Telangana Guv participates in West Bengal state Foundation day celebrations held in Raj Bhavan
The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of West Bengal, with active participation from Bengali associations based in Hyderabad.
The celebration featured traditional classical and folk dance performances by Bengali artists, bringing vibrancy and grandeur to the occasion.
In his address on the occasion, the Governor paid homage to the illustrious legacy of West Bengal, lauding its immense contributions to the nation's cultural, intellectual, and spiritual landscape.
He underscored the strong historical and cultural ties between Bengal and Telangana, and emphasised the importance of such celebrations in promoting national unity through the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
Reflecting on Bengal's enduring impact on India's journey, the Governor said that the state has produced towering figures in literature, philosophy, social reform, and the freedom movement.
He recalled that the national song "Vande Mataram", which inspired millions during the freedom
struggle, and the national anthem "Jana Gana Mana"—composed by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore—both originated from Bengal. Quoting a famous remark, he said, 'What Bengal thinks today, the nation thinks tomorrow.'
Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Telangana, Justice Sujoy Paul, in his address, paid tribute to the legacy of Justice Ashutosh Mukherjee, an eminent jurist and former Vice Chancellor.
He also noted that the first Indian judge of the High Court was a Bengali, underlining Bengal's historic contributions to India's judicial and academic spheres.
Justice Ms Moushumi Bhattacharjee, Judge, High Court of Telangana; Sabyasachi Ghosh, Special Chief Secretary to Government; and M. Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary to the Governor, also spoke on the occasion.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from several Bengali dignitaries, Raj Bhavan officers and staff, and members of the Bengali community residing in Hyderabad, making it a memorable and inclusive celebration. UNI KNR SSP

Dalai Lama affirms the institution of Dalai Lama will continue
Dharamshala , July 2 (UNI ) Tibetan spiritual head the Dalai Lama today affirmed that the institution of Dalai Lama will continue and reiterated that the Gaden Phodrang Trust has the sole authority to recognize the future reincarnation; no one else has any such authority to interfere in the matter. The Dalai Lama in a statement made here today said, "On 24 September 2011, at a meeting of the heads of Tibetan spiritual traditions, I made a statement to fellow Tibetans in and outside Tibet, followers of Tibetan Buddhism, and those who have a connection with Tibet and Tibetans, regarding whether the institution of the Dalai Lama should continue. I stated, 'As far back as 1969, I made clear that concerned people should decide whether the Dalai Lama's reincarnations should continue in the future.' In his statement, he further said, " I also said, 'When I am about ninety I will consult the high Lamas of the Tibetan Buddhist traditions, the Tibetan public, and other concerned people who follow Tibetan Buddhism, to re-evaluate whether or not the institution of the Dalai Lama should continue'.' He said, "Although I have had no public discussions on this issue, over the last 14 years leaders of Tibet's spiritual traditions, members of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, participants in a Special General Body Meeting, members of the Central Tibetan Administration, NGOs, Buddhists from the Himalayan region, Mongolia, Buddhist republics of the Russian Federation and Buddhists in Asia including mainland China, have written to me with reasons, earnestly requesting that the institution of the Dalai Lama continue. "In particular, I have received messages through various channels from Tibetans in Tibet making the same appeal. In accordance with all these requests, I am affirming that the institution of the Dalai Lama will continue". He said, " The process by which a future Dalai Lama is to be recognized has been clearly established in the 24 September 2011 statement which states that responsibility for doing so will rest exclusively with members of the Gaden Phodrang Trust, the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They should consult the various heads of the Tibetan Buddhist traditions and the reliable oath-bound Dharma protectors who are linked inseparably to the lineage of the Dalai Lamas. They should accordingly carry out the procedures of search and recognition in accordance with past tradition. Hasina sentenced to 6 months jail by International Crimes Tribunal for contempt of court
Dhaka, July 2 (UNI) Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is living in exile in India, has been sentenced to six months in jail by the International Crimes Tribunal for contempt of court. A three-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, passed the order today after reviewing a purported leaked phone conversation involving Hasina that circulated on social media last year, Daily Star reported. In the audio clip, Hasina is allegedly heard telling former Gobindaganj upazila chairman Shakil Akanda Bulbul, "I have had 227 cases filed against me, so I have received a licence to kill 227 people." The tribunal considered the statement contemptuous and a direct attempt to undermine the court. Shakil Akanda Bulbul, a leader of the Awami League's banned student affiliate Chhatra League from Gaibandha's Gobindaganj, has been sentenced to two months in prison for his role in the conversation. According to tribunal sources, the sentence will take effect only once the convicts surrender before the court or are arrested by law-enforcers. Once enforced, the sentence will be classified as non-rigorous imprisonment. This marks the first time Hasina has been sentenced in any case since her ouster from office on August 5 last year, in the face of a so-called student-led protest, and her fleeing to New Delhi, India, where she has been staying since then under heavy security. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had conducted a forensic analysis and confirmed the authenticity of the audio. The charges were filed against Hasina and Shakil by the ICT's Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam on April 30. The tribunal accepted the charges that day and ordered the accused to respond by May 15. When they failed to do so, the tribunal issued a summons on May 25 for them to appear in court. Although the law does not require the appointment of a state-funded lawyer in such cases, the court appointed a legal representative for Hasina 'in the interest of justice'. For the full hearing of the case, the ICT appointed AY Mashiuzzaman as amicus curiae (a friend of the court). Following the hearing, the court on Wednesday found both Hasina and Shakil guilty and delivered its verdict. The ICT was originally established by the Awami League government in 2010 to try war crimes committed in 1971. After the fall of the Awami League government on Aug 5, 2024, the interim government initiated trials against Hasina and her associates under the same tribunal. So far, three arrest warrants have been issued by the tribunal against Hasina. Among them, one warrant is based on five charges of crimes against humanity for her role in suppressing the July Uprising. The interim government has amended the law to allow for the trial of the Awami League as a political party for its role in the July–August crackdown. US withdraws delivery of Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine in a strong upset to Kyiv's air defence
Washington/Kyiv, July 2 (UNI) The Pentagon has reportedly withdrawn the delivery of some of its arms and ammunition supplies to Ukraine, including the delivery of missile systems, posing a big threat to Kyiv's defences in face of a rapidly advancing Russia. The US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the suspension of delivering missiles and ammo to Kyiv, including dozens of Patriot interceptor missiles, more than 100 Hellfire missiles and dozens of Stinger missiles, reports NBC News. 'This decision was made to put America's interests first following a review of our nation's military support and assistance to other countries across the globe,' White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement, an apparent reference to the decision to suspend deliveries. 'The strength of the United States Armed Forces remains unquestioned—just ask Iran.' The Patriot – which is America's finest missile defence system (and surpassed only by the Russian S-400) – is essential for Ukraine's air defences, forming the backbone of its defence systems. The lack of interceptor missiles could deal a huge blow to Kyiv's ongoing war with an ever-advancing Moscow, which now controls a fifth of Ukraine's territory. 'At the same time, the department is rigorously examining and adapting its approach to achieving this objective while also preserving US forces' readiness for administration defence priorities,' said Elbridge Colby, the undersecretary for policy. An anonymous US official said that the delivery was halted due to its own stockpile running low, and that Washington will continue providing Ukraine with arms supplies. Simultaneously, the funding for the Slavic country's defence will be reduced owing to a policy change by President Donald Trump, who since taking office has repeatedly asked Moscow and Kyiv to resolve their differences, even threatening to withdraw from the peace process due to Washington's growing impatience.
