Smriti Irani, Amar Upadhyay visit Ekta Kapoor amid ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' reboot rumours
Originally airing from 2000 to 2008, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi became a defining show of Indian television. Produced by Ekta and Shobha Kapoor under the Balaji Telefilms banner, the daily soap broke viewership records and shaped the formula for Hindi serials for nearly a decade. Now, over 15 years later, a new version is reportedly in development, with some familiar faces expected to return.
Smriti Irani, who joined the BJP in 2003, has held several key government positions, including Minister for Human Resource Development and Women and Child Development. Reports indicate that Smriti Irani is set to make her comeback to acting after a long hiatus, during which she established herself as a prominent political figure. With Z+ security in place, filming for her new project has reportedly begun, confirming her return to the screen.
Amar Upadhyay, who portrayed Mihir Virani, was also seen at the meeting with Kapoor. Industry insiders suggest that he too could reprise his character in the limited-series format of the reboot. The new season is expected to span approximately 150 episodes but is structured to potentially extend to a longer run that could possibly mirror the original's 2000-episode trajectory.
Though details remain under wraps, sources close to the production confirm that shooting is already underway. A promotional campaign featuring multiple cast members from the original series is reportedly in the pipeline. There are also rumours of cameo appearances by former cast members like Mouni Roy and Karishma Tanna.

Amar Upadhyay on Kyunki...craze: Mobbed at Taj Mahal, got marriage proposals
If you grew up in the early 2000s, you would know the craze behind Tulsi and Mihir from 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. Played by Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay, the couple and their story were watched in every household every night. As the show is set to return with a second season, Amar, in an exclusive conversation with India Today, spoke about how the show's popularity changed his life show made him one of the most loved actors when it was launched. While it started with him being recognised in his building and then the city, it was a trip to the Taj Mahal that made him truly witness the success of his show and understand the popularity he had Upadhyay shared that months after 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' went on air, he decided to visit the Taj Mahal with his family and newborn daughter. As luck would have it, the actor reached the historical monument on a Friday, when there was free entry, leading to a larger crowd. "There were thousands and lakhs of people that day. I realised I made a mistake by coming on that day. It was complete chaos, but we were trying to move in when suddenly someone recognised me and shouted, 'This guy is Mihir!'. His words spread like wildfire, and before I realised, people were jumping on me. My T-shirt got absolutely torn, and we had to rush back. My family was thrown on one side, and I was on the other. We never got to see the Taj," he remarked with a added that the police and security soon arrived, but before taking on the crowd, they pulled him up for being in a public place without caution. He said, "They upfront told me, 'Why the hell would you come here on a free day?' I tried to explain that I didn't have any idea, but they were angry that I casually just walked in. In half an hour, I was cordoned off back to Delhi."The actor further spoke about how his character's death on the show went on to become a national crisis. The above-mentioned incident that happened in Agra made him realise how popular the show and it's characters had shared that while he was staying at a friend's house, people in the colony would often come to meet him, addressing him as 'Mihir'. There would be people who would watch the episode and immediately come to meet him, and have long discussions. "It was unreal, and what happened at the Taj Mahal, that madness, it finally hit me how our show had become immensely popular."The actor recalled another amusing anecdote that he still cherishes. While the term 'national crush' is loosely used today, the actor was definitely worthy of the title then. He revealed how women would come home to meet him and would sneakily try to pitch their daughters' marriage Upadhyay shared, "A lot of women, especially from Delhi, would come with their daughters to meet me. I would happily chat with them, click pictures, or give autographs. There were many times when they would ask me about my personal life, and as soon as I told them I was married and had a daughter, they would abruptly leave. That's when my aunt explained that they were here for proposals, and wanted me to meet their daughters. I was shocked that this could happen, and also embarrassed. But it was all Mihir; that was how much he was loved. That was the power of primetime TV back then, Mihir wasn't just a character; he was family."Given the show's popularity even 25 years later, the makers have planned to soon come up with the second part. The reboot version of 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' will star Amar Upadhyay and Smriti Irani in the lead roles, with other cast members also coming back.- EndsMust Watch

Stop harassment of Bengal workers in your state, CS Pant writes to Odisha
Kolkata: Indicating a growing frustration with Bengali-speaking migrant workers being illegally detained in Odisha as Bangladeshis, Bengal chief secretary Manoj Pant on Thursday wrote to his Odisha counterpart, Manoj Ahuja, to put an end to this "continuing harassment faced by people from West Bengal" in the neighbouring state. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Samirul Islam, chairman of West Bengal Migrant Workers' Welfare Board and Trinamool's RS MP, threatened to move Calcutta High Court on the issue. "Thousands of people from Odisha live and work peacefully in Bengal. Not once has Bengal govt treated them with even a fraction of the hostility that Odisha is showing now," he said. Pant, in his letter, wrote: "We are receiving disturbing reports of such individuals being detained without due legal process in regions around Paradip and across coastal districts such as Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Balasore and Cuttack. What is even more concerning is that even when these persons produce valid identity documents — including Aadhaar cards, ration cards, voter IDs, electricity bills and PDS documents — their claims are being dismissed. In many instances, they are being asked to produce ancestral land records dating back several generations, an unreasonable and unjustifiable demand for migrant workers." Pant also mentioned how, "alarmingly, there have also been instances where, despite verification reports from competent authorities in West Bengal confirming the identity and citizenship of the individuals, there has been no positive action or relief". "I appeal to you to take a humanitarian view of the matter and ensure that these individuals, who are Indian citizens, are not subjected to arbitrary detention or harassment based on linguistic or regional identity," he wrote. "It is deeply distressing to learn that many of them are being targeted solely because they speak Bengali — their mother tongue — and are being unjustly labelled as Bangladeshi infiltrators. This sweeping generalisation is not only unfair and discriminatory, but also deeply hurtful to citizens who have every right to dignity and protection under the law," Pant added. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Islam, who has been vocal on the issue, said: "The Odisha authorities refused to accept any identity document like Aadhaar and EPIC, and demanded verification from Bengal govt. We promptly provided the required details — verified and furnished by none other than DMs and SPs. But even that failed to satisfy them. Next, they asked for the electoral roll where names of these individuals were listed. Once again, the Bengal administration complied and sent the relevant documents. " The MP said: "Our CM Mamata Banerjee believes in diversity and strives to maintain harmony in every sense. So, I sincerely urge the Odisha govt and BJP: do not play with fire. If you ignite the politics of hatred, you may end up being consumed by your own flames."
