The mare Farida P secured a valuable victory by winning the UAE President's Cup for Purebred Arabian Horses at its sixth stop, held at Gardet Turf Racecourse in Stockholm.
The race coincided with Sweden's National Day celebrations and attracted a large crowd of over 50,000 spectators.
The UAE President's Cup Series is being held under the patronage and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. It supports a forward-looking vision for the development of Arabian horse racing, empowering owners and breeders worldwide, and promoting the breeding and ownership of Arabian horses to preserve their noble heritage.
With the conclusion of the Swedish leg—the sixth race on the calendar of the 32nd edition—the series continues to record remarkable success across European circuits.
The UAE President's Cup has cemented its leadership and global identity among the world's premier equestrian events in Europe and America, confirming its strong presence in shaping a new era for Arabian horse racing.
Farida P, descended from (Al Mourtajez x Hania Dea by Majd Al Arab), owned and trained by Pieter Dekkers and ridden by jockey Fabian Lefebvre, delivered a brilliant performance in the most valuable Arabian horse race in Scandinavian history. With a prize purse of €100,000, the Listed race was run over 1,500 metres on turf and was open to horses aged four and above. It featured nine of the top Arabian horses from Sweden and Europe.
Farida P surged from behind with a powerful burst in the final stretch to take the lead and claim the title in spectacular fashion. Wissam Al Khalediah (Ghadanfer Al Khalediah x Shatha Al Khalediah), trained by Janusz Kozlowski and ridden by Per-Anders Graberg, secured second place. Gindor de Bozouls (Al Mourtajez x Oudjidor de Bozouls by Dormane), owned by Omar Jorjar, trained by Elizabeth Bernard Jean-François, and ridden by Mickael Forest, finished third.
Farida P completed the race in 1:38.08 minutes, raising her win tally to 13 victories, and securing her second UAE President's Cup title after winning the Dutch leg last year.
The race was attended by Faisal Al Rahmani, Secretary General of the Higher Organizing Committee of the UAE President's Cup Series for Purebred Arabian Horses, Ahmed Al Mansouri, representative of the UAE Embassy in Sweden, Suhail Zbibi, Vice President of the Swedish Arabian Horse Association, and Saeed Al Muhairi, representative of the organizing committee.
In his statement, Musallam Al Amri, Member of the Higher Organizing Committee, said: 'We are proud of the impressive success that the UAE President's Cup continues to achieve across European tracks. The Swedish race has been a prime example of this success and reflects the Cup's significance among Arabian horse owners and breeders around the world. Hosting the race on Sweden's National Day, with such a large audience, demonstrates the committee's commitment to embodying the vision of Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed and his leadership in elevating Arabian horse racing through participation in major global events. These strong races and generous prizes continue to support breeders and owners worldwide.' He added: 'We commend the success of the Swedish round, the strong participation from top Arabian stables across Sweden and Europe, and the exceptional turnout. We are also proud of the widespread positive response the UAE President's Cup continues to receive across European racecourses.'

Sarr screamer gives Tottenham victory over Arsenal in Hong Kong

Pape Matar Sarr scored from the halfway line as Tottenham punished a shaky performance by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya to win the first north London derby staged outside the UK 1-0 on Thursday. Raya, who had already been caught in no-man's land twice as inswinging corners hit the post, was at fault again in the 45th minute when Sarr robbed Myles Lewis-Skelly just inside the Arsenal half. The Spurs midfielder looked up, saw Raya stranded way outside his penalty area and let fly to score in outrageous fashion from 50 yards out. 'It was fantastic, fantastic. Well taken,' said new Tottenham manager Thomas Frank of the goal. 'And all the credit to Papa. He's impressed me, I must admit he's been really good in the last four weeks.' Nominally a pre-season 'friendly', there was no love lost on the pitch between the bitter rivals. Tackles flew in and tempers frayed in a fiercely contested clash in front of a 49,975 sellout crowd under the roof in the air-conditioned Kai Tak Stadium. Sarr's screamer gave Frank the north London bragging rights, at least until the pair clash again in the Premier League on November 22 at the Emirates stadium. 'This was not a friendly,' said Frank. 'It felt like a competitive match. I think if you saw it, it was competitive and if you played it was very competitive.' Arsenal started the stronger but it was Tottenham who hit the woodwork three times in a frantic first half and deserved their lead at the break. Arsenal laid siege to the Tottenham goal at the start of the second half, but Frank had his defence well-drilled and the Gunners found it hard to break through. Gabriel Martinelli did manage to find an opening on 58 minutes but shot wastefully over from 14 yards. Arsenal brought on new signing Martin Zubimendi, who almost scored with his first touch when his shot was deflected over the bar. A huge cheer went up when Son Heung-min was introduced by Tottenham in the 75th minute. It was followed by an even bigger ovation when new striker Viktor Gyokeres also came off the bench for his Arsenal debut with 13 minutes to go. The Swedish striker, sporting the number 14 shirt made famous by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, was signed for $67 million six days ago and has trained only twice with his new teammates. He made some darting runs as Arsenal pressed for a late equaliser, but only managed two touches. Defender Cristhian Mosquera also came on late for his first appearance and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was pleased with what he saw from his two newest recruits. 'Really happy, obviously, to have them here,' Arteta told reporters. 'They're going to add a lot of energy and quality.' Tottenham now fly on to South Korea to face Newcastle United on Sunday while Arsenal head home after three Asian tour matches. 'Everything that I've seen in the last 10 days gives me a lot of encouragement,' added Arteta, who took positives from the performance despite losing. 'We are ahead of what I was expecting in many areas.' Meanwhile, Gyokeres said he wants to carve out his own place in the club's history and has played down comparisons with Thierry Henry after taking the number 14 jersey. The 27-year-old Sweden international, who bagged 54 goals in all competitions last season, completed his 63.5 million euros ($72.56 million) switch from Sporting on Saturday. Gyokeres took Arsenal's vacant number 14 shirt, which former captain Henry famously wore on the way to becoming the club's record scorer. 'Of course I know about the history,' Gyokeres told British media on Wednesday. 'To be honest, there weren't so many numbers available. There weren't too many to pick from. 'But of course, that one was available. So when I knew that, it was an easy choice to take it. 'It's not really my intention to be compared with what he's achieved in his career. Especially here. I just want to do my own thing and show my qualities. Of course he was an amazing player, but different from me.' Agencies

