Bukit Aman internal security and public order department director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said that in the first raid, they arrested a man and two foreign women, aged from 28 to 30, and seized 1,972 boxes and 2,551 bottles of various types of cosmetic products and food supplements.
"A 40-year-old man, who is also the premises owner, then led police personnel to another residence, where we found 180 boxes and 895 bottles of various types of cosmetic products and food supplements without ministry approval, with the total value of the seizure estimated at RM185,515," he said in a statement on Sunday (July 20).
He said the operation also involved enforcement officers from the Health Ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), adding that the cases are being investigated under Regulations 18A and 7(1)(a) of the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984.
Meanwhile, Azmi said that from January to July 16, police carried out 167 raids and arrested 300 people for various offences, including smuggling undeclared goods, leakage of controlled and subsidised goods, sale of imitation weapons, wildlife smuggling and e-waste operations.
"The total value of the seizures during that period is estimated at RM541,033,501. We will intensify intelligence-gathering and operations to combat these activities for the safety and welfare of the public," he said. – Bernama

Women's group demands action after doctor's fourth sex offence arrest
GEORGE TOWN: The Women's Centre for Change (WCC) has voiced its outrage over the apparent inaction by authorities in the case of a Penang-based doctor, now arrested for the fourth time in relation to multiple alleged sexual offences and inappropriate behaviour towards female patients. WCC said justice must be served for the victims and urgent action was needed to prevent further violations. Despite being arrested on three separate occasions in February and March this year for incidents involving three different women, the doctor was apprehended again on Monday following fresh allegations of molesting a female patient. The latest incident reportedly occurred on June 29 at a private clinic in Bayan Baru, where the victim had sought treatment for abdominal pain. WCC said these disturbing and recurring allegations raised pressing concerns about the failure of medical institutions, enforcement agencies and prosecutorial bodies to take meaningful and effective action. "We demand urgent clarity as to why the suspect has not been charged in court, despite confirmation from police in March that investigation papers for the three previous cases had been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP). "We also demand to know why, despite multiple arrests, has the doctor been allowed to continue practising medicine, including working locum shifts at private clinics? "What steps, if any, have been taken by medical institutions and health authorities following internal investigations?" the women's group asked in a statement. The WCC condemned the failure of authorities to protect vulnerable women from further harm. "How many more women must be deceived, secretly recorded, molested, or worse, before action is taken? "This is a clear failure of the system to act in the interests of justice and protect public safety," it added. With public confidence in the authorities diminishing, the WCC called for immediate and decisive measures. "This includes suspension of the doctor's licence. We urge the Health Ministry, the Malaysian Medical Council and the Malaysian Medical Association to immediately suspend or revoke the doctor's licence to practise medicine, including barring him from locum duty, pending the outcome of criminal proceedings. "We also call on the police and the Attorney-General's Chambers to expedite their investigations and bring formal charges against the suspect without further delay, ensuring swift and transparent legal action across all four reported cases," it said.

Opposition MP seeks clarification over conflicting accounts of Kemumim raid
KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition Member of Parliament has urged the Health Ministry to clarify details surrounding the recent raid on a gathering in Kemumin, Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan last month. Datuk Ahmad Saad (PN–Pokok Sena) described the conflicting statements from the ministry and the police regarding the incident as puzzling. "I would like the ministry to respond regarding the recent arrests at what has been described as a gay party, as the statements issued about the event are contradictory, which is rather strange. "There appears to be a conflict between the Health Ministry and the police. In other words, who is telling the truth – or who is not? "Kelantan police have confirmed that there was no involvement from non-governmental organisations, health clinics, or the Health Ministry at the event. In fact, no representatives from any NGOs or ministry agencies were present," he said during the debate on the 2023 Annual Report and Financial Statements of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) in the Dewan Rakyat today. On July 17, it was reported that police had foiled a secret gathering involving more than 100 gay men in Pengkalan Chepa, believed to be on the verge of escalating into immoral activities. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the event was held at a rented bungalow in Kemumin in mid-June, following a tip-off from the public about a planned closed-door gathering of a gay group in Kota Baru. However, on July 22, the Kelantan Health Department issued a statement clarifying that the event was, in fact, an HIV awareness programme. The programme was organised by Sahabat, a non-governmental organisation operating under the guidance of the Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF). Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said on X that collaboration between the ministry, state health departments, and NGOs was vital in reaching high-risk populations, to raise awareness about prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment. However, on July 23, Yusoff reiterated in a statement that the police stood by their original assessment that the gathering was not a health-related event but a social gathering involving members of the gay community. He said investigations found no evidence that the invitations referred to any official collaboration or organisation by NGOs, health clinics, or the Health Ministry.
