'Squid Game' creator says VIPs in show resemble Elon Musk: ‘Everybody talks about him'

The modern drama Squid Game continues to mirror real-world dynamics as it wraps up its run with an engaging third season. Hwang Dong-hyuk , the creator of the series, recently called attention to the way that the show's wealthy VIP characters mirror contemporary power structures, using one notable individual in particular. 'Elon Musk is everywhere these days, right?" In a recent interview with Time, Hwang said, "Everybody talks about him." He is a showman in addition to being the leader of a massive tech company that virtually controls the world. Naturally, I thought, "Oh, some of the VIPs do kind of resemble Elon Musk " after finishing Season 3 . He continued. The VIPs in Squid Game are wealthy English-speaking spectators who like to watch violent life-or-death games take place while hiding behind elaborate masks. Although their presence has always been concerning, they assume an even more sinister role in the show's last chapter. Hwang clarified, 'They take their masks off and go into the game and kill others with their own hands.' He pointed out that their change from passive observers to active participants reflects a change in the way power is exercised in the real world. 'In the past, those that really controlled the system and maintained power, they were hidden behind the curtain, almost like this big unseen conspiracy. However, it's no longer the case, especially in America,' he stated. "We talk a lot about oligarchy these days, but these so-called big tech owners, they step up, telling everyone who they're backing with their money," he added. Hwang claims that influential people today don't hide their influence. 'The people who really control the power and the system, they no longer hide behind a curtain. They willingly take their masks off, almost as if to declare, 'We're the ones running everything. We're the ones in control',' he continued. The Squid Game universe might be growing in the meantime. Deadline has learned from a number of sources that Netflix is working with renowned director David Fincher on a new English-language spinoff. Speculation has been going on for months, but official confirmation is still pending. According to insiders, unless he takes on a feature film in the interim, this project might be David's main priority in 2025.