New Gunner Gyokeres could debut against Tottenham in Hong Kong

Viktor Gyokeres could make his Arsenal debut in the cauldron of a north London derby this week in front of 50,000 Hong Kong fans, manager Mikel Arteta said on Wednesday. The $67 million Swedish striker came through an open training session at Kai Tak Stadium, where Arsenal will take on Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday in the bitter rivals' first clash outside of the UK. Gyokeres joined up with Arsenal on their Asia tour only three days ago, after signing from Sporting Lisbon, but will get some time on the pitch if the club medical team think he is ready, said Arteta. He is playing fitness catch-up with his new teammates, though, who came through pre-season friendlies in Singapore last week against AC Milan and Newcastle. 'Yes, I understand he's only done today's session and yesterday, very little,' Arteta told reporters. 'We're going to assess tonight how he is, if the medical staff are happy as well with his condition to participate tomorrow night, it's a possibility. 'With the rest of the squad, everybody is OK.' The 27-year-old Gyokeres fired Sporting to the Portuguese championship last season with 39 goals and made global headlines when he netted a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City. The striker, who has chosen to wear the number 14 shirt made famous by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, scored a remarkable 97 goals in 102 matches for the Portuguese side. He has joined Arsenal on a five-year deal which could cost the north London club up to $89 million with performance-related add-ons. His arrival took Arsenal's close-season spending to around $267 million. They have also signed defender Cristhian Mosquera, midfielder Martin Zubimendi, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, midfielder Christian Norgaard and forward Noni Madueke. Arteta was clearly pleased at the business the club has carried out in the transfer window so far, as he seeks to be the first Arsenal manager to win the Premier League since Arsene Wenger in the 2003/04 season. 'I am extremely happy with the way that we have approached the window and how aggressive we've been,' said Arteta, who has finished runner-up in the Premier League for the past three seasons. Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard said he was excited to play with his fellow Scandinavian, Gyokeres, calling him 'a very complete' player. 'I think you've all seen what he's done in his career so far, especially the last season at Sporting, and the numbers speak for themselves,' Norwegian international Odegaard said. 'You know, he's physical, strong, fast, good finisher and intelligent as well. 'So I think he's a very complete striker,' said Odegaard. 'Really excited to have him with the team. And he's only trained a few times, but you can already see the quality and the energy and the willingness.' Meanwhile, New Tottenham manager Thomas Frank admitted that a pre-season clash against Arsenal in Hong Kong would be his first 'great challenge' since taking charge and warned it would be 'more than a friendly'. 'It's a great challenge,' the Dane told reporters at 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong, which is sold out for the match. 'Besides being our big rivals, and the first North London derby outside the UK, they are also, right now, one of the best teams, I must say unfortunately, in the world,' he said with a smile. 'Against Arsenal it's not only a friendly and we'll do everything we can to win.' Frank took over last month from Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked despite leading Tottenham to Europa League glory and ending a 17-year trophy drought. Tottenham have signed attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for $74 million, but have been thwarted in efforts to capture Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest. Frank said he and the club were 'constantly talking about transfers' but 'that is something I would like to keep private'. 'In general I am happy with the squad. We're aware of where we maybe want to strengthen in general,' he said. Agencies
