Bob Vylan performance at Manchester festival cancelled amid Glastonbury row
The punk rap duo will no longer play the headline slot at Radar festival this weekend. The act is the subject of a police investigation for leading crowds in chants of 'death, death to the IDF', referring to the Israel Defense Forces.
A statement posted on the festival's Instagram account said: 'Bob Vylan will not be appearing at Radar festival this weekend.'
The headliner slot for Saturday now reads 'TBA' (to be announced) on the website of the festival, which takes place at Victoria Warehouse from Friday to Sunday.
In response, the group shared the festival's statement on Instagram with the caption: 'Silence is not an option. We will be fine, the people of Palestine are hurting. Manchester we will be back.'
The chant that sparked the furore was made by the band's frontman, Pascal Robinson-Foster, who goes by the alias Bobby Vylan, on stage at Glastonbury and streamed live on the BBC.
The broadcaster later said the chant was 'antisemitic'. It was called 'appalling hate speech' by the government and 'vile Jew-hatred' by the UK's chief rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis.
Bob Vylan, who formed in Ipswich in 2017, also had their US visas revoked in the aftermath of the performance.
In a statement on Instagram, Bob Vylan said: 'We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs or any other race or group of people. We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine … A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza.'
They said they were 'a distraction from the story', adding: 'We are being targeted for speaking up.'
By most estimates, since the war began the IDF has killed more than 50,000 Palestinians in Gaza – including hundreds of journalists and aid workers – with more than a third of the casualties thought to be children.
Many thousands more have been injured. However, it is impossible to independently gather casualty figures as Israel does not allow foreign journalists into Gaza.
The war began on 7 October 2023 when Hamas – a proscribed terror group in the UK – killed approximately 1,200 Israelis and took 251 others hostage.
Bob Vylan are still expected to perform at the Boardmasters surfing and music festival in Newquay, Cornwall, in August.

Just before viewing the mystery property, Paul and Michelle did something Ginny had never witnessed in her ten years on Escape to the Country. Clearly enamoured by the view and the garden space, they chose to explore the outdoors first before venturing inside. Ginny was caught off guard by a unique request during her decade-long tenure on Escape to the Country, confessing: "This is the very first time, in 10 years of working on Escape to the Country, that I've had someone wanting to explore the garden first." She noted the couple's affinity for the Welsh outdoors, saying: "It shows how much the outdoors here in Wales really appeals to these two. I hope the inside of the house matches up too." Michelle was visibly impressed with the property, stating: "Completely astonished by it and it's everything we are looking for. The house does need some work done to it but it's doable and lots of it we can do ourselves." However, despite their initial enthusiasm, the couple ultimately decided against making an offer, indicating they are still on the hunt for their perfect home. The BBC's latest drama, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, staring Jacob Elordi and Ciarán Hinds is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer The BBC's latest period drama, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, has become an instant hit with viewers who have been binge watching all five episodes in one sitting. Based on Richard Flanagan's Booker Prize-winning novel, the series spans 50 years and follows the life of Dorrigo Evans. From a passionate, forbidden romance with Amy Mulvaney to the harrowing experiences of a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp, and later life as a respected surgeon haunted by his past, the story is both captivating and gripping. As well as having a heart-wrenching storyline, the series boasts a stellar cast including Saltburn star Jacob Elordi, who portrays the younger Dorrigo and Ciarán Hinds, known for his role in Game of Thrones, taking on the role of older Dorrigo. An outstanding series. Not an easy watch, but well worth it."
