for a $415,970 jackpot.
'The winner purchased the lucky ticket at the Quality Mart on Yadkinville Highway in Pfafftown,' lottery officials said in a news release.
'At the time of the win, the Fast Play jackpot had just reached $215,970. Since it was a $20 ticket, 100% of the jackpot can be claimed plus $200,000.'
Winners have 180 days to claim prizes at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
Odds of winning the jackpot — plus the $200,000 cherry on top — are 1 in 320,000, the game reports.
The Quality Mart where the ticket was purchased is about a 10-mile drive northwest from Winston-Salem.
The 100X the Cash game is a drawing with a 'progressive' jackpot that grows until someone picks the correct numbers. Tickets range from $2 to $20 and the amount won depends on the ticket price.

Meanwhile, the Cash 5 ticket was sold at Maggie Valley Mart, a roughly 35-mile drive west from the mountain town of Asheville. To win a jackpot prize in that game, a player must match all five numbers picked in a drawing. The winning numbers from the July 3 drawing: 7-8-17-23-40. Lottery officials shared news of the wins July 4, when claims centers were closed for Independence Day. In North Carolina, jackpot winners have about six months to come forward, rules show.

Truck driver stays night in Maryland between drives — and wins big lottery prize
A truck driver played the lottery while staying overnight in Maryland between drives — and ended up winning a big prize, officials said. Clayton Webb, a long-haul trucker from North Carolina, makes deliveries in nine states and likes to play lottery games during his travels, Maryland Lottery officials said in a July 2 news release. So that's just what he did when he stayed the night after making a delivery in Silver Spring, officials said. He left his motel room, headed to a nearby Wawa convenience store and put $5 into a lottery vending machine, selecting the Fast Play game Double Win. He looked at the ticket — a $50,000 winner — then 'folded it and put it in (his) pocket,' he told officials. 'No need to play any more after that.' Webb's previous personal best lottery wins were $5,000 in his home state and $1,000 on a ticket from Tennessee, officials said. Naturally, the state that gave him his biggest win instantly became his favorite state lottery. 'Well that's a no brainer,' he told officials who asked which state has the best lottery. 'Maryland!' Webb claimed his prize on July 2 before he got back on the road for a 'solid' nine-hour drive back home — where he planned to replace the engine on his lawn mower, officials said. It had blown out recently, so the timing of his lottery win was lucky. Now he could afford to replace it, 'a bigger than usual expenditure, as he cuts grass on 52 acres,' officials said. 'When I'm not driving a truck, I'm on my tractor,' he said. He'll keep playing the lottery during his travels, officials said. 'I play a little bit,' he said. 'I don't overdo it.'

A lottery player coming off a recent big win had a 'gut feeling' and bought another ticket in North Carolina. He won $10 million. Christopher Sink of Winston-Salem hit the jackpot on a $50 scratch-off ticket in the $10 Million Spectacular game, the North Carolina Education Lottery announced June 27. 'I was really nervous at first,' he told lottery officials. 'It was kind of a crazy feeling.' The new multimillionaire recounted he was at a convenience store when he felt compelled to buy a lottery ticket. Then he beat the 1-in-3,255,582 odds to win one of five top prizes in the scratch-off game. 'It just happened to be my lucky day,' he told lottery officials. But it wasn't his only lucky day recently. Sink told the N.C. Education Lottery that he won $10,000 a week earlier on another ticket. 'It's kind of hard to fathom,' he said. 'I'm tickled to death about this.' He collected his winnings as a lump sum of $6 million and walked away with $4,305,014 after taxes, according to the N.C. Education Lottery. The construction business owner told lottery officials he plans to use his life-changing prize to buy equipment for work, invest and pay bills. One top prize of $10 million remains in the game, which debuted in December 2023. Winston-Salem in Forsyth County is about an 80-mile drive northeast from Charlotte.
